A guy sat behind me spent the afternoon shouting abuse at Baxter (fat, lazy, stupid) and Porter (Carthorse, idle, flat footed) as much as he did MacDonald, Like all clubs we have Neanderthals following us.
Agree with all of that
zablade, I suppose it's like any social outing, you pays your money and are then entitled to vent your spleen if what you've seen doesn't please you. It happens at the cinema as well as a whole host of excursions. What crosses my mind though is this; if a player receives a constant flow of verbal abuse, do we expect him to improve the way he plays? Imagine if this happened at work. Would our ability to deliver improve better because someone has attempted to undermine us?
It'll never change of course, there are those who seem to look forward to a Saturday afternoon where they can act out their own personal emotional drama. It makes me wonder if all's well at home with the wife? Getting a grip never seems to cross the minds of some of these people, but the response I'd expect to that question is that they pay their admission and this allows them to undermine the team they say they support. For whatever way you look at this, a continuous stream of bollocking isn't designed to improve the general level of performance of any player.
But hey ho, such is the lot of a football fan. Some banter can be very entertaining, some can be obscene, and some can be downright hostile. I doubt the likes of myself will ever change the minds of those who imagine they are Saturday afternoon managers. Nor would I want to if I'm honest. I'd just like to hear something that represents support rather than pointless criticism.
I doubt Kevin Mc will be too troubled by the crap directed at him, and nor should he. But let's take a player like Matty Hill. He's never going to rise above the level we're currently at (go and prove me wrong Matt, I'd love to see you perform at a higher level) but that man has served us well when called upon. He's taken really hostile crap from sections of the crowd, yet he always does his best, and sometimes his best is actually quite good. So think on about what it is you want and expect from the players who are meant to represent this club. If we constantly denigrate particular players don't be surprised if they make mistakes, it's what happens to a person when their confidence is low.
