No excuse for not winning that absolutely none

Should have seen it out. Onto next UTB that's all I can say ATM

I’ve upset a few asking this in the shoutbox but what would people have done differently? The only one I can see that doesn’t necessarily need to be made is the Brewster one but I’ve no idea what his fitness levels are like having just come back from a fairly bad injury.

Didsy brought on for game management - which is a complete joke when you look at the number of times he gives the ball away in midfield, including the 2nd tonight.
Diabolical subs.
left us with no pace up front, so Preston had no fears about hanging back.Meant they could bomb forward.
Hecky and McCall must carry some blame for this as well.

He’s got his legs on the wrong way round but I’d have brought Burke on to stretch them and make their defenders think twice about stepping out.

Tbf, the management can’t legislate for the entire team folding quicker than an England batting line up.

Ndiaye should have stayed on, they couldn't get near him

It’s nice to have a sensible answer. Burke might’ve been a good option if Brewster really needed to come off. I certainly think his pace could be of use in certain circumstances. Other than that the options are fairly limited.

We were done by a lack of sound tactics starting at half time, we just didn't look the same when we came back out & Preston managed to create & miss a few chances while we were still in the dressing room. Against 10 men we should have been throwing everything at them to get a third, & from there the game is so much easier to manage. Instead a safety first attitude was evident, we literally gave them an invitation to keep knocking, & of course to no-ones surprise they obliged by knocking it down.
The substitutes were awful, I realise we had two injured played but having Billy & Didz up top just slowed us down & the ball kept coming back at us.
I don't know why I am annoyed any more, it's not as if I didn't know what would happen.

Tbh, I did have to double check who was on the bench and the options werent great.

Berge made sense to me as well actually because at least he can actually hold on to the ball and pick a sensible pass.

Yes bring Chris Silverwood into coaching set up at BDTBL- Joe Root could replace Billy up front ( he’s a Blade after all)
….. whilst I think about it why don’t we redevelop the ground - south stand needs doing - we could build out into the car park , make a cricket pavilion there and extend the pitch out so we can play cricket in the summer - maybe after all issues at Headingley, Yorkshire County Cricket Club would welcome a new HQ. Imagine test cricket at BDTBL- we could witness Blades and England collapses on the same ground at 2 sports 🤣

I think he has tried to be too clever in 'saving the legs' of our better players for Saturday.

Berge and Mcgoldrick especially came in and made us worse, with Sharp somehow not being dropped.

Every other team has an enforcer they put on for the last 15 minutes in the midfield.

I like Ndiaye but sometimes he needs to let go of the ball and play it to another team mate rather than looking to do another ‘Fulham’

He’s a young kid and a great prospect so his game will improve vastly to the point where we won’t be able to keep hold of him.

I'd have brought Burke on because there was nothing to stretch them at all. He would have put them on the back foot at least with his pace. I'd have brought Slater on instead of Berge because it was more of a battle we'd have to win and Berge is just too soft at times for such a big lad.

But make no mistake. This is on the players.

From Hecky's point of view, to close out a game, he brings on one of our most experienced players to help keep the ball in favour of one who is a bit wet behind the ears.

He then brings on a 22m midfield investment in lieu of a young lad who often struggles to finish games.

The RND change was enforced though Enda was playing that dopey pass to nobody type game which only serves to take the sting out of our own game rather than the opposition.

The manager is entitled to have expected far more. Let down by players who should be far better in those situations.

Of the players that came off two didn’t need to come off, you don’t make substitutions for the bastard sake of it, like I told you on shoutbox you provocative wanker.

We had an extra man. We had the lead. Why on earth would you not put an extra man in midfield? Given we wanted to retain the ball and move it round. Berge or Slater should have come on for Brewster. Then the Berge sub with him seemingly playing pushed up was puzzling.

Think you’ve read me wrong, I’m trying to have a sensible discussion to get around all of the negative ranting that’s going off. If you’d rather sit there wallowing in your own self pity then go right ahead.

As it is, you’ve no idea over the fitness of Brewster. You’ve no idea who needed to come off and who didn’t.

We had 3 really good chances to finish the game off, unfortunately they all fell to Brewster

There weren’t many good options on the bench but by taking off Ndiaye and Brewster he removed our two best attacking threats in the match. If it was fitness reasons then that is understandable, but we were left with no outlet at all, and no one with pace to hit them on the break.

Burke for Ndiaye would have been better, I know he’s not very good but he is quick and can carry the ball (albeit out of play a lot) and would have given something for them to worry about. Instead it was McGoldrick and Sharp who their defenders were very happy to match up against. What’s the point of putting Burke in the squad if you aren’t going to use them when playing against 10 men who are pushing forward looking for an equaliser and leaving gaps at the back?

Very concerning decision making from the management team, the whole set up for the second half seemed a bit odd. Yes, we created a few good chances, but we conceded way more than we did in the first half against 11 men. This isn’t a great surprise though, we have a poor management team. McCall is a league 2 level coach and Lester is a youth team coach.
