Poll time. Can we do this?

Can we escape relegation to make this one of the most memorable and satisfying seasons of all time?

  • Yes. We gonna do this. We don’t go from the best team in 45 years to one of the worst overnight

does anyone know what kind of form (in terms of league position) we would need in the last 18 games to escape relegation

I reckon if we hit similar form and points return to what we had up to pre-lockdown 1 we wouldn't be that far off staying up.

Assuming Newcastle lose today, we can...what? It was an early kick off? Eh?

Yeah few doom sayers out again talking about we are down. We are not down till we are down. When there is a will there is a way.

Would we say that any team 10 points off the play-offs in the leagues below have no chance of making them? I wouldn’t say so. And, in our case, the teams we’re chasing tend to lose, a lot. We have to eat an elephant, no doubt but we only have to do it a bite at a time. If we’re 5-6 points off with 4 games to go we give ourselves every chance.
I do like your last sentence.

Forgot which month it was but at some point in the second half of the 06/07 season we were 10 points clear but still found a path to relegation.

Will we do the opposite this time around from being 10 points adrift?

Maybe I should've waited a few more hours till the Brighton result came in!

Now a 13 point gap

10 points was already a mountain.

13 points is just a slightly higher mountain.

Very little has changed and there are still 51 points up for grabs. Let's just do West Brom, as we should have done last time, and take it from there.

if we can beat WBA on Tuesday. not only do we get to magical 11pts ;) but we would be a point off West Brom & only 7 pts off safety.

dare i say it starting to look realistic

Best we can be after the West Brom game is 10 points from safety.

A lot of chickens being counted in this thread, people seem to forget that the other teams can pick up points too...

I voted for the third option cause I’ve done option 2

Last season we averaged 1.42 points per game. Replicating that form for the last 17 games will see us end the season on 32 points, which probably won’t be enough. Watford and Bournemouth went down on 34 last season.

Are you one of those dreadful managers who once read Covey’s book and now thinks they’re some kind of motivational speaker? Eating a fucking elephant indeed.

Ordinarily I'd agree, it's bullshit bingo territory.

But a well meaning friend offered that saying when Ms Crab passed, and it kind of helped initially, especially when dealing with what can only be described as the admin aspects of the passing, which at first felt quite overwhelming.

The thread title asks can we do it but the poll wants a commitment to yes, we'll do it, which is different.
I think we can because I think the team has the ability to do it, but of course it will be a huge task. The downside is obviously the 13 point deficit, the upside is that we are not chasing 1 team to avoid relegation, but 3. All 3 (Brighton, Burnley, Newcastle) look pretty terrible, but do keep picking up points. We only need one to crash and burn.

We have no chance. Our recovery needed to begin in the Burnley or Palace away games, our recent uptick will only give us a chance to not finish bottom.

I'm sorry to hear that, and glad that it helped you in that particularly horrible set of circumstances.
