Wow. Saw similar article about how we pay the least in the whole EPL.

Amazing stat in my opinion and demonstrates the huge gap between player price/salary/success.

It’s a pretty meaningless table, Norwich are in 4th!

That doesn’t make it meaningless, it highlights relative value for money.

The most glaring thing for me is that we’re three times better value than anybody else in the league. I could imagine that our relatively low wages will become a problem at contract negotiation time. Norwich aside, virtually everybody else has an average at least three times ours.

But we knew that already, we’re one of the lowest payers in the division and we’re punching well above our weight.

Our wage bill will no doubt increase next season and we’ll be getting less value for money as per the criteria of this table. Does that mean we’re going backwards?

I suspect that the wages quoted will be for last years accounts which will be from our first/second season in the Championship. I can’t imagine anyone will have access to this years payroll details. If those figures are true I would expect quite a few transfer requests to be submitted from our players, I doubt this will happen.

I wonder if United are basing their pay structure on big bonuses for higher league position rather than a larger basic salary?

This would make sense. I’ve seen somewhere that £10m will be split between the players just for staying up.

I would imagine there’ll be more for each position up the league ladder and who knows how much for finishing in a european slot.

Agreed this is a nonsense, either comparing what we paid in the Champtionship last year to what clubs paid in the Premier, or guessing what we might be paying the new players.

I'd have no issue giving 50k a week to the regular first 11 if we stay up. New contracts all round.

Let's hope John Egan doesn't look at Evertons average wage compared to ours. Let's be honest, if you were in his situation what would you do given the choice?
I am a Blade through and through but if i were him i would do what's best for my childrens future. How they justify those wages though is mind bogglingly boggling.

I agree with Derf.

That table looks bad if you are a footballing employee of our club.

When other clubs come knocking it may be very difficult for our loyal players to turn down moves away to secure financial security, after all it is a relatively short career.
