Pre Season Friendlies

The problem we have is that we're gonna have to go into the season with one or two in the starting eleven that re not likely to be 100% match fit by the looks of it. Baldock, McGoldrick, McBurnie and Moose - seems to forever be not quite 100% though! Of the new lads coming in next week, hopefully they'll have played some football pre-season. To draw today was decent considering so many missing.

Today was further evidence that we lack depth and could be in trouble if we lose one or two key players to injury - and that we need to strengthen now, not in Jan.

Just an old thread from Harry Haslam back in 2018. Could well have got one or two things right about the lad. I thought the few touches he had, he looked a player older than he is. Only turned 16 last March I think:

"I love watching the academy sides on a weekend, I don't watch any specific side just have a walk about and so watch many players over the years and if someone catches my eye I like to watch their progress over the years. We have many youngsters that I can see making a breakthrough over the next 5 years or so.

But the next superstar from the Shirecliffe conveyor belt is Antwoine Hackford, a 14 year old striker. Plays for the U15s what a player this boy is and I am going to go on record and say this lad will make his first team appearance aged 16, become our youngest ever player and our youngest ever goal scorer. That is some statement but he is some player.

Any other avid academy watchers have their tips for future stars?

Moose misses sitter, Moose off injured again, concede in 90th minute. Some things never change. 🙄

Think we'll schedule another not for public consumption game? We've got 10 days til Wolves, and a fair few players that need a match.

We were all over shop last 10 minutes.

You look at our bench and we just couldn’t compete when they brought on fresh legs we couldn’t.

Overall decent run out. Shows how short we are on numbers.
Absolutely. Think we need in about 8 for a week on Monday.

Sloopy defending for Preston leveller.Jag struggling. I don,t think he will play much. Baldock played well.McBurney not too sure about him.mousey could be injury-prone.on the balance of play, The Blades should have won.good performance though.
I take it that "English Lit." wasn't your strongest subject at school.

Do you mean English Language - or are you chastising Kevin for not quoting Harper Lee in his assessment of the game?

"The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience... and Jags looked a liability in the second half”

Tis torture, and not mercy: trouble is here,
Where Jagielka covers; and every pass and loft
And little cross, every bleeding thing,
Flies straight past Jagielka and ends up on goal.

Such a stupid pre-season. They've hardly played together with the international window.

Are we looking to get a game in next week? It would make sense.

I think Wilder was using it to give the players on the fringe of the First Team a run out to see if they could step up and give them the opportunity to grab a place. Plus the existing first team a good run out who did pretty well on the whole. I think what is proved is we still need someone decent up front, Ben Osborn has been the stand out player, Norwood apart from his crosses is unfit couldnt be bothered to track back a few yards, Only place goals look to be coming is midfield (and maybe defence again), Jags might be cover for the regular 3 for the odd match and bench cover. New Goalie looks dodgy. Mousset has not turned up and is currently a disaster, McGoldrick is injured, MCBurnie is not full fit and has a dodgy foot injury. Not much else. We didnt lose.

I was hoping there would be another friendly next week with the proper team if they escape injury free.

Also whats with the pitch its bloody shocking ?? Brown patches bare bits everwhere looks like someones dog has been using it as a toilet. Only explanation I could think of is after this match its been all ripped up and re-turfed for the new season.

Oh well, there is always next season....if this one finishes or perhaps even starts....

Best news from that interview JOC should be available for selection for the Wolves game. Looking for RWB and LWB cover plus cover for the back three and two forwards.

Obviously means Bryan is on his way then.

I doubt there will be a single team in the league that feels fully prepared for this season. We've all played the same amount of friendlies. Some teams are missing about half a squad. We will be fine despite the usual histrionics on here...

I take it that "English Lit." wasn't your strongest subject at school.

I think you mean English Language

Heard something interesting yesterday.
Apparently, today's young generation believe that the use of a full stop in social media denotes aggression

Who is teaching them and what are they teaching them because it certainly ain't the English language?

Plus points:

  • Kean Bryan
  • Lunny back
  • Osborn and Norwood really good again

Not so good points:

  • Jags looks and plays like an old man
  • Moose limping off again
  • Not convinced at all by Foderingham
  • Absolutely desperate for some bodies through the door
I'm not one to criticise but we need to bin moose off, top teams have forwards that give their all for a full 90 mins, he just seems like a passenger, yes he might have a ability but that means nothing if you have no desire

Fitness levels are worrying for a few of the first eleven, but I suspect Wolves will be in a similar situation.

So;

Injured - JOC

International duty; Ramsdale, Egan, Stevens, Fleck, Berge, McGoldrick

All 7 nailed on starters v Wolves.

Why or why after everything that has gone on, did they schedule international games this week?!
Also important not to only look at internationals from a UK perspective. It's not bad timing for plenty of the country's seasons! Also some of the small nations genuinely need the money for their football associations etc.
