Because it is ridiculous to say they are a top six Prem club sounds to me like he is getting his excuses in early, Oh and he is there to talk about Sheffield United not give them a confidence boost.
Yes, I'm sure Leeds will get a MASSIVE confidence boost from throw away comment at the pre-game press conference!

None of the above over the lifetime of the club. However, during their prime they were better than some of the above so historically (for a time) they were a top 6 club.
By that definition Leicester, Blackburn, Forest, Derby et al are historically top t clubs

Don't think a team that plays in white really needs colour TV to be honest ;)
Don’t they only play in white because they wanted to emulate Real Madrid? Don Revie maybe?

The Damned United has them absolutely pinned. Thoroughly unlikeable club and fanbase.

The pre match presser has been a managers obligation for a long time. It is an opportunity to be complimentary and respectful about the opposition and their manager. Common courtesy and good manners are a routine part of it, as it prevents a manager from falling foul of EFL regulations.
Such words cost little and are primarily for media consumption

Tbf he was directly asked about Leeds several times. Maybe he could have ignored the questions, or deflected the questions, but that would have seemed odd in a press conference set up to preview the next game.

He could have been less complimentary of course, but as others have said showing ‘respect’ to the oppo is what all managers do almost all the time, whoever they are playing.
Just hope he doesn’t show them the same level of respect as we did in October, Wilder actually changed the team to try and counter the Leeds threat…Remember being disappointed at the team selection that night. But with our defence considerably weaker, I would hope our midfield will have more of a presence, and take the game to them.
