Before the relentless slating of our players and manager begins. It pains me to say it but Forest look really, really, really good. Better than most of the Prem sides we've played in the last few years. Still believe we can do it though.

That was one of the worst playoff displays we have ever, if not the worst, produced..
On the plus side it's only a goal now, however on the negative I just can't see us getting a result at thiers.

I want to hope , but I think they just have too much for us.

God I hate the playoffs.

Was just going to say that Forest outplayed us today. We must do a LOT better in 2nd game to prove we are worth Prem.
To me it looked like we were nervous or somehow our mental side wasn't in place. Now that the biggest steam has blown off maybe we can concentrade to the actual game.

I wouldn't like to drop name (again and again), but our midfield could do better or to be changed. It won't be good enough with todays performance.

It's not over. The second leg will not end 0-0 and form, etc is clearly out the window. I'm disappointed of course, but even 2 nil I was hoping for a second leg unlikely, but 1 goal down with 90 mins minimum to play, you never know....

Now that was a long journey home 😂

Play crap, put on a master class, not show up, look world beaters. We have seen all these this season. Really need a master class. Pressure is off. This is the final as Hudders or Looton are not going up.

Same tossers giving up at 2-0 on this thread that did at 1-0 at v QPR 🤣
You know who you are 🙄

Old guard let us down. They need recycling in the summer. Time to move on now

We need athleticism adding in the summer. Forrest had it in abundance and absolutely shagged us in large parts of that game.

P. S I wanted Cooper as manager in the summer. Hecky's done well tho.

We looked a bag of nerves and when Norwood and Steven's were on we had 9 against 13.

1-2 was flattering to us but we can still do this. Come on Hecky sort it out!

I feel like I've watched that match many times throughout the season. The defence not protected by a weak midfield. The defence making simple errors and letting players go unmarked
The front two isolated with no service as the midfield kept giving the ball away or kicking it backwards. The wide players pumping in poor cross after poor cross. Wasteful corners and crosses that go straight onto the 6 yard line and are too easy for the keeper to claim.

I felt sorry for Berge, MGW and Ndiaye today because Norwood, Fleck, Stevens and Osborn were so awful.

That said, Forest were good but not great. We made them look good because of the above but most of their chances were either shot wide or straight at Wes in the middle. Wes only had about two genuine saves to make and he was helpless for the goals as he was left exposed through a slip for the first, and woeful awareness and marking for the second. We made Forest look better than they were.

Thankfully we have seen this performance on many occasion this season and Hecky normally sorts it out for the next match. That said, fuck me he needs to work on corners and crossing as it's our main outlet and they're predictable, shit and too easy to defend against.

It ain't over yet. We're still in it but we won't score 3 at the City Ground, so we have to raise our all round game on Tuesday.

I think we all know we can't complain. By the limitations of our side we actually played ok for most of the game, but they are certainly a better team and much more equipped to at least give the Premier League a go.

This tie isn't all over, but the way we were pulled apart at times on the break with the ease of a psychopathic toddler pulling the legs off a helpless spider it's just a nightmarish vision of what next season would look like in about 30 games if, by some chance in a thousand we found ourselves winning at Wembley.

And yet... I still want us, somehow, to win. Football defies all logic in every imaginable way.

Not based on that performance really. Can’t see Forest letting this slip…..but there’s always hope.

Don't get me wrong mate, they are favourites now and no arguments from me.

Just pointing out that a 1 goal deficit against a team who couldn't beat us over two games in the league this season is not insurmountable. It probably feels like it today because of our first half performance in particular. Put it this way - we score first in the 2nd leg and the tie is alive again. Let's hope.

Carry no threat going forward. At this level, really telling. Been like this for 3 seasons. Hard to see it changing at City ground. Hard to see it changing next season. McBunny, Burke & Brewster are hardly prolific.

So, as I coughed up 12 quid to watch the game on Now TV I will share what I think I saw. As an neutral observer it looked like the level of expectation on the team was just a bit too much to bear at times and as a result things got rushed more than a bit. But the effort and fight were there for the whole game. I have to say Forest looked a very confident, impressive team and at 2-0 they were cruising, but the very late Sheffield goal changes everything. Hopefully you will go into the second leg with absolutely nothing to lose and with Forest thinking job done already, and an early goal for you chaps could make for a very interesting night. What are the chances of Billy Sharp being fit for the second leg? It did seem to me that you missed his guile and experience. Good luck Tuesday guys I will be willing you on.

Blimey you said nothing positive whatsoever on this thread, very negative with your posts and how we were playing, and rightly so btw. So you are no different to anyone with the negativity.

Made one post saying the midfield were giving no protection to the defence , you lot going off everyone’s crap and Heckys clueless!

Firstly, Forest are the possibly the best team to turn up at the Lane. They have a better team than we do.

Every time Forest broke they looked like they might score whilst, even when we got through, we never entirely looked confident that anything would come from it. Osborne might have slipped for the first but that was not his man. Why was he left with two men while Bash had to come across to cover Johnson? Where were the other two CBs? Second was a poor mistake and Egan is not the only defender who does that checking back up against a quicker player.

In the end, we could easily have lost that by several goals and already been out of it. Still a chance on Tuesday but our away form is poor. Poor in all areas of the pitch, apart from in goal. Our crossing was generally terrible, as were out final balls and decisions.

Foderingham - 8 - Our MoM by a long country mile. Made some vital saves and kept us in it.
Stevens - 5 - Poor really. Made one great run to draw the defenders away for the Berge run and got forward ok first half. The rest wasn't great.
Robinson - 6 - Another stupid booking and some poor long throws. All the three CBs were all at sea, at times, and the first goals came down his side. Whether he scored or not it was his determination that got the goal.
Egan - 5 - Poor mistake for their second goal and was awol for their first. Terrible first half. I expect him to organise our defence and they were pulled everywhere. Made some vital blocks second half before the mistake. Had a header cleared off the line.
Basham - 6 - Probably the best defender today but as guilty as anyone for the lack of organisation first half. Got forward ok but was easily beaten a few times down the side of him.
Osborn - 4 - Slipped for the first and poor throughout really. Every time it came to the right he was in the way.
Fleck - 5 - Provided very little cover for the defence. Mixed in the rest of his play but needs to be more influential
Norwood - 4 - Thought he was poor. Some terrible ball and absolutely no cover for the defence. Sloppy passing as well
Berge - 6 - One of our better players first half. Found space between their defence and midfield. Also made runs passed the forwards. Too slow at times though and a little clumsy.
Ndiaye - 4.5 - Thought he was really poor today. Get a half point for his workrate and tackling back but poor going forward. Had chances and made bad decisions/dithered over them. Nothing stuck to him and offered little as someone running the line.
MGW - 4.5 - One of the worst games he's had for us. Made a series of bad decisions and telegraphs what he's going to do. Kept running into the defenders. gets half a point for great delivery from the corner but his passing and crossing was bad today.

Subs

Baldock - 5 - Don't think he really added anything. Got booked stupidly.
Jebbison - Did he even touch the ball?
RND - Let the ball run out for the corner. Apart from that, not really involved.

Hecky - 5 - We looked second best for most of the game today. We gave them too much space and allowed them to counter at will. We lacked energy and ideas. Maybe a bridge too far. You wonder who he can bring on which will change a game.

Forest - Their defensive line was a disaster first half, Spence is terrible at playing in a system and there were gaps all over, but we rarely exploited it. They were much better in that area second half. They broke really well first half and will be disappointed not to have won the tie by halftime. As it stands, they've given us a sliver of light. Johnson is a very impressive young player but they have several dangerous players going forward.
