Barely any changes on injuries then as Souza and Shackleton were back on grass anyway.

Gilchrist must've meant he's not match fit for 2 weeks.

Set back for Davies I presume then.

Do we actually need Clarke?

Also their whole part of the interview in audio-only format:

As usual it only included the part led by them, so in this case it doesn’t include the bit Danny Hall leads

Unfortunately I think the international break has come at the right time for Leeds, plus the fact they play Swansea at home who too put it lightly are not very good. Can only see a easy 3-0 win for Leeds. Pressure well and truly on us tomorrow night.
You always start your posts 'unfortunately' and then proceed to predict absolute fucking doom

Got handed the Derby job, finished miles behind Wilder and had the media blowing smoke up his ass despite loans like Tomori and Mason Mount and finished with fewer points than Gary Rowett.

Through nothing other than his playing links, got elevated to the Chelsea job and didn’t last that long after an underperforming period where again he had his media mates all making excuses for him.

Went to Everton and did ok enough in a typical Everton type season where they managed to find enough teams worse than them to stay up.

Ironically he’s actually gone in and improved Coventry and seems a good fit there. But it feels like the first time he’s done that at a club.

He does have the sort of profile where it wouldn’t take much to get in the England conversation in the future. Look at Southgate, well spoken, former player, mediocre club management record. That didn’t hold him back from getting the nod.

Good luck to him, seems a nice enough guy. But good luck to him after Friday!

Or maybe the break came at a good time for Swansea? Lost two on the spin, and facing Leeds immediately after losing to Burnley I can’t imagine would be conducive to a bounce back performance.

You can spin stuff whichever way you like. When the two played each other earlier in the season Leeds won 4-3 thanks to a 91st minute winner. Maybe Swansea feel they can avenge that? Don’t get me wrong, Leeds are definitely favourites, but I think some of the gloom from fans is often a bit unwarranted.

Yep Derby had a good squad, but so did Villa who they lost to in the PO final (and I seem to vaguely recall they were unlucky in doing so?).

Who knows what the future holds, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's boss here one day.

Hahaha I wonder what he could possibly be meaning.

In fairness, the NTT20 podcast were also fairly optimistic on Wednesday given their run-in and performance levels.

They've been pretty efficient at beating the bottom sides and I don't think they have anyone at the top end remaining.
It's an outside chance, but a chance nonetheless.

It does also assumes that at the same time there is a slump for a lot of teams above them, which I think is also unlikely. One or two is possible, 5-6 ?

To make the play offs they would have to outperform at least six of the seven teams above them, and at least one of Bristol City or WBA by seven points.

Over eight games, that's not going to happen

Southgate was conformably the best England manager in my lifetime, wouldn't back Lampard to get anywhere close.
It is an incredibly low bar. Southgate's success was bringing back the connection between the England team and its fans and creating an atmosphere were players want to play for the national team. However, he shat the bed almost every single time we came up against a decent side, particularly in tournaments. I can recall probably one genuinely good performance against decent oppositions in the competitions (Germany in 2021)

WC 2018 - beat Tunisia, Panama & Sweden, beat Colombia on penalties. Lost to Belgium (x2) and Croatia (AET)
Euro 2020 - beat Croatia, Czechia, Germany, Denmark (AET); drew with Scotland; lost on penalties to Italy
WC 2022 - beat Iran, Wales & Senegal; drew with USA; lost to France
Euro 2024 - beat Serbia, Slovakia & the Netherlands; beat Switzerland on penalties; drew with Denmark & Slovenia; lost to Spain

If an England manager comes in and we start dominating the best teams in big games and winning silverware, I'm happy to start talking Southgate down.

The bar is where it is. It's not our fault the bar has been so low, but my assessment of a manager is based on it. I agree with some of what you've said, but like with Wilder, many fans equate not dominating a match for 90 minutes with shitting the bed. I've watched France and Argentina win tournaments recently with similar performances.

I completely agree. It’s fine margins at international level. England were arguably the better side against France in that WC quarter-final. And Kane missed a last minute penalty to take it to ET. But instead the narrative is just shitting the bed again. While Southgate had his flaws I prefer to base my judgement on his results at those tournaments. And it’s easily better than any other manager’s in my lifetime. That’s just me. Anyway, we digress 😂.
