Looks like the reduced policy is the result of some smart research:

Fans are focus of Football League project to reduce match-day policing

One day the default belief of SYP ,that we are all hooligans, will be bred out of those responsible for the largely misplaced stereotyping we face. Little imho has changed, perhaps less on horseback, in 40 odd years of attending games. I suspect it might take some time before any of the evidential research feeds into police training methodology. I hope I am wrong.

Probably seen as not much need for it. We haven’t really got many rivalries this season. Also the premier league fans tend to be a lot less enthusiastic shall we say than the championship.

I suspect you will see a lot more at home against West Ham, Villa, Norwich and maybe Chelsea though

People have a lot more to lose.
No matter what club you support, if you have enough points to get tickets, get done and banned you may never get a ticket to another away game for years if ever

Norwich??

The only plod I saw were riding around in a mini bus which is as it should be, nothing worse than riot police in your face to wind people up and cause trouble. Maybe SYP are at long last learning have the Police on hand in case but keep it low profile. The average hooli these days only starts bouncing around behind a wall of coppers.

In regard to last nights game v Arsenal I noticed a distinct lack of police prescence on the walk up to the ground from the train station and near the ground
I got into Midland station around 4.20pm not a single officer on the forecout of the station or outside the Howard there is usually some coppers knocking about. The same up near Decathalon not a single copper or riot van in sight. There was about 30 Arsenal fans giving it the big one near Fannys no Police around and the same in the St Marys Gate underpass
Contrast that to last season in the Championship there was always plenty of Police / Riot vans at Midland station and near Fannys in Decathalon car park also in the underpass. You was not allowed to even stand outside Fannys for some games and the Police around there and Decathalon was sometimes complete over kill. Our friends from Durham Constabulary must be looking at their wage slips and bemoaning the lack of overtime they used to get from being on duty at the Lane
Cant understand it being so different

you were a tad early though.

Yes I know, but it kicked off other year didn’t it with blades going through away turnstiles

I thought it was chasing someone through the SS concourse after an older Blade was assaulted.

I walked straight through the Gooners trying to give Fannys the big one.

Right set of degenerates. Said to two of them if they really wanted it they should continue going off like that for a bit longer until they reached the underpass.

They seemed to prefer bouncing around giving it from a distance to the OAPs outside the Nelson though 😆

Excuse me, you are Danny Dyer and I claim my mockney slang translation book

I wasn't suggesting to them they'd get it off myself.

I was suggesting if they really wanted someone to bite at their rather pathetic intimidation, then continuing to goad once at the underpass and Bramall Lane, would more likely reap some competition as opposed to the older uninterested fellas enjoying a pre-match pint outside Fannys.

Hope you weren't suggesting I'm a pwoppa nawtee geeza.

You want some?
Come on. You want some you cant?

Sorry just practising for Saturday when I offer my chips round in the home end.

Chips?

Pie and mash, ideally with liquor. Failing that, jellied eels or whelks should work.

If it looks like it's going tits up, a quick chorus of Knees up muvva Brown or Maybe it's be 'cos I'm a Londoner should sort it.

Seen quite a few away fans up London road this season. Thought it was a nice change and was good to see fans mingle, but on Monday I was sat with my kids in the Cremorne and there a was a big group of Arsenal in there, all absolutely fine (except one.. who I'll come to). Queueing for a pint I was having a laugh with them, all of them decent lads.

I sat down to the right of the door (as you walk in) and one of the Arsenal lot (not one I was speaking to) was stood by the ladies toilet absolutely hammered, swinging back and forth, clearly had too much beer, and he was just constantly staring at me. I'm with my 2 young kids, clearly on a table by ourselves, and I only caught his eye as I glanced up a couple of times.

After that, every time I looked up he was clocking me. Staring straight at me with daggers like he was going to kick off. I was with my kids, 11 and 6, at a table on our own. He was seriously riling me up, to the point I had to leave.

Also walked past the coaches on the way to the ground, and some scrawny cockney idiot thought we were Arsenal (despite the kids being dressed in full SUFC kit) and announced "can't wait to fight these" to us (had I been by myself I'd have pointed out they were Arsenal, not Millwall).

Had a good chat with some Palace fans in the Beer Engine. Southampton fans were in the Cremorne and were sound, but I'm now starting to doubt the wisdom of going in these places (that I've drank in for many years) if they're letting away fans in after that Arsenal game. I'm big enough to walk away, especially when I'm with my kids, but if the drunk idiot had stared at the wrong person there would have been serious trouble.

I like a beer before a game, but not the extent I'd want my kids to be in a pub where it can potentially kick off.

The Devonshire Cat closed early on a Saturday afternoon for the first time ever this season, because of a dickhead bunch of Leicester fans.
They have always been welcoming to away fans. So a real shame and as you say a potentially worrying trend.

I was also surprised that there weren't even a couple of coppers near Fannys as this is an obvious pinch point where groups of away fans are going to walk straight past a boozer spilling over with Blades.

It very nearly kick off and there were plenty of elderly people and kids who would have been right in the crossfire. Some parked car got a bit of a beating by the Arsenal lot as they were goading from a distance. Just a couple of coppers would stop this from happening.

Saying all of this though, it was actually a lone Blade who started it all by charging from Fannys through the car park straight towards the chanting Arsenal fans on their way to the ground shouting 'who wants some - come on then'...

Sorry about that, my grandmother has anger management issues.

She heads up the saga branch of the BBC.

I would try The Red Lion on Charles Street, they have bouncers on the door and a home fans policy only policy
never seen an ounce of trouble/ potential trouble in there but dont go in every home game
Was in against Leicester there were a couple of Leicester fansthat got in and they were asked to leave by the bouncers even though they wasnt causing a problem.

Interesting that Leeds v Birmingham had the West Yorks police claiming that it was the “worst trouble for a decade” after the game.

Then just a few days later PNE v Leeds had nearly 5.5k of Leeds fans and zero arrests or bother for the Police to get excited about.

Nowadays it really does depend on the fixture. Are the SYP starting to wise up to this? I really hope so.

I can’t say that I noticed a police presence at all on Monday, which is always what you want. It’s a game of football ffs, have a drink and enjoy it or drown your sorrows after rather than trying to twat someone.

It doesn’t mean that the game needs sanitising and we’ll have games with extra policing, but most fans are well behaved.
Preston police are an exception to the rule they liaise with fans and have a great attitude makes a better experience also West Bromwich last season again police were excellent treating you as a person rather than a football hooligan
