It's hard to find much to argue about at the moment, so this is no more than an explanation of my membership of the 'avoiding-relegationers' club, though I can't remember whether I have posted anything on the subject. It is easy for fans to get carried away, and if expectations get high, then reaction to failures become exaggerated, and can create a negative atmosphere when things don't go perfectly. Most managers adopt the one game at a time approach, and I think Wilder last year expressed a view of 'first avoid relegation, then guarantee top-half finish, guarantee play-offs, guararantee autos, guarantee winning league, get 100 points'. One step at a time, and a repeat of last year would do nicely. Better not to put too much pressure on at once (but it is good for us as fans to dream). I don't feel the need to apologise, and it certainly has nothing to do with the lot from S6, and is not disrespectful to anyone at the club. What I will apologise for is the fact that after the years of failure, I still can't get it into my head that we might, just might, have something to be optimistic about. At each kick-off, the feeling of optimism evaporates; I'll keep trying. On the prediction thread I went for 5th and got pelters. On reflection though, I must stop being so pessimistic. Top three now folks.
In addition, I trust the avoiding-relegationers will post their grovelling apologies at being so disrespectful to our club. Anyone with half a brain could see we were better than that going into this season. Time to stop listening to the hype from across the city and believing what's in front of your eyes instead.
