I agree, what is happening elsewhere in Europe can't be completely ignored, but our league is a different case to every other league.
The "best league in the world" might be marketing bollocks by Sky, but when it comes to money, the Premier League is certainly the most lucrative. Are the UK government going to allow another league such as La Liga, Serie A or Bundesliga to complete their seasons and overtake the Premier League in terms of global popularity? If the risks are low enough, the government are going to kill the goose that lays the gold egg.
As the below news story confirms, the Premier League is huge for the UK economy, I'm sure a few tests and PPE is worth it when the money generated by the Premier League can help fund the NHS long term.
