After crying myself to sleep after a miserable journey back last night and hoping it was all a bad dream I’ve decided to focus on the positives this morning -

1. 4 points from Villa is a good return

2. Hogan set to be introduced into the squad

3. We might have needed this wake up call at the back, these results can make you stronger.

4. Billy and Madine look very good together

5. Billy’s on fire

6. One defeat in 9 league games

7. Two home games coming up to set the record straight.

8. We’re 3rd

I know there’s loads of negatives from last night, but the positives are getting me through today *sigh*

I admire your courage. But prepare yourself........

These suddenly feel pivotal. A win against Boro and we can put the disappointment of the end of the Villa match quickly to bed. A draw and it looks like the effects extend well past that 13 minute spell.
My worry is teams will see how quickly we can drop once the pressures on us. We collapsed when West Brom attacked us at home as well....oh god I’m returning to my negative thoughts.

A lot of the 'positives' people will point out are extremely irritating, but one for me is that Wilder is already using Dowell and Madine in a significant way.

The negatives; Dowell is lightweight, but a good footballer, his cross for Billy's third goal, perfectly struck, perfectly weighted, rising at exactly the right momentum to reach Billy's forehead at the right time, was a thing of beauty. Just needs to toughen up.

Madine has no pace, if he did he would be lethal. Thought he played well.

think that was the deflection that did that. But agree he looks a player

Don't try and be positive on here, the undercover grunters and snowflakes won't like it.

I’ve actually got over last night by looking at the positives!!. For me they far outweigh the negatives!!!.
We’re still in a cracking position for the rest of the season.
I witnessed the weir era and the Adkins stint and realised we’re in a hell of a lot better state on and off the pitch than we were back then!!. Let’s just hope that our co owners can sort themselves out?.
Onwards and upwards for the mighty blades.

Agree.....once the dust settles then the positives massively out weigh any negatives.
The problem is the dust won’t settle until we beat a Boro on Wednesday, then beat Reading on Saturday.
Do that then 7 points from 9 in a week doesn’t look too bad and we’re back in the auto mix.

A positive. Mrs Numpty, when viewing "top" football on tv now and again, has tended to comment "oh look, it's proper football", as in a "beautiful game" type of football. Last night, before the collapse, was an awesome display of positive beautiful total football, against a pretty good side. Obviously, being Sheffield United, we couldn't just leave it at that, it's not the Blades way!!!!!

Another positive

Boro are currently beating Leeds 1-0.
If Boro end up winning then we’ve closed the gap from 3 points down to 2 points against the top 2.
Also it will plant even more seeds of doubts that Leeds are a spent force and now on the slide, they’ve been poor since Christmas.

Of course a Boro win is only good for us...if we go on to beat them on Wednesday night.

Still can't believe that stunning last few minutes of the comedy of errors,
Before the ugly bits, what an awesome display of football we saw yesterday, the Blades owned Villa! They must be happy that they don't have to play the Blades again!

Dowell looked decent, if he can find some form like that we should look to spend to make him the Duffy successor.

:)

Does that know lad tha's cheered me up no end :)

Thing is,when do you play Hogan ?My understanding is that he's a lot like Billy. By dropping Billy and playing Hogan with Madine it puts a lot of press on Hogan to score and Wilder will be inviting a lot of criticism if it doesn't work. Would Billy and Hogan be able to play together given their similar styles ? Everybody's wanting to see Hogan given the billing he's previously had. According to Dean Smith he's let him go out on loan because he can't drop Tammy whathisname because of his prolific scoring, yet he's being asked to fill in for thé leading scorer in the division.
Given that Dowell and Madine appear to be successful loans we're all expectant that Hogan will do well.

Or what is the sound of one hand clapping Grasshopper ?

9. The players seemed genuinely pleased for Dowell after he'd set up the third. No idea if I'm reading too much into a (deflected) assist for goal that took us into an unassailable  3-0 lead, but it looked like he was part of "the group".

He did switch off at least once defensively, but there was plenty of cover.

I don't think his Blades Intensity Level is up to 100%, but he's getting there.

I reckon he'll be a much better player by the end of the season.
