This was season 2 in L1 and we reduced wages from £10.3M down to £7.5M. So maybe managing the cost of 11/12 failure is more accurate.Fair enough but I'm sure as we all know that money is an aide in creating a good team, there are many more factors generally controlled by the manager which have the final say on promotion. Also I think it's misleading to say that United were managing the cost of relegation as buying players such as Beattie, Henderson and Evans for example would not come cheap either in fees or wages. And there was uproar on this board over the suggested wages of other players.
Bournemouth increased their wages from £4M to £11M over the same period. Howe would have had no chance without that staggering financial input.
Evans, Beattie and Henderson had all left by the way.
