Is VD still a thing? Not heard that since being a teen and ‘t world were black and white.
Thought genZed had invented a whole new raft of std’s
Nah, they just have mullets and drink bubble tea…

Love the optimism and rumours during pre-season. Especially now we’ve gone a different direction than usual with “ambitious” owners…

If being honest it doesn't really jump out at you that squad saying wow it really doesn't just looks average filled with bit part players!.

29 players:
4 Goalkeepers
9 have played a very limited number of games / signed from Bulgarian leagues...

That leaves 16 outfield players which you would say are the first team squad. I didn't include the likes of Shackleton, One and RND as i don't think they really had enough games to even get to the fringes at times.

I know others have mentioned it on other threads.

What i don't understand is that we've literally had a week back in training and we have the first friendly in one week. I appreciate that it is very early, but lets face it the first team and squad depth is very limited right now, so the friendlies seem a little pointless and early.

I think it highlights as well that doing business earlier is also important to get the players in that you realistically want to start the season with. Not a criticism of Selles or even the new owners, this has been a trend with United for a few years now.

I've no issue with the friendlies we have, it's not about the opposition, its about the game time for the players we want starting the season and building up the intensity of games.

Lets see how it goes, but i hope we have some work going on in the background to add some quality to that squad

You’ll not be popular posting that, but I share the view we need some quality in in the next week or so. Principally because we have to embed a new playing and tactical system.

Interesting that RND appears to be included in the CB group.
The one word i'd use to describe RND's performances last season is "exposed". I stopped short of liability, but I'm not sure where i'd play him to be honest as he looked way out of his depth at times. Again, might be a fitness issue or rustiness, but he didnt look to have the pace or the positioning nouse at all.

Yeah, I get that, but you'd hope that Selles would've come in with his own list of targets to add and compliment those being provided for him from within the club. I understand Bindon was one of those, he does lack experience at this level and is a loanee (i think), so we will need a lot more first team strength to come in as well.

I don't know about popularity, but its a little worrying that, as you say, with an apparent new playing and tactical system that we're on countdown to get new players in for Aug 9th... still time, not alarming, but a lot of work to be done.

Certainly agree the squad requires expanding in most out field areas, but one of my concerns is where are the goals going to come from. Are we going to be reliant on Campbell and Hamer? Will Campbell be injury free and cope with the new "alleged" higher tempo game plan? Will Moore at 32 be able to contribute likewise? Will we see the "real" Tom Cannon? Will there be a surprise breakthrough from the "young unns" or AI group, not sure on that one? Will there be a new forwards coach following Jack Lester's departure, what was his contribution anyway as some of the "forwards" struggled to hit a "cows arse with a banjo" at times? Has someone in the new coaching team got responsibility for the forwards?

The problem with ‘getting people in early’ is that it also relies on the selling club and player wanting the move. Clearly the Bindon deal got done quickly because the player wasn’t in the first team plans and wanted to play for Selles again, we could have a dozen offers out there but if the player and/or club are hanging on for a better offer there’s not much more we can do.

I’d rather us add limited numbers that improve the first team rather than wilders more scattergun ‘sign as many as possible’ approach that leaves the squad deep in numbers but not in quality.

It's a better start point than this time last year.
Yes on the subject of campbell goals last season, I watched blades ramble last night the guys on there said the same it was a purple patch !as in he's never been prolific and the goals return from our forwards of 4 is about just over 20 goals I believe not very encouraging.

We got 92 points last season with several players not signed by the first match.
Let’s judge in early October.

Would agree. I would like too see a real statement signing, one that really gets the enthusiasm and excitement going that we could be on to a really good season, no idea who that would be mind. IMO it all feels flat and my enthusiasm for the new season is pretty low currently, not helped that I haven't seen us linked to anyone who looks like he makes us better. Admittedly the foreign names linked I know nothing about.

Few years back, looked the part, played for Wales, looked a player, nowhere near that level now sadly, bad hamstring injury& other injuries seem to have cost him, looks a shadow of the player now 😒

Yeah that’s a valid point. Think of it more of a commentary rather than a judgement. I agree, 10 games in we’ll have an idea how we’re looking.

Last preseason certainly had a lot of turmoil, we had a big clear out. There was a lot of uncertainty.

I think what strikes me is the lack of experience and readiness. Blaster has been out with his ACL and Tom Davis has also had long spells out. Peck will be doing a lot of heavy lifting early on…

As I said, let’s see

Coops reinforcing the stereotype that goalies are a tad off...

It's been mid to high 20s in Girona today, all the outfield players are just in vests and shorts. Yet here he is fully covered up like a lunatic

Pitch is probably hard and a mix of natural and plastic grass strands, probably some sand as well. Diving around as a keeper with long sleeves and leggings on will offer some protection
