Thought he did fine but he looked very slow.

Illustrated perfectly by Bash once he came on.

He's not exactly come in off the back of a regular run of performances though, so hopefully we can work our off the pitch magic.

Ben Osborn and Kean Bryan are terrible. I’m more annoyed about the Osborn signing, we’ve spent a good few million on him and he’s not strong enough to ever be in our XI

Morrison did well, I’ve previously given him pelters on here but he looked creative alongside Freeman. Basic is getting better and seems to have to Wilder appetite of work ethic. Robinson did ok, he’s really not a striker though, if we played wingers I think he’d be in our team week in week out.

I didn’t think Rodwell was particularly impressive, but I was at least encouraged that from the first minute he was making the sort of moves when releasing the ball that you’d hope someone trying to learn Basham’s position would be doing. In that respect he’s probably an upgrade on Jagielka ever starting on that side.

L Freeman and Besic did well
Jags did himself no harm
Ravel - Really can't see how he can expect to influence a EPL game based on what I've seen today and v Sunderland
I thought K Freeman, Clarke, Stearman and Bryan did Ok but they are all pretty much finished at the club
Verrips - nothing to do
Osborn probably stood still but doesn't seem to have the quality to get a 1st team shirt

Rodwell looked pretty good for a lad playing his first game in 8 months - time will tell

Been looking forward to seeing Osborn but I was left a bit underwhelmed by him

Luke Freeman made both of our goals.
The first he crossed it to Robinson for his goal.
On the second he hit the post the rebound fell right to Leon for his goal.
He set up our two goals what do people want from him.

And he looked interested

I thought for a bunch of guys that have hardly played any proper football, we did all right.

Thought K Freeman did well.
Rodwell did well until he didn't pick up his marker and their centre half missed a feee header.
Besic well, although looked flustered under pressure at times.
Morrison, has something. 2nd half played sone clever 1st time balls around the penalty area.
Worried if Stevens or JOC gets injured.
Luke Freeman did pretty good but don't see him getting in the first eleven

it looks as though the Ravel signing will be another one of those daft signing that wilder makes from time to time. Hope Rodwell isnt another
Sign enough players and some of them will prove daft signings.

Freeman faded badly in the last half an hour, his passes were ending up allover the shop! He'd been the best player up until then though. Besic had a very solid 90 mins but I'm not sure he had enough about him to play Norwood's role in our setup. Hard to tell in a game like that but no one else really made a case for themselves.

Lots of positive comments about Rodwell on here and on twitter. Thought he did fine but he looked very slow.

I thought he was steady but nothing spectacular and lacks pace as you say

Can I just go ahead and say Verrips is a fuking giant.
Didn't have much to do in his short appearance today but my god what a big man.

Don't think we can expect to much from players who've hardly had any minutes...Look how much better Bash looked when he came on,having played regular games compared to the rest.
I thought Besic,L Freeman did ok,K Freeman also ..Rodwell looked decent to say he's hardly kicked a ball for months...one great diagonal he pinged out to the left wing first half.
Anyway,we got the job done and in the next round.

Early days for Rodwell but I spent most of the time he was on the pitch wondering why we now have him but got rid of Cranie? Time will tell, I guess.
Bryan looked composed and calm but cannot defend to save his life. What scenario would see him ever get a shirt?? Get rid.
K Freeman. Talent and ability going forward, liability in defence, and just doesn't have Baldock's attitude and resilience. Get rid.
Besic, Freeman L, Morrison - good current back-up but creatively much limited by the two unimaginative, reactive-only, lazy performances up front from Clarke and Robinson who offered little movement or option for creativity in the final third.
Osbourne - good work rate and attitude with room for improvement. Good sub option.
Others - no surprises.

to answer OP none.
Agreed. K Freeman would be fine if Baldock is out for any reason. Luke Freeman could be useful from the bench but gave the ball away too much. Jagielka was solid and reliable and is great back up as is Stearman. I like both Clarke and Robinson as different options but Clarke will surely be leaving. Besic was probably best of the bunch today. Osborn, Morrison, Rodwell & Bryan didn't do enough to convince me today - but I appreciate that being short of game time is bound to have a negative effect.

Watching Morrison I felt he played extra disciplined, he kept it simple and held his position. Perhaps to prove a point to Wilder that he does have that aspect to his game as opposed to being an on/off day maverick.

I actually thought Kieron Freeman was much better than I expected him to be today and I'm much less worried about backup for Baldrick after that.
Not many positives for me though tonight.

I Would be extremely concerned if any of our defenders had looked bad against them.....

...I am extremely concerned about Kean Bryan

Besic, L Freeman, Jags all looked a class above. Besic the standout performer for me.

Rodwell was good and I would have liked to have seen him for longer.

K Freeman, Osborn, Clarke and Robinson did ok but don’t look PL quality. Osborn has a great work rate and energy.

Ravel and Bryan are poor. Both need to do much better to be anywhere near the first team. After the Sunderland game I was worried about the lack of cover for LCB and that remains. Bryan was a little better today, but I was so angry with him putting Verrips out of the game unnecessarily.

Verrips looked very composed with the ball at his feet and dealt with everything he had to. Real shame his game ended early.

Is that “Keanu Bryan” the minor celeb and model? :D
I recall saying he was a poser and a load of shite on here months ago. My opinion has only solidified since then. Get rid.

Bryan is not good enough and I am sure Wilder will try and move him on. Sadly he has another year on his contract so not sure who takes him. Stearman, K Freeman, Holmes, Clarke will all go as deals run out.

Bryan was woefully given the JC crossball to the attacking Wingback (Freeman) and failed massively several times. JC nails it everytime.

I don't think we should be harsh on the individual players today. The first team has developed a unique style where each player knows his role and has been able to form a real understanding with their teammates in terms of movement, passing patterns, supporting and covering. Today's B-side tried to emulate that, some trying to adapt to new roles. It was a decent training session, but with the flat atmosphere and them not having played competitively together, it's not easy to play flowing football. I think McGoldrick, a link man between midfield and attack, may have made a difference and helped a number of the others today, but obviously he was rested. The opposition defended deep and competed well in their own box.

Jags, Besic and Basham looked good. Most of the others were average, nobody had a nightmare in my opinion. You always hope there's one or two that will look superb and really ready to challenge for a first team shirt, but that didn't happen. It was good in terms of match fitness though. We will have to trust a few of them at some stage this season.

I 'strangely' enjoyed the day as it was encouraging that we at least tried to play exactly the same way the 1st Xl play. We didn't do that last year.
The most disappointing thing today was that neither outside centre half looked remotely capable of overlapping and neither wing back looked capable of both defending solidly and adding to a consistent attacking threat. More games may help though in this respect. I feel for Stearman as he's done nothing wrong (as Cranie last season) and still might be decent CH cover. Bryan will NEVER be good enough in any position.
