Pre-Match Police Issues - Bit of an Update

It does not really matter how anyone dresses it up SYP and SWFC have still not learned anything from 1989. When the Police held the trams up outside Hillsborough why was there all the baton waving and posturing all that achieves is to wind people up. Watching the video you can see some of SYP can't wait for it to kick of so they can crack a few skulls. What started off as a crowd of boisterous football fans was turned into a angry mob, for what ?
SWFC .............. I haven't been to the sty for many a year, watching the video I could hardly believe my eyes they still have the antiquated manned half turnstiles anyone without a ticket could jump them into the ground. It is like going back in time having to find a man to operate a turnstile in 2017 beggars belief, queues of more than a dozen or so people are a thing of the past at Bramall lane put your ticket in the slot and you are in it really is that simple. What an absolute shithole that Leppings lane end is it needs closing down for good.
That is syp attitude at all big fixtures involving blades, has been for a number of years. They instigate trouble, they bully innocent bystanders who film anything, they treat all fans the same. A more friendly and engaging attitude by syp is needed. They get off on the trouble because they are thugs themselves, not all of them but most. They instigate stuff to give them something to do, why? Because they love it, there in lies the problem. Not fit for purpose, lying, bullying syp who are meant protect and serve. Disband them and merge with West Yorkshire. Too much has happened in that corrupted force over the years and they need to restore some public confidence.

Well in 5 years nothing has changed, I could not get a ticket this time, but 5 years ago the exact same thing happened, large group of Blades held up by the police before Hillsborough corner, held back for 20 minutes and then slowly walked to the ground and missed the first 20 minutes.
Reason given that the Police had to get the Wednesday fans in the ground before they would let us proceed

Thanks but you're barking up the wrong tree if you think that I don't already know that the SYP and Wednesday were to blame for the Hillsborough Disaster.

I was defending The Liverpool fans on here back when many others were keen to believe the police's version of events. Some still do.

That was another terrible example of the police and Wednesday and the Government being given license to treat all football fans like scum because of the criminal actions of a few scummy fans in the past.

We all get tarred with the same brush and suffer as a result. That's the only point I've being trying to make.

With all due respect Sothall , if you have read it and fully understood what was being said , why are you peddling exactly the same kind of bullshit that was bandied about back then ?

The problem was that large numbers of Wednesday fans were hanging around on Leppings Lane and if the police had marched those 500 Blades to the ground at that point then civil war would have broken out. It's unfortunate that the police had to hold them back but it would have been a disaster if they didn't. The root cause of this problem is Sheffield Wednesday FC, not the police. Because if they had give Sheffield United the upper and lower tiers on Leppings Lane end there would have been no large numbers of Wednesday fans hanging around in that area, the fans could have been easily segregated on the way to the ground, and it would have been quicker and safer for everyone.

Absolutely, it's easy to blame the police, because they are the ones we see. Having witnessed huge groups of fans at; rugby, motorsport and various entertainment events, nothing gets policed in the same way. But at the same time you don't see the same levels of disorder.

The reason Sunday required such strict policing isn't because there 30+ thousand going to the game and tens of thousands watching in pubs across the city. It's because of a few hundred idiots from both sides of the divide. The sooner these morons get banned from football the better. The minority of idiots at Middlesbrough, against Norwich and against the pigs, do not represent this great club. Ban the lot of them for life and stop them spoiling it for the rest of us.

For me the reason the Sheffield derby is so special is that my brother and some of my best mates are Wednesday fans. It's a sad state of affairs when friends and family can't go for a pre match beer together then go sit in opposite ends of the same ground. Sure I might shout abuse at them for 90 minute, but afterwards it should be back to boozer for more beer and piss taking.

I hope these hooligans realise that they aren't proper fans. That many of us hate everything they stand for, and are sick of them ruining games for us. Football is incredible, we all love our club, but if you can't be responsible for your own actions then stay away.

In other news:-

http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/the-s...-london-road-after-steel-city-derby-1-8771224

The Star's fault for reporting it?
Or the usual moronic behaviour from some of our brave "lads".

It doesn't look good by any stretch from London Road and naturally its made the news. There is another side to that particular story as has already been mentioned but large groups of men drinking and obviously buoyant is always going to lead to loud and potentially bad behaviour. Wednesday fans can say that we're scum and that they presumably are angels but the other way round there would be trouble in Hillsborough corner too. I've been through Hillsborough corner on derby day and its no different to London Road in terms of hostility. Not that that excuses bad behaviour either on either side.

Sorry mate. Forgot to add. Would you be able to add links to the coverage when it's published please because I do struggle with the web site sometimes. Cheers.
So one minute you're digging him out and saying he's doing himself no favours and the next you're asking him to do you a favour. :)

While parroting that you are totally - and I feel deliberately -,ignoring the point that there was no trouble from United fans on the trams or in the pub before that. The baying mob waiting for Blades at HC howeever appear to have been treated far better by SYP.

The special trams were put on at a certain time. We weren't allowed on earlier ones because we were escorted to West Street. Overloaded and stopped every five minutes. It was all planned to delay us. Durham officers were saying it was a shambles but they couldn't do anything about it. You can bang on as much as you want about hooliganism but had you been subjected to what we were, you'd be wetting the bed far more than you are now.

Which was exactly the situation this time but they came up with a load of bollocks about their actions.

Absolute joke that tram ride also keeping us penned in the Bessemer for a good while achieved plenty didnt it on both counts

In future all the lads in town drink closer to the sty or even go for a.subway sandwich .by now you should all know the score with syp.

With all due respect, I’m not sure what you’re banging on about.
Tell me what bullshit you think I’ve peddled and I might be able to answer your question.

No. People who weren't there are ignoring everything that happened and eye witness reports and saying it was all our own fault the Police acted how they did.

@ivorytower

The last tram into Hillsboro was ridiculous.

odd_cargo_in_extreme_transportation_situations_640_01.jpg

Next time we play at hillsborough, don't use the tram..they will use the same tactics and excuses, guaranteed

Ive used the tram once to the Sty a similar thing happened and I said never again
Ordered a taxi from Fannys about 11.45 up to a pub / club 10 mins walk from the Sty didnt have a problem

I'm fucking sick to death of the panning our fans get whenever there's any trouble. It's even worse when it's our own fans pointing the finger.

Just consider this for a moment. Let's say for example 2% of society are utter dickheads. It therefore follows that 2% of football fans are dickheads too. That is 2% of ours and every fucking club in the league. It's totally naive to think that weeding out those of our fans alone will solve football's and society's problems.

To the police, football fans are just an easy target and provide a useful diversion for the police to gain some credibility whilst they ignore the shenanigans from the usual dregs of society. If the police (and courts) did their job properly and sorted out the 2% dickhead population of society then they would be ridding the 2% football fan element at the same time. You're not going to solve anything tackling it from the other way round.

I'm not deliberately ignoring anything. I was already in the stadium when this was happening, and therefore can't comment on whether there were elements causing trouble on said trams. My point was a wider one at the fact that police have to be overly cautious based upon a history of violence from a significant minority on both sides.

I avoided going into town for a drink before and getting the tram because I thought it could be a pain. It was tedious enough when I went with a Gooner mate a couple of years ago the same route from the Bankers. Plus I can walk it from mine or as I did got my missus to drop me off late on when the traffic had died down.

BUT what happened was a joke. I've seen videos and heard first hand accounts, and there's no doubt this was choreographed from on high imho.

There's no satisfactory reason why it should take 1 - 1.5 hours from High St to Leppings Lane on the Bengal Express, with the disruption thrown in, and small scale April 89 reanactment as a finale.

Exactly. You're generalising on incidents you hadn't seen or been involved in.

Believe me, they weren't just "overly cautious" and don't deserve any oh but get outs.

Interesting Danny. Trouble is they only opened the extra turnstiles when we were already there and because the police on the ground told them too. So it took them twenty five minutes to react?

Looks like no one in authority wants to state the actual facts.
Looks like a bit of arselicking our fans too.

They would state the actual facts but they're worried they might be breaching copyright laws. (c) Bushblade 2017.

A version of the truth & shame the journo made no attempt to contact any of those on here (like me) to get a fans view from those who were actually there. Instead let's just take SYP & SWFC's word for it. Right on!

Well, the PCC & the 2 MP's have all been contacted - so far no reply from any of them apart from holding e-mails saying how busy they are.

Danny04 - I have no axe to grind with you & good there's at least an article on this. Also know it's not your article - but given I started this thread and am maybe the quoted fan who's nudging the PCC & MP's, if anyone from the paper wants to get an honest view from a 49 year old, overweight, football loving dad who was travelling with his son, you know where I am. And there are plenty of others on here like me (maybe not overweight) who I'm sure would happily do the same. Maybe viewing the no doubt extensive CCTV footage might also reveal the whole timeline of events.

Yep, PM me a number and I'll pass it on

Can you pose with your son doing the sad face photo? ;) Seriously, good luck with what you are doing, and you seem to be setting about it in the right way.
