A point we can take from the squad or stadium thread is that universally, we know we're going to have to spend "some" money on the squad if we get promoted and want to stay there.

A real question mark remains over how much is going to be made available to spend.

So... obviously we can't take a stab at wages or fees, but being realistic, who would you want to sign this summer if we got into the Premiership? Which areas would need strengthening?

Given the signings in the recent past in general and taking into account how they have been handled the first thing McCabe needs to do is appoint someone to take control over transfers who knows what they are doing.

Like we were saying before when people were on about KB being sacked... I think a DoF position will be created.

They spoke about it enough in the past but nothing ever seemed to come from it.

We need 2 Premiership class Strikers. A creative Midfielder, A left sided Midfielder & a Left back. Who? God knows!

Correct, just a suggestion for left back Gareth Bale as he doesn't seem to get into the Spurs side all the time anymore so he might just come? (not a fantasy team choice but we do have to be realistic)

On top of what people have said I'd like to see a couple of centre halves brought in for a bit stronger strength in depth. The best thing would be looking at teams who go down in my opinion.

We need a younger Chris Morgan. By this I mean leadership, influence and strength. Without Morgs our centre backs are a bit lightweight.

Okay i'll throw some names out there.

The lad Turner from Hull would be an excellent signing at centre half and exactly the kind of player that would suit Sheffield United. Failing this i would look at snatching one of the Wednesday centre halves who seem very accomplished at this level.

Taking either Kasper Schmeical or Ian Hart from Man City would provide some real competition for Paddy although i reckon there will be plenty of suitors for Hart.

Andrew Surman from Southampton would be a cracking signing but it is a long way from the South Coast so i'd expect he would find a club in London.
Perhaps it would be worth looking at the young lad Delph from Leeds if they fail to get promoted as an alternative.

Similarly, i think we should be taking a good look at Jermaine Beckford to see if this kid can make the step up. He has scored very regularly over recent seasons and seems to possess many of the qualities needed to succeed at a higher level.

2 of Ross McCormack/Kris Commons/Fabian Delph/Jason Koumas/Chris Brunt
At least one striker-possibly Beckford
At least one centre half-possibly Turner

How settled is Gary Cahill at Bolton? Just a thought. I often question the sense in cherry-picking from relegated sides.

Looking at teams that may well go down should be a priority.

West Brom - Scott Carson, Roman Bednar
Boro' - Pogatetz, Huth, Arca, Wheater
Newcastle - Nolan, Butt, Andy Carroll
Blackburn - Stephen Warnock, Steven Reid, Mokoena, Jason Roberts
Pompey - David James, Hreidasson, Nugent,
Stoke - BEATTIE, Olofinjana, Etherington
Sunderland - Craig Gordon, Kieran Richardson, Kenwyne Jones, Anton Ferdinand
Hull - Turner, Geovanni, Bullard

With my poisitions that I think we need to improve on....

2 Strikers, Left midfielder, Centre midfielder, 1/2 Centre backs, left back and a goalkeeper.

With that in view I'd go for.... (out of the ones I've chosen)

Scott Carson GK,
Stephen Warnock LB,
Wheater/Turner CB,
Etherington LM,
Olofinjana CM
Beattie/Roberts CF

Does that mean "Premiership class" as in a proven 15-plus scorer or merely players who have played in the Premiership? Do we spend money to buy a proven scorer, who will be expensive and want a shitload of wages, or do we speculate and go cheaper? Because proven Premiership players aren't cheap, and those who are currently at clubs in the arse-end of the division aren't doing that well at the moment.
I don't really have the answers, just more dilemmas.:D

Benni Mccarthy?
I reckon we could get him for 3M tops?

Maybe cheaper?

He's not that young anymore either. You could say the same about Beattie, but he was scoring goals at the time:D

I wouldn't look at Fryatt, Beckford or from League One.

Fryatt's banging them in in League one, and he couldn't get a goal in the Championship never mind higher.

Turner at Hull is a good shout, and I think a couple of the Middlesbrough lads would be good to bring in if they go down.

Alot depends on who may be available on free's or have release clauses in their contract for relegation.

Well we need to draft in some top pro's like Li Tie, Ahmed Fathi and the mighty Mikele Leigertwood.

Otherwise we would be screwed.
