Wilder live presser link not yet active, though it'll probably be here

I will confirm once I see it on the club site, unless someone else does first 👍

As always, if you watch the SUFC ones on the club website, you'll need to log in. I'll upload the YouTube ones as and when the club posts them, but if you find something before me, please add it to the thread.

I will add some notes to the thread once I’ve seen it

Given they were not spotted on the ‘inside training’ vid on Wednesday, it’d be good to get updates on Shackleton, Seriki, T. Davies, Gilchrist's fitness, and also to know that Moore’s op went well and his return to action is on schedule. Hamer was also not seen in the vid, so is it simply that he had the session off, given he’s not playing, or has he also got a problem?

Are they all injured, or are they just restin
Go on Giddins, ask him the question
:tumbleweed:

A few said Hamer was on the video I thought?

They said there was a still picture of him on the club socials, but he was just checking the weather. Could be because they knew he wouldn’t feature in the vid

Yeah Hamer was there, albeit very briefly. They also tweeted out a photo of him in his full training get-up so don't think he was missing.

Just watched it again to see. He definitely is not in the training video

The tweet was this

They wear those clothes every time they go to the training ground. If you watch the Arblaster recovery video, he is wearing it too

If I had to guess, I’d say he’s just been given the session off

Hamer be on his winter holidays sponsored by Yelo ... cards 🙂

Cappy Ant idea why the player interviews seem to have tailed off? We got one with Moore and Souttar before the Sheffield derby but other than that I can’t remember the last one. Used to be a pre-match with a player every game.

probably getting injured in presser knowing our luck

Might be wrong, but think thats a Premier League obligation and only optional in the EFL

Contract extensions to July 2028 for Wilder, Knill and Prestridge:
  • "Delighted. Easy decision for my point of view, to commit to next 3 and a half years"
  • "Gives stability to the club and the players"
  • "The club's in a really good place. The ambition of the owners is there for all to see". He mentioned AI and data again, and "The statement from the owners was about establishing ourselves as a premier league football club. We have to show that ambition and we can't hide from it. It's where we want to be. Players, me, the supporters"
  • "Through my time supporting Sheffield United, there have been periods of not enough success. But we are going through a good period. Good crowds home and away, good academy. Top drawer, and top of the championship with a fair chance of getting into the premier league. Good players with assets in there as well. Sometimes there are bumps in the road, with nights like Friday night, but generally we are in a very good and healthy position."
  • "We have a group of players that are proper Sheffield United players that want to win"

Injuries & Absences:
  • "Tom Davies will be back for Portsmouth/Middlesbrough"
  • "Femi Seriki will be touch and go" (I assume he means for Derby)
  • "Shackleton will be a bit longer. He got a whack under his foot at Millwall and got some damage. He's going for another scan and will hopefully get the all clear to get training"
  • Kieffer's op went well and he "will be back for Middlesbrough game"
  • "Gus will be back after the weekend and all of a sudden [we look really good with all the new additions]"
  • My comment: Alfie was 'missing' from the ‘Inside Training’ vid on Wednesday. Nothing was asked on him, perhaps understandably. We just need to hope that he left out just as part of his planned training programme, not an injury

JTW:
  • "You hear a lot that managers need 2 or 3 windows to settle things down" and he's delighted to have done it quicker than that, given our performance through the first half of the season
  • "We've needed competition (for Right Back). Femi's been out. Shackleton's been out. Delighted with Harry [Clarke]. Good pedigree. Has won promotions, knows how to win"
  • "Choudhury was number one target all the way through", talking about what he's done and achieved, "playing a part in a club that for a long time were an established premier league team fighting for Europe". "He's fitted in seamlessly straight away"
  • "We are after a Centre Half, no doubt about it. We've made a bid for a player and it's going through that dance, as it always does, but we have alternative options"
  • "When Souttar and Blaster went out, we had two gone for the season. It wasn't like we could wait 6 or 8 weeks and get them back" so we were already struggling without the depth
  • "The level of intensity in training sessions has gone up straight away, and I knew it would"
  • Outgoings? "In an ideal world, Marsh, One, Hampson, Baptiste, ultimately they need senior football. They're highly regarded", mentioning again that their experience in the squad not doing them any harm, but they do need to go play more senior football
  • Questioned about this window being about restoring parity with Burnley, Leeds etc. "Yeah, we need players that are experienced [for the push to get promotion] and we need strength in depth"
  • "Too often we've let our best young players go. Sometimes we've not been able to turn down an offer, for us or for the player. But we want to be in the position where we build around the Blasters, Marshys, Onés, Pecks, and add to that with your Coopers and Burrows"
  • Whether we've had bids for those types of players, "We've had bids for a couple but we've rebuffed them"
  • Back on to the CB, "We're ready to do business". He said we will "walk away" if it's not right
  • He talked a bit about the level of competition for places and how happy he is with that, saying how important it has been to get the right mentality of players into the group. "If players can't handle competition, their careers will spiral"
  • Re our connections at Leicester, jokingly responding that "Big Soutts has put a good word in. I'm not sure Vardy will have said the same though"

Derby County:
  • Usual stuff. Likes Paul Warne, been a bit unlucky not to pick up more results, will be trying to get back on track, they'll be committed and on the front foot
  • "You've got to do a lot right to win games of Championship football. You saw that on Friday night [v Hull]"
  • What does he want to see as improvements v Derby? He reflected on "playing with a left back in the middle of the park, a few players that shouldn't start but had to start." "I don't want to leave my best players on the bench [Vini etc], but there's a reason [I did]. We accept that and own it"
  • "You'll see a more energetic, more positive performance than you did against Hull"

General:
  • BBD missed a training session last week because his wife gave birth to another child. (Congrats !!)
  • They had a laugh about James McAtee, "It put a bit of a smile on my face, I must say"

Interviewers: Andy Giddins, Danny Hall, James Shield

It's at the club's discretion pal, like jono_t2000 said. The one with Kieffer was a bluff to make people think he was going to play. Wilder is different from Hecky. Hecky liked players to be involved in interviews pre-game, and indeed would sometimes let McCall or Jack Lester take one occasionally.

Wilder is very much all about controlling the message

Cappy - I really like your summaries. Tells me everything I need to know in a few seconds without having to spend time watching. Thank you
You’re welcome and thanks

There are definitely nuances and of course his personality that don’t come through in a written summary, so they’re worth a watch if you have the time, especially when he’s in a good mood. Definitely one of us

YouTube Clip #1 from the full presser. Expect a 'Derby Preview' clip later today or perhaps in the morning

Joining Bristol City on loan to play centre half.

That would be a decent rumour 🤣

But if Chelsea decided they wanted him to play centre back and allowed United to reinforce in the meantime that would not surprise me either.

I do find it odd that we'd loan 2 RBs with a decent level of experience for Premier League teams. Given that the only reason they'd loan them would be for game time.

ISZA ⚔️ with a worldy premonition?

Bit of the Wilder presser in audio-only, but at 18m20 Giddins has a chat with Tom Cannon about his start here and looking ahead to Derby.

Lovely to here that Enda gave a good rap for us, to Tom

And this will be the last Wilder presser clip from the club YT channel

Thanks Cappy for your excellent summary. Also for including other sources of information. The Ramble clip showed its amateur side with the introduction of presser reviews.
We all have our favourites and it’s good to put them up in one place, in order to allow readers to make their own minds up.

You, the ramble and SUW all have a voice and if you add them all up, allowing for bias and opinion of others, and presenter delivery, it makes very interesting reading for supporters.

Wilder will always take the opportunity of a presser, in order to obfuscate and pass on misinformation. Some of it will be the truth, and some will be misleading. It’s par for the course!

Your own contribution is always valued, because you try hard to separate fact from fiction, while trying to keep your own bias hidden. Tough job, well done!
