Season is well and truly over as far as Promotion is concerned and we arent good enough to win the play offs.

The board should however be doing all it can behind the scenes to identify a new manager and get ready to have him in place quickly once we get in to the close season, somone who will know what sort of players can get us out of this division.

And one last thing, for God sake don't give Clough money to waste in January.

Meh leave it how it is and see where we are in May.

Chances are we won't be in the top two though.

On the face of it Clough and Weir have little in common. However, despite radically different win percentages (50+% to less than 10%) what they have in common is playing a system inappropriate to the division they are in or the squad of players available. Discuss.

Is it fair to say the players don't respect him? Is there one player on that pitch that gives him 100%? Both player and manager need to change their attitudes it's not fair to the fans.

I said he deserves a year at the start of the season and a year he will get from me.(despite everything)

If you did think he should go then there's surely every point to sack him now? Let a new manager have a couple of games with the squad before the January transfer window. Then have the second half of the season to go at it?

We're still in with every chance of the play-offs and even automatic wouldn't be a stretch if we changed our mentality and style of play. If we coninue as we are then no chance of either.

How many managers in succession are we going to blame before the real problem is recognised? Even those that see and acknowledge it still lay a massive portion of blame in front of whom ever is in the dugout. Club never changes, fans never change.

We're amongst one of the top 5 or 10 clubs to have changed their manager most in the past 5 years.

Out of ALL the clubs in that list, none are successful or have attained promotion recently.

Sacking Nigel at this stage is NOT the answer... If we do not achieve promotion via the Playoffs then it should be time for him to see the door and get someone in who has proved ability to achieve promotion at this level.

Pointless sacking him. But I must say, it's not only players that become crap when they sign for us, it seems like it's managers too.

It would be nice to see a manager recognise his teams strengths and weaknesses and adjust his failing style to the benefit of the club before he reaches the point of this being a necessary discussion. As it stands I still want clough in charge and hope he can make it work but he cannot continue with the current dross being served up at home.

I think the one job Nigel has done brilliantly is remove any fear from supporters that we will once again be selling our best player once the transfer window re-opens.

One way of looking at it. Another is that 2 clubs of similar stature to us in recent history - Southampton and Wednesday - both sacked their managers when the team was in a similar position to we are now, and reaped the rewards. There are no easy answers in football, apart from maybe - whatever hunch McCabe has, do the opposite. I'm with you, I think if we don't go up this season he should be sacked, but he should have the full season to try. The board are very lucky that we had the cup run last season, I think it has stuck 4-5k onto the average attendances we might otherwise have expected and given Clough much goodwill.

No point sacking him unless you have a better alternative to put in place. Any suggestions - Stuart McCall, Alex Sabella ? hmmm probably not. But NC shouldn't have any doubts that he does not have unlimited time to get us out of this division.

This isn't just about last night. For whatever reason he is performing like a one-trick pony tactically. It isn't working and it isn't even entertaining. 2 points out of 12 from the last 4 home games is poor, especially when 3 of those were effectively 6 pointers. Just not good enough Nigel. Before he starts lambasting individual players, the opposition or officials he needs to take a good long hard look at himself in the mirror and start working on the areas he is weak on.

Sorry but NC has to take responsibility for the players he has bought, the teams he puts out and the instructions he gives them. I can well understand him not wanting to lose - who does. But the negativity tactically is handing the opposition the initiative and a relatively easy ride for their defence especially in the first half and at the Lane. Its starting to look to me like he is beginning to lose the players as well. Ultimately this fear of losing will be self defeating and will be the cause of losses. This needs sorting and quickly or this season will be another wash-out. Not that you will read this but its up to you Nigel - or should I say down to you.

If he doesn't show some flexibility and willingness to change things when they're clearly not working then he'll never be seen as a great manager. All the things Derby fans say about him will be justified, that he's a safe pair of hands, will steady the ship but he's not capable of taking teams to the next level. Adapting and finding a solution to our current problems is as important to his career and reputation as it is for the team's promotion hopes.

The current system hasn't been working for a while now but there has been almost no changes other than swapping personnel around. Other teams can confidently predict how we're going to play and it's becoming increasingly obvious they know how to set up against us. It's the law of diminishing returns.

Any side coming to the Lane only has to look at the example of Oldham or Notts or MK and they've got a blueprint for getting something from the game.

Reminds me of that saying that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Fully agree on not sacking him but yesterday was the first game I have been to in a while and I cant believe how bad we are! What frustrated me further was Clough's post match interview saying we played well! Our build up is slow and very predictable.

Is this really what people think? If we go on a bad run sack the manager? How many times have we gone through the same ridiculous dance to find it isn't any better once we get the new man in. You can't keep going on blaming the manager for this. This club has been chronically underfunded for years now, yet we expect our managers to work with both arms and legs tied behind their backs. Surely all the managers we have had can't all be rubbish.

I'm afraid it is symptomatic of the game and wider society, so long as theres a head on a spike we are happy. What needs to be addressed is the real cancer in the club and that isn't Nigel Clough. Nigel Clough is a decent (no more no less) manager doing a decent job with a team that will get to the edge of the play offs if we are lucky. He is cursed by his good run last season and some people suddenly thinking we are going to walk this league. He shouldn't be beyond critisism but anyone thinking we should sack him should have a look at our position. We must be one of those clubs Managers really wouldn't want to touch with a shitty stick. Who would we end up with? When you take the rose tinted glasses off Micky Adams suddenly appears a typical run of the mill candidate.

We are a middle of the road third tier side, if we sack Clough we will end up with a middle of the road third tier manager and still the chronic selling of our best players, replacing them with lesser players will continue. When we stop selling these decent players we might actually go somewhere.

Slow is being polite. Someone light a fucking rocket up the team and coaching staff

To be fair I think most people are not up for sacking him - yet. Just frustrated at what appears to be his tactical limitations and obsessions. He seems to repeatedly make the same mistakes. Will he learn, probably not I am afraid - according to Nigel (from the Stir)

“If you asked us if we’d take that performance at home though, between now and the end of the season, we’d say yes all day long.

“If our ‘keeper had been peppered rom start to finish, we’d hold our hands up. But, whereas others are coming here at the moment and getting the luck, we aren’t being so fortunate.

“However, if we keep persevering, then the luck will start going our way.”

I have always been of the opinion that you make your own luck, but if you believe in that type of thing you do have to buy a ticket if you want to win the lottery

There are problems I don't argue that but to level everything at the manager is just plain stupid. Also, to take what he says to the press as gospel is a little naive. He might be lacing into the players between times but protecting them to the media because you don't do your washing in public. Lets be fair he is the same bloke that took us to a cup semi final (and 45 minutes from the final itself), also took us to a couple of points short of a play off place. He hasn't gone bad overnight.

I am aware that some come on here post game and just vent spleens but its worrying that after a bad run the default position for some is sack the manager as it must be his fault.

I do blame a lot o this on the Ched situation.

Quite clearly, we held back funds for Ched's return..whatever the board said about cash being available, the only strikers we signed were 'one's for the future' and a last minute grab with Higgo (whom Chessy knocked back, because they wouldn't pay his wage demands, ironic that we would n't pay O Grady's wage demands eh, as that was obviously Nigel's first choice...and I suspect if we had he would have moved here due to his family being settled in the area)

Then there's the Coady situation...perhaps he did want a move to the Champ, but with the right package and desire to bring him here I'm sure we could have worked it out...£400K? Bargain...
