Praising strikers who don't really score that much

McBurnie should have scored today. His all-round game was excellent but he had three good chances.

Our attacking play, as a whole, needs to be better. We aren't having enough shots, we aren't getting enough shots on target and we're not scoring enough goals. We're not creating the chances for our strikers. 1 or 2 a game, usually, and mostly not easy.

If the target is Europe then we need to be a lot better. Games like today need to be won.

We need to be better from set pieces as well, especially corners.

I see your point, but if you think they all are not good enough clinically then what can we do? Personally I believe we are playing the wrong two.

I think mcburnie played the role of dropping back and creating and linking everything up very well today and was my man of the match. That wasn't the problem we needed some one in front of him to score mcgoldrick wasn't that person and never was going to be was the wrong sub for me. Sharp had a bit of a off day and didn't make anything happen he got better for the ten min spell just before he come off. Moose should have been on for sharp today.
Fleck man of match by a country mile

All about opinions that pal but for me mcburnie just beat him to it pal. Fleck played well but mcburnie dropped deep when he needed to and played well in that little link up role I thought he played really well today and showed his strengths.

Getting abit annoying really.

But caveating, I do understand we're in a more than amazing position ....

However, Our forward line aren't doing the bits we need them to do. Too many fans blinkered about their hard work when even Wilder said that's the minimum we can expect. The amount of crosses we ping in is ridiculous for no return.

Got pelters on here over McGoldrick lack of goals with folk telling me we wouldn't be where we are without him...but I was proven correct, we can work without him but our forward line hasn't been great at all. They've been saved by our midfield and our fucking full backs.

They need to up their game beyond huff and puff.

After today, I realised how few chances we take from the number of crosses we put in. Almost became an economy of scale when we do score, putting in 48 crosses today with only 14 having a United player on the other end is poor IMO. Especially, when McBurnie is meant to be one of the best strikers in the air

Actually the bigger problem right now is Berge slows us down because he isn’t up to the pace of the game. Another problem is top strikers cost a lot more money. Another problem is the service into them isn’t good enough, often enough. This is why our forwards aren’t generally scoring the goals. I am not seeing them missing chance after chance.

Oli needs a fit moose alongside him or some tear arse speed that breaks lines, not Billy in my opinion. It’s all too pedestrian if we genuinely want to break into the top 4.

Can’t believe I am saying that because it’s utterly amazing we are here at all.

I personally think mcburnie’s timing is out, from crosses (which is how we seem to be set up at the minute) he seems to miss time his end product, his feet swing too early and he jumps for headers too early!
I don’t think he’s a bad player at all but I don’t think he’s great either.
I also agree with the Mouse comments, I don’t think it’s lack of pre season either, I think he’s just not very professional and agree he won’t be a regular starter for CW.

Mcburnie played well, sharp offered nothing. Can’t believe we didn’t bring Moussett on for sharp was crying out for it

But he is woeful in the box. Missed some great opportunities to get three points today.
i was starting to warm to him after the last couple of games, but went backwards today.

Who would you play?

EDIT: I'd play McBurnie on his own and ask him to stay up top and make a nuisance of himself and make his sole objective to get on the end of every cross swung in...if that's how we're going to play. Don't play so deep pal.

I thought Berge was decent today, Dont think hie teammates passed to him enough, he took some good positions around or in the box, but they didnt pass to him.

Was the one chance that he missed that was a big opportunity I wouldn't say the others was really they was all very scrappy passages on play where he did his best to finish them but got crowded out. Also though sharp was held back on the corner chance but no one shouted loud enough and not even checked by VAR so obviously I must have been looking for some thing that wasn't there.

Moussett was about to come on, I'm not sure why Wilder changed his mind.

Strikers should be sniffing goals Vs teammates offering crosses on a sixpence. Good strikers sniff out the goals and go looking and don't wait for the ball to hit them.

Interesting but if we did that today surely he wouldn't stand a chance agaisnt those Giants at the back? In other games though it could work. I think Mcburnie and moose have both proven they can score at this level but they have never been given a proper run together.

McBurnie's 6ft 2, plenty big enough. Get yourself up there and in the mix Oli, like you do when defending corners.

In what way were you proven correct?

What by scoring zero again?

I can’t believe anyone who watches us doesn’t think McGoldrick is in our best two strikers. All about opinions I suppose.

Watch how many times he gets the ball and how many, as a ratio, he does something good with it.

He never gives it away, wins corners and throws out of nothing, plays intelligent passes and generally makes us tick. We’re far, far better when he plays.

Yes correct, he doesn't give it away, just as much as he doesn't score.

Its the wrong thought process....the team result is much more important than who scores.

We didn’t score because against packed defences we lack quality regards composure and the final pass.
We had Duffy who could thread a pass through the eye of a needle and McGoldrick has that ability too.....we’ve missed his quality.

The issue with Mcgoldrick is it puts huge pressure on the other striker to deliver game after game. If the other striker has an off day we ain't scoring.

Disagree.......it’s the opposite effect as the other striker will have more chances than normal.

has anyone noticed how Sharp has hardly had a single chance in recent matches....in fact we don’t create many clear chances.
With McGoldrick....his strike partner is gauranteed to have more chances....McGoldrick also always has chances.

Sometimes wonder how we‘d do with last seasons partnership of Sharp and McGoldtick.
