If the Blades get to the play off final it will leave me in a tricky position

My missus is heavily pregnant and there is a very good chance the baby could arrive at some point pretty close to the play off final.

Do i go to the match and risk missing the birth of my first child, or do i stay at home and miss what could be a potentially great day but if the baby comes i get to see the birth of my first child.

As you can probably tell, i am keener than most for us to nail automatic promotion

Hahaha... firstly, congratulations :)

Secondly, one way or another, we might not get to the play off final... if the Blades are going to let us down, you know they're gonna do it spectacularly. Lose on Sunday and not get to the Final would be about right.

For me, as a girlie (and I say this because I think the advice the young lads give will be wildly different), I think seeing the birth of your child would be the priority. Imagine the kid hearing when it's older that you weren't there because you'd bobbied off to London to see the match... especially if he/she ends up not being into football :D

Saying that, first babies are sometimes a bit reluctant to make their way into the world... so depending on how close the due date is to the play off final and whether it's before or after you might be alright to risk it. A mad dash up the M1 could see you home in three hours.

What does your missus say? She might quite like the idea of moral support over the phone and the sounds of thousands of Blades cheering her on! :D

Many congratulations to you and your missus.

I assume this post is tonge in cheek; but if it's your missus first child too then the chances are the labour will last long enough to give you time to take in the game, bask in the glory of our success and then steadily make your way back up north and to the maternity ward in plenty of time to hand out cigars and pat yourself on the back :)

My honest stance; i wouldn't have missed the birth of either of my two children for anything in the world - you can always take your radio into the delivery room :)

I wouldn't worry yourself anyway, by the time the play-off final rolls around and your wee baby arrives; the blades will already be a prermiership team.

BELIEVE!

Congratulations. its a no brainer for me, you have to be with your wife, she will need your suport far more than your footballl team do and the birth of your first child will undoubtedly be the best moment of your life.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago, important meeting in London 2 days after due date of first child, no question you MUST be there OK its still fresh in my mind the newest Blade on the block is just over 2 weeks old and he's brilliant.

This was a quickish labour and she had a good seven hours of huffing and puffing, more than enough time to get from nearly anywhere. Get your ticket, if there's any sign I'm sure there will be somebody who will happily take your seat.

Mine was born bank holiday monday, I missed the forrest game, from what i heard missed nothing.

Having said all that, the Blades are gonna do it sunday, and now you better believe it!

Good luck

Congrats on the iminient arrival.

If you want my advice, which being as youve posted this you do, and working on the assumption that we are resigned to the playoffs, which we arent as we are gonna go up on sunday.

If i were you i would head to wembley. Childbirth can take hours, in which you would have enough time to head down, watch us promoted and get back before anything of any importance has happened.

I wasnt around for the birth of my daughter, and i dont regret it at all :D

First of all congratulations. Hope everything goes well.

Speaking as someone who witnessed the birth of both my kids you absolutely have to be there. If its close to the wire you have to give the match a miss. You might not get back in time. A friend of Mrs BB had her baby at the bottom of the stairs whilst on the phone to Jessops to say she had a funny feeling her contractions had started:)

Alternatively, the week before the potential play-off final you could take her out for an Indian (Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi should be the weapon of choice and lashings of lime pickle on the poppadums), then go home, stick some Barry White on and do what you did so expertly 8 and a bit months ago. Little blighter'll pop out like an eel on a greased slide.:D

If you miss the play off final and United win, don't worry, we win these big matches all the time. There'll be another one along in 50 years or so.:D

Seriously, all the best whatever you decide and if you go to the match and miss the birth at least you won't have to join the waiting list for the snip. Your missus will do it for free when you get back.:D

How many more promotions could you see? How many first births can you be at?
Mind you, when Small SV arrived 'twas like somebody had emptied a butcher's dustbin all over the floor. I'd rather have been at the match. Or in a war. Or fighting off a big, fuck-off shark.
Until I held my daughter in my arms for the first time, her little eyes looked deeply into mine and my heart melted. Bugger the football.

A chance of seeing united win a playoff final for once or see a kid pop out...

The latter i can look up on the net!
