The Premier League have a global audience, so given such a great like Maradonna has died, do you;

People are saying he's the best player in the world but IMHO he's not fit to place Pele's boots hence the option.

If I run another joke poll, I'll be sure to run it past you first.
A minute of silence for one of the greatest football players ever is fully warranted.

The fact he took drugs and was overweight has nothing to do with it.

If Brian Deane turned into a fat cunt in his old age would we not have a minute's silence for him when he dies?

Pele also has nothing to do with it so I don't understand the poll options.

Saw Pele at S6 in 1972. He didnt do much. Before the match he was in an argument with the Santos directors because he wanted appearance money.

Does a player have to be as good as Pele to get a minute's silence?

When was this decided?

Obviously not and apparently you don't have to have played in this country either..

It was a bit of 'fun' but feel free to set up your own poll minus Pele, if you're so cross about it.

Good point.

Pele doesn't like the best player in the world when he's on the shitter either, so I'll revise my opinion.

Clearly the fat little cheating Argie is the best player ever, as we've just had a minutes silence which proves it.

Amazes me that there are so many people referring to the fact he was a drug taker to justify their hatred of the bloke.
I bet their music collections are a right hoot.

But then I don't expect football to have a minutes silence for the musicians who take drugs either and/or shoot at other people.

I watched Maradona play football. I listen to music by musicians who have taken recreational drugs. But then I don't feel the need to have a minutes silence for any that have passed away.

Fuk it, can we have a minutes silence for Sean Connery next week. Perhaps Des O'Connor the week after. Diana Rigg the week after.

And personally I don't hate Maradona. Why would I? I just don't think he's worth English football giving a minutes silence. There are other people for more deserving of that in football.

Maradona is a midfielder and creator, Shearer isnt

An a cheat, junkie, alcoholic, Fidel Castro supporter, gunman, etc

Not denying his ability to play football tho...

Just that all things considered respecting him with a minutes silence is a bit too much

What’s the connection to the UK other than he said the goal he cheated was ‘symbolic revenge’ for the falklands?

Booing is bollocks and is akin to the actions of a petulant child, throwing a strop and not getting his / her own way.

Think what you like about the Argie. That is your prerogative.

Booing as a means of expression is for pond life 😀.

UTB
Of course...the classier form of expression is to insult someone on a football forum. :D

Personally I think a minutes silence for anyone not blades related is unnecessary. I seem to remember us having a silence for Princess Di amid all the people's Princess hysteria. For me Diego falls into the gazza or suarez bracket of incredible player, but absolute cunt. I would not mourn either of those. I think booing is over the top but I object to other people forcing their opinion on me. If I was at the match today I would probably just read the programme quietly rather than be forced to pay insincere homage to someone I couldn't stand.

Let's have a silence for Shilton being unable to jump more than 2 inches from the floor and getting beaten to the punch by a midget. I don't have an issue with the silence for what I feel is the best player ever.

Agree...that’s the weird thing that never gets mentioned.

Shilton was 6 foot tall with long arms
whilst Maradona was 5 foot 5 inch....with short arms.

So even when you accept that Maradona cheated...there’s still no way he should ever be able to reach higher than Shilton to punch the ball.

Regards Maradona...I’ve never seen a player dominate a World Cup tournement as much as DM in Mexico 86.
He was the football equivalent to Mike Tyson...even top class defenders seemed to be scared and intimidated by his ability,
Messi or Ronaldo have never reached those heights....they regular produce big moments but they aren’t feared in the same way when DM was in his prime.

Hear what you are saying about Shilton and he should definately have done better. The problem wasn't so much the height which he had to deal with (hence Mr Cheat won the ball in the air), the problem was Shilton was slower than a snail in coming off his six yard box line and dealing with the cross in the air, hence his arm for the attempted punch was more horizontal than vertical. His reactions were starting to go at that point in his career and he was slowing down. This was horribly shown up at the penalty shoot out defeat to Germany in 1990 when he was slower than a sleepy sloth. If Germany was still taking penalties he still wouldn't have saved one in that shoot out.

As for Maradona. Wonderful footballer up there with the best. Maybe even THE best of all time. But he did come across to most as being a full scale dickhead of a bloke.
