Never seen a ref blow or pull a card as fast in a game ever. My understanding is if a player puts both arms out in a pushing manner in the back of an opponent its a foul? City centre backs did this plenty of times.

Annoys me how every time Bernardo Silva hit the floor City got a free kick, yet when both Baldock and Souza took harder challenges before going down we got nothing. And that handball for the penalty looked proper harsh.

Fair enough. It's confused me. I see a lot of soft penalties now.

All the refs will have family, kids and young relatives. These kids will probably support Man City or Liverpool, Chelsea etc.
These refs will ring the clubs - can my lad be a matchday mascot, get a ground tour, use of training facilities/gyms etc etc
Not unusual for refs to get gifts in retirement from managers and clubs.
They get well looked after.

How are referees held accountable? Players can't say anything on the pitch, managers can't say anything in the media. They should be ranked for each match by the FA and this published - then you will see how deep the bias runs

It's a definite penalty given the absurd way this is written and interpreted. That's one of the least controversial handballs of late. But it's just making the game worse. "made their body unnaturally bigger" is a fucking nonsense statement.

Seeing it time and time again for years now, most referees are scared to say or do anything against the bigger superstar players (like most of City's team) so they just let them get away with so much in every game.

Var should be the 2nd referee it has multiple ‘eyes’ and should be used in conjunction with refs not just when they call upon it for the full entirety of the match.

because it was a penalty and egan knew it but he was unlucky dont know where he was supposed to put his arms sliding in to make a tackle but we all know the big clubs in the premier league get all the crucial decisions in their favour you only have to go back to old trafford last monday to realise that

I’m of the opinion rather than knowing it was a penalty, Egan knew the referee would give it as such.

I’m not sure what the complaint is. Egan was sliding in to cut out the cross but a clever pull back was blocked by his trailing arm. Penalty all day for me.

Completely agree. It was a penalty by the current definition of the law, but the law is a joke. Let’s go back to penalising handball when the offending player is deliberately seeking to gain an advantage.
And as for linesmen keeping their flag down for offside until the phase of play is over - give it a rest. It’s only a matter of time before somebody gets clattered when it’s obvious to everybody that the move was offside.
Get back to enforcing the ‘established’ rules properly. Tweaking the rules in the way that’s been done in recent seasons simply enhances the focus on the referee and on VAR, both of which now seek centre stage when ideally they should be largely unnoticed. Pundits love it, armchair fans love it, but it does nothing to enhance the match day experience for the people in the grounds.

Can agree that the ref today was proper bobbar, we couldnt buy a foul, but the handball for the pen was a handball, egans hand was at the bar at the back of the kop when it got hit

the Egan incident in any normal people’s opinion shouldn’t be a pen, when you slide to the ground in a football match everyone’s arms goes into the exact same position. That being said they’re the rules and I wasn’t surprised when it was given, especially with Haaland ready to tap in. All the other smaller fouls though, pushes in back constantly, every time Grealish gets ball he had whistle in mouth, after the first half I wouldn’t have been surprised if he took his shirt off and revealed a Stephen Ireland replica when Haaland scored their first.
