Possible January Targets

Well, he’s not being selected at the moment so no sentiment there. Plenty for the guy who is though, on here, not from Tufty.

You're tying yourself in knots here with this. You appear to be trying to have it both ways. He is either playing Wright out of sentiment or he's playing him because he's the better option.

We might be adding this to the long list of things you've been wrong about. It's really not an issue, we're all wrong at times, but I have to admit a certain level of schadenfreude at the fact you go over the top ramming it down everyone's throats that you're right and they're all stupid.

Lifelong mates with the 'Great One' inc running Bradway FC together.

Yeah, sure CW will be over the moon with his lifelong mates splashing shite all over twitter about how we havent got a pot to piss in during the transfer window despite the owners saying he will get the money he needs / asks for to get us promoted.... some mates eh? All to look like a bit of a smart arse on twitter.... dont see it myself.

Of course it could all be a ruse to set/manage expectations - if nobody thinks Utd have any money to spend, fans' expectations will be lower, as may the prices of targets.

We won't spend any money in January
Not in relative terms to the other teams around us anyway

But that's ok with me

Hope it's ok with Lord wilder though

Just hope, above all else, we don't embarrass ourselves by going down this route to "generate funds"

Not like Alan Biggs to stir shit is it.

And they talk about £10m like it's a huge amount. It isn't, not for someone like Brooks.

And what would we do with £10m in January? What would we even do with £20m? It's a very hard question to answer when you take everything into consideration.

And it'd just be embarrassing too. We've just seen how outstanding Ryan Sessegnon is. It's not conceivable Fulham weren't getting big, big offers from top prem sides over the summer for him. And we've all seen as well how depressed Blackburn and mighty Southend have routinely swatted away our offers for their star players.

In saying all that, I don't reckon we will be selling Brooks (even to gratefully have him loaned back): I do think there's a very different attitude in place now.

Btw, as an aside, that interview with John Beresford was excellent, just about the best I've seen on Biggs's show.

Apparently Fulham rejected offers over £20m for Sessegnon in the summer. But the main one to look at in comparison to Brooks is Cairney. They apparently rejected £20m for him too. He's an excellent player but Brooks has very similar ability and is younger.

I don't expect us to sell Brooks in January either. Call me a complacent naive big fat stupid head but I'd actually be shocked if we did. Especially for £10m. We didn't get him on a 5 year deal to sell him for that amount.

Shopping in January is always like entering silly season, financially. But, for clubs looking to recruit and for players looking to move, we have to be a strong proposition. Bramall Lane with the buzz we have and the football we play will be desirable to many footballers. We just don't have the finances to spend with those that recklessly throw money at it (Wolves, Villa) - nor would Wilder spend stupidly if we did.

Reading the 'we have absolutely no right to be in this position ' quote its becoming clear that this transfer window is crucial if we want to keep Wilder long term. He's mentioned more than once we have one of the lowest budgets in the league and he obviously wants backing in January, especially with Coutts out.

If he's not given the funds he thinks he deserves despite us being on the verge of the promised land then there's a massive risk he moves on unless he manages to get us up on no money.

Can't understand this Wilder will be off!!.
He's already said he wants to acheave his career goals with us,he will be spending money in the window but by negotiating deals with the players it's quite obvious he's going to build round what he's got.
The wage structure in place is not going up in smoke which means we are not looking at players who will cost big money ( the structure would be bust if we did ) I too and most sensible blades agree with this policy Wilder is building that Doasnt mean we give it up this season, quite the opposite in fact will will go for it.we are not that far short let's see who comes in to support what we have.Wilder says we need more quality in certain areas.Going to be an interesting window and 2ND half to season.

Time for the Prince to put some serious money in. We and possibly Wilder, were led to believe that money would materialise when we were in the Championship and the Premiership was in touching distance.

Wilder is ambitious and he's already the wrong side of 50 so its not.like he's a mid 30s up and coming manager. He's performed miracles with very little money but he knows to compete with the likes of Villa, Wolves,Derby etc at some point he will probably have to invest some serious money. So far that's not been available and if it remains unavailable in my opinion he will go. His stock has never been higher and if he feels he' not getting the backing he needs did take us further he won't just stay cus he's a Blade...all my opinion of course.

Out of interest, what sort of amount do you envisage when you say "serious money"?

It’s cost ~6 million for every year we have been in the 1st division. That’s in excess of 30 million been blown away by the likes of Adkins and clough and we had to pay them compensation.

Some great points Finlay

Strange, though not a surprise, that a number of pessimists have already concluded the Board will not make money available in Jan and as a direct result CW will be off. Strange too that despite seeing at another local club how a tactic of blindly throwing money at signings doesn't guarantee success and can even have a negative effect, they are clamouring for multi-million pound signings.

Best to sit back, wait to see what happens and trust CW & co to secure the players that will give the club a good chance of (at least) maintaining their current position.

We outclassed Wolves and Derby at the Lane.

The 'for-one-reason-or-another-don't-make-it-onto-the-first-list' list:

MIDFIELDERS

Ryan Woods - Surely unrealistic but if there's any chance we could get him he'd be right at the top of the list.

Ademola Lookman - If we want a quick winger on loan I doubt we could do any better, if he's available. But he's one who'd really have to play every game.

ATTACKERS

Connor Wickham
- If fit enough would be a high calibre loan signing.

*Louis Moult - Scoring a lot of goals for Motherwell. Fox in the box with a decent all round game. Might be worth consideration and shouldn't be expensive.

Ollie McBurnie - Highly rated Scottish striker at Swansea. All round centre forward, tall and agile with good technical ability. Might be available on loan.

Jerome Sinclair - Would offer us something different but would we be willing to go back for him?
Wow...how do you know all this! Should be our scout!

First half maybe but not so much in the second. Personally I think he passes sideways and backwards too much and think there are better options out there.

You might be right.

What is clear and it's been the same a lot of the season - and even with Coutts - we have an awful lot of possession and we just don't do enough with it.

Same today - 64% on Millwalls patch and we just didn't do enough WITH the ball.

We need central midfield players who effect and influence a game.

We're actually doing OK - but it's not quite Carling.

We need to raise standards or have pressure put on players with the shirt more - I think those standards are slipping and we are looking a tad ordinary.

We have time to change it - but we need something and more importantly.......some quality.

UTB

Ryan Leonard, Billy Bodin, Devante Cole.

Young, gifted, hungry, up-&-coming, willing to fight for a place rather than being given everything on a plate.
