Possible Summer Targets

Few more names, some based on an increased budget and quite optimistic:

Adam Webster
- Ipswich CB mentioned previously, had good aerial stats last season, is only 23 and looks to have a year left on his contract. Highly rated player who would be a coup for us.

Connor Goldson - There are rumours Brighton could sell to Rangers for £2m. That would be great value. Tall, athletic CB, decent on the ball and can play RB.

Byron Webster
- Also been mentioned previously, looks like he's out of contract. Had a knee injury but as long as he recovers, he'd be a good free transfer. Could be the dominant CB we lack.

Liam Lindsay - Tall CB who was Barnsley's best player last season. Only 22. With them relegated maybe we could get him.

Matt Targett - Left back with good attacking and crossing ability. With Southampton and Fulham both in the PL next season he could go out on loan to the Championship again.

Armand Traore - Already mentioned, but one I've had in mind since Forest away. He looks like a natural LWB, athletic, combative and decent on the ball. Should be available. Would be an upgrade on Stevens.

Sam Byram - Would be an upgrade at RWB if we could get him on loan. Would probably mean selling Freeman or Baldock though.

Oliver Norwood
- With Brighton and Fulham both in the PL next season he should be available. He'd considerably improve our quality and depth in midfield.

Jacob Butterfield
- Solid midfielder with two good feet and a powerful shot. Derby and Wednesday haven't got the best out of him. Wilder has indicated that he rates him in the past. Would cover every central midfield area for us. One year left on his contract.

Bjorn Johnsen
- Already linked with us. Tall USA born CF playing for ADO Den Haag and Norway. Had a good season in the Eredivisie with 19 goals. Contracted until 2020 but might be affordable now.

I know I may get shot down but Freeman fits our style of play better and is a goal threat. Baldock is more a RB and his stock should be quite high now to make some money on him.

I can imagine Targett may go with Fulham again this season, and apart from that I don't see a standout player better than what we have in that list. Norwood would be a luxury considering Coutts should be back and we now have Evans.

Kyle Bartley would be a good option. He can play in the Centre or Right in a back 3 due to size and skill.

I think all those centre halves would probably be an upgrade on Stearman - more dominant.

Traore would definitely be an upgrade at LWB.

As for Butterfield, I remember Wilder specifically referring to him as a good player before the home game against Derby.

Would Abel Hernandez be attainable?

Sure I heard he was available for free which should enable us to stump up some of his wages in lieu of a transfer fee . Would seem to be a top player at this level and an upgrade on our options upfront.

Not Butterfield you would here the squeals of laughter coming from S6 in the Outer Hebrides.

I'd add Luke Garbutt for Lwb, oztumer for Am and Connor Wickham for the St.

Yep, he'd be a good fit for us. How much would he cost though? I can't see us wanting to spend much on the LWB position.

Alex Pearce is the stand out option from Derby from those with one year left.

Not sure how Garbutt's form is recently but yes he's another option. Wickham would be good if we could get him and if he was fit, but he's still coming back from a cruciate ligament injury he sustained in December 2016. Worrying for him.

And Lys Mousett from Bournemouth is another St option

He seems increasingly involved at Bournemouth, but if he was available he'd be a very good loan.

Another interesting Swiss striker...

Michael Frey
- Striker for FC Zurich. I see Alan Nixon has linked Middlesbrough with him, suggesting he'd cost around £2m. He looks decent. A good size at around 6 foot 2, strong and mobile, a decent striker of the ball and a decisive finisher. Seems to get his share of poachers goals too. 23 years old.

Wickham would make a cracking loan signing. Pretty sure the deal wold be cheap as to get him back on his feet.

Bit of a punt but Freddie Sears at Ipswich?

Always liked the look of his overall ability but feel he could offer more goals. I think the right manager and team would get that out of him. If cheap enough might be worth a look.

Is this the Connor Wickham that’s been out injured for nearly two years?? No thanks...too much of a risk for me...but GLTTL.

Unless CW has now warmed to bringing in overseas players, or he's allowed Rip Van Winkel to have a say, then I don't see it

I've a feeling that Sears is from the deep-rooted traveller community in Essex and won't move away from that region. Might be why he hasn't ever fulfilled his early promise.

Speaking of Reading, I quite like the look of Jon Dadi Bodvarsson. Tall, rangy and versatile forward with decent technical ability, capable of scoring more goals than he has. Only just turned 25 so still quite young. So if Reading are in selling mode he's one to consider.

Peterborough's chairman Darragh MacAnthony has put a tweet out saying they have today accepted a 7 figure sum for one of there players (will be Maddison or Marriot) and the player has been given permission to talk terms with the club etc. Possible that the club is us? Wouldn't mind either of those players.

Isn’t there chairman loaded? I think they are only selling Moore as he’s putting his foot down.

I noticed they signed Godden from Stevenage today as a replacement so more likely to be Marriot who is going

I'm sure there are other clubs with more clout than ourselves interested in him

Unlikely it's us I think
