I will also point out that, assuming the OP will be using the midpoint of each class as an estimate, the result will, in fact be only an estimate. I'm sure the OP will also have no problems in calculating the error intervals wand standard deviations as well.

Oh, and by the way, I am 25. After reading my post back, an extremely borIng 25 at that.

Same haha, may use this in a lesson, get them lot to work it out for us :) (a 26 year old boring maths teacher here)
 

That is correct!
You see, in my old age my memory is giving up!!! Good job I didn't confuse it with Hull and the early afternoon beers on the green outside the WMC after the green Man was stopped letting us have refreshing beverages. Best match we had a Wembley for a long while though that.
Apart from losing again, that was a good day!!
 
As at 12.18 there were 377 who'd done the poll.

Using the mid range of each band and taking the last one as '80', gives the mean average age of 41.9.

The most common age is 21-25, but the median age is the 41-45 group which ties in nicely with the mean.

I am not a Maths teacher, just dull.

It is actually, to me at least.

I'd expected that the average age on here would be 50-60, as there are loads of us old bores who drone on about TC, Woody and the Fourth Division. I was pleasantly surprised to see so much 'yoof'.

Having said that, some of these tweet like posts are a bit un-edyfying and punctuation seems to be a thing long gone.

Maybe have a special feature like Radio4's 'Thought for the day'? We could start with a simple explanation of 'theirs" and "there's".

I might be a weapons-grade twat myself but I've always outlined my twattishness in standard English.

Enough to understand that:

'As well' and 'a bit' are not one fucking word.

'Could/would/should of' should be punishable by death.

'There/their/they're' - The most common reason for an incorrect sentence.

Any others? I'm sure there are. A tell-tale sign of a crumbling civilisation is the degeneration of its very language.

Those who add apostrophes in completely inappropriate places.

If grammar isn't your thing just leave them alone completely.

One of the early rules of this place, one which is still on the statute book you will note, is that we expect people to use proper English and not "txt spk". This opened us up to allegations of snobbery from elsewhere, but our reason was that we were trying to be inclusive of a broad spectrum of users.

We've always had an element of posters perhaps more advanced in their years. Some don't speak English as a first language. Some may require the use of screen-reading software. A chunk of text lacking vowels may be enough to send any of those people elsewhere when otherwise, they may stick around and contribute positively to the community.

Additionally, if you want people to pay attention to what you have to say, it is good manners to take care over the way your message is communicated. If you can't be bothered to type it out to the best of your ability, why should people take the time to read it?

I agree wholeheartedly.

I appreciate that some don't find spelling very easy for instance, but there's no excuse for poor usage. It just demonstrates laziness.

I'm no snob myself, I'm common as shit in real life (you've met me). I just try to maintain a healthy respect for the written word.

For me, typing things on here in text speak is a bit like people who insist on sharing their shittty phone music with the rest of us. It might be what the "kids" do, but it's still quite twattish.
 
Language always mutates, innit bruv. It's healthy. If there had always been Language Nazis you lot in particular would still write things like this:
