Prem Matches. How will we fair / cope?

"Beauty" is one way of putting it. "Unfairness" is another.

Saying that, just a few clubs dominate in numerous other countries.

Was a touch sarcastic with 'beauty'.

It's thrown down our throats that it's the best league because it's the most competitive.

This of course is utter bullshit, 2 teams getting almost 100 points means it's the least competitive it's been since the rebrand.

I presume you are referring to Real and Barca regarding Spain. Think this is a tad harsh on Atleti who finished 2nd and have won it within the last 4 years.

Germany - Dortmund should have won it this season at a canter, Bayern not as good as they once were.

You're right though, most leagues are like that...hence why I can't understand why the Prem is branded the most competitive, when it really isn't.

The Premier League has had four different winners in the past eight seasons. Liverpool could quite easily win it next season for the first time and if you go further back then Arsenal have also won it several times.

Juventus have won the last 8 Serie A titles.

Bayern Munich have won the last 7 Bundesliga titles.

PSG have won 6 of the last 7 Ligue 1 titles.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have won 14 of the last 15 La Liga titles.

Not sure about that now. Nobody can touch Liverpool or Man City without a full rebuild.

It's not all that long since Bradford and Barnsley were in it. Well I say not long it's 20 odd years but it's not that long if you're older. Bradford stayed up first season as well. And let's not forget that a team as small as Wigan had 8 years up there recently and Bournemouth could well emulate that

I doubt anyone will make the top six apart from the two Manc clubs, the two North London clubs, Liverpool and Chelsea. None of the other English leagues are like this. You must watch your team enter a competition that you aren't going to win, where finishing 8th would be a good result.

The relegation battle will be more interesting. Outside the top six I think anyone could go down (perhaps Everton and Wolves excepted). All it takes is a few injuries, or a bad start and a managerial sacking.

Wolves my outside prediction for top 6 next season, although European football could put paid to that à la Burnley shitting the bed after coming 7th.

Think Man U and Arsenal are both in for tumultuous seasons and will be run close if not beaten by the likes of Wolves, Everton and Leicester depending on signings.

Actually, this has been one of the best threads I read in ages.

Personally, I'm going to enjoy next season, come what may.

My initial thoughts on putting this post up was a worry in the shower about the away game at Wolves in the 17/18 season. They ripped us to shreds in the penalty area with quick passes and superb positional play. This team with additions came 7th last season. Also in the 18/19 season where Harvey Barnes out paced Bash over 8 yards many can do this in the Prem.

Now we have rightly celebrated and given it the big one for going up, the reality of playing teams that could rip us to shreds has dawned.

We will take some big beatings next season but I'm not bothered as long as we continue to improve and build. Hopefully pick up a few wins on the way, enough to stay in the division but if not, have strengthened even more.

To look at how we will cope I think we need to split the Prem into 3 parts -
A) The Top 6 all looking for Champions League / winning the Prem
B) The Mulch Out of the top 6 but clear of any relegation threat
C) Threat of relegation.

Obviously we are in "C" So we need to look at getting as many points as possible from B & C. Any points we get from A would have to be considered bonus points.
So Hopefully we can get 4 bonus points from catching a Hazard free Chelsea on an off day and maybe a draw against Man Utd who will be re-building.
The Mulch set are possible points games Everton, Wolves, Leicester, the cheats and possibly Newcastle depending on ownership. If we can get 7 points from these five we would need 27 points from the C teams, to match our last points tally in the prem which should be enough to stay up.
The C teams are therefore Watford, Palace, Bournmouth, Burnley, Southampton, Brighton, Aston Villa and Norwich. We would need the equivalent of 9 wins from 16 games including 8 away.
We have a chance at BDTBL with the crowd behind us and with a few additions, I just hope we have enough. Our tactics will catch some out but we will get caught on the counter a few times.
So my opinion is that it will be close but we have a good chance to stay up.

To look at how we will cope we need to know who will be playing for us. We don’t know that yet. If it’s the same squad as last season we’ll be bottom half but not relegated. With 5 or 6 quality additions it will be top half but not champions.
