I would like Wilder to come out and shoulder some of the responsibility even if he doesn't feel he needs to as it may relieve some of the pressure on the players. Its excuse after excuse, one week he's saying we can't compete financially, following week its "all down to individuals making mistakes" this weeks excuse is "we've singed players for this system so need to stick with it". I'm sorry we've spent the best part of £100+million and have neither the players to go with plan A or a viable plan B. This nonsense about wages has to stop your not telling me Brewster is on 10k a week. Spending £50 million on fees would still have left a sizeable chunk for wages even if we went down.

How about coming out and saying "we set up to keep it tight early doors and maybe that wasn't right as it just invited pressure and goals" and as Bergen Blade has pointed out leaves the midfield running around like headless chickens. "I picked McBurnie and Sharp up top to be physical with 6ft6 Vestergard and 6ft4 Bednarek who despite their complete lack of pace were able to sit on the halfway line without any fear of us getting in behind".

If were going to insist on sticking with this 5-3-2 we aren't going to get 15 points this season. We are going down with Wilder make no mistake about it but lets not crush all hopes of bouncing back by destroying the players confidence. If nothing else protect their resale value and play some attacking football.

I don't like listening to his interviews now they are worlds away from the inspiring ones from seasons gone by. Even after a defeat he said what the majority of fans were thinking. Now it just seems he's in denial.
 
He has done, in a radio Sheffield pre match interview he said that the whole group is underperforming, he explicitly said he was included in that.

I think Wilder knows that they've given up too. How he handles this who knows, but one thing is for sure, when you've lost the dressing room, then the exit door is opening fast.

I've resigned myself to the fact that we are going down, but I really want Wilder to get them playing again and ready for a promotion push from the Championship. All those wishing Wilder out should remember the past (cough..... Robson) and be careful what you wish for.

For me, Wilder jumped the shark with his disgraceful post match press conference against Leicester last season when he ripped into everyone

That’s exactly where I pinpoint it too. I think the players have stopped playing for him, And that is exactly why we need to change manager whilst we can still get out of this.

There is no certainty in that we come straight back up. Going down could cripple us as a club when we have the loan on the stadium, the Prince was quoted as saying we needed to stay in the Prem for 5 years to pay that off.
 
Too much chopping and changing. Players like Bryan and Jags, who have been nowhere near the starting 11 suddenly in the team. Burke starts a couple of games and then not even in the squad. Players don't know whether they are coming or going which won't help confidence.

And if the Prince's plan was based on staying in the PL for 5 years then he's a fool.
 
I always hate it when people say we need to go down to re group and come back stronger
Over 40 years of watching us, we always seem to go down and then go down again
The club in an absolute mess, followed by numerous manager changes and terrible players
We absolutely need to do everything possible not to get relegated
Southampton were terrible last season early on, look at them now
 
Usually wilder is bang on with his assessment. Very rarely if ever tries to sell us something we haven’t seen with our own two eyes

But I fundamentally disagree we were ever in that match - the result was inevitable with the way we set up. So I was surprised he was pleased with the first 30 minutes and our structure when it was shit! We are unable to string a pass together, press is and we crumble

but on the flip side non of the players are helping him out.... No one is justifying his selections or putting their hand up to be selected from the bench. I genuinely think that teams have worked out how to play against our system and it’s madness not to at least try and do something about it!

we couldn’t do any worse looking at a different formation, could we?
 
His "we maintained them for the first 30mins " comment was the ramblings of an insane man we have not heard here since Adkins
We didn't maintain them , it was utterly embarrassing to watch and you could have bet you house on them scoring and as someone said on another thread, we looked like a pub team who had won a competition, I do slightly disagree with that comment though as at least a pub team may put in a little effort

Do you honestly agree with his take on the first half? We were hanging on from minute 1 with no attacking outlet and for him to say "we were tight and maintained them' didn't sit right with me when we could have gone in at half time 2/3 down.

He's now praising every team we play saying they are "a really good side". Where has the swashbuckling "av a go" attitude gone?

I think everybody on this thread is acknowledging that we were dog shit yesterday and Wilder and the players got it completely wrong. He knows that, and is trying to man manage a very difficult situation.

My point is, be careful what you wish for, because as strange as Wilder is acting atm we've been there before when we've chopped and changed managers and look what's happened............ it's the Blades way! What I am saying is I hope that Wilder can somehow get the players back on side and start to at least play like a professional football team again. I think it's fair to say that relegation is a distinct possibility - especially with the results in the two later games yesterday - and we need to plan for the probability of trying to get back up. I'm not saying give up on avoiding relegation, of course I'm not, but if you want to talk 'facts' then the table doesn't lie.

Personally I would like to see Wilder be the man to lead our challenge next season.

I have nothing but the greatest respect for Chris Wilder, he took our club, that was spiralling towards the abyss and created a double promotion winning side. Last season was fantastic, we played great attacking football [for the most part} and took most teams and pundits by surprise. Once the surprise is over, the skill and ability of a manager is judged by their ability to ; Change, Tweek and kick on for the next season.

If we take our current run, back to last season, we have lost 15 out of 16 games, to state the obvious, something has gone wrong and this level of losses is not sustainable. In these cases, fans can sometimes gain comfort from a laser and steadfast focus by the Manager on his system and the assurances that it will come good with hard work alone.

Chris has a repetitive mantra at the moment "The system is not to blame" which maybe the case. However, if you haven't bought the players capable of being successful in the system, who takes responsibility for that?????? The best managers in the game, throughout history, understand the strengths and attributes of their players and define a system they can prosper in. Sean Dyche, is a perfect example. His football maybe basic, however his system fits the players he has at his disposal.

Changed is needed, one way or the other

I've just had a quick Google search of Chris Wilder and "I take responsibility" and found this from last month:

Ok fair enough, looking back I was a bit out of order.

With that said I think the way he lays into the players is not appropriate, nor was his sneering 'Playstation managers' remark at fans concerned about the system we were playing, but hey he's been a very successful manager for 99% of his career.

I'd be interested in seeing what you mean by laying into the players. For me, Wilder is one of the best man managers we've had in my lifetime. That means when he chooses to lay into the players, or protect them, he'll have thought about the implications of it over and over beforehand. Part of it will reflect his straight-talking approach, so it's not often he'll BS an interviewer, but generally when he's called the players out I believe he's done so because he thinks it'll get a reaction. But I think if you followed all of his comments on this horrific run, you'll find he's been sympathetic to the players too.

The "Playstation managers" comment is a bit different. I know we'll all take that personally as well. But looking at the state of discussion on social media, I'm not surprised that's Wilder's reaction. He'll probably just be aware of a load of idiots on Facebook and Twitter going mental. He doesn't get the kind of cutting analysis provided by the likes of FMBlade1 and Bergen Blade (poor guy), and so I think that's aimed over there.

Maybe I'm being overly defensive, but I just think sometimes odd things like that can end up annoying people for no real reason.

I don't have the exact quotes to hand but others remember it as well. It was from then on that I think he might have lost them, regardless of what Baldock said this afternoon. Of course I could be entirely wrong and can only speculate.

And yes maybe I'm being over sensitive and a bit precious!

I suppose his justification at the time was that we'd done so well in the games previous to that then went and lost and hit the roof.

From a players perspective they might have thought "two games left, nothing to play for and he's going off like that, fuck him, lets just get it over with" and it's carried through to this year

I've looked up the comments after that game. I don't think they were that bad? Maybe could've used a kinder "we've had a great season, the players will have off days" line but I don't think that's Wilder.

"We were way off of it. We have taken some enormous steps forward this season, but the goalkeeper kept us in the game. We never deserved anything form the game - off it from the first minute to the 90th, no excuse from us. Technically very poor, physically out-fought.

"We have done a job on a couple of teams recently but their fight was bigger than ours and they wanted the result more.

"They were sharper, quicker in thought and in action. We have helped them get going again."
