The Blades Championship fixture at Hillsborough has been put back one day to Sunday 18th April and will kick-off earlier than normal at 1pm.

The decision has been made on police advice on safety grounds.

United won the first encounter of the season at Bramall Lane which was a Friday night fixture live in SKY television back in September.

Sorry Foxy, you'll have to find something else to do on your birthday.

and what was the police advice?

I can only imagine...

Wait until Sunday so everyone who wants to drink can go out and get totally shit-faced on Saturday night, top up on Sunday morning and then they'll really be ready to ruck.

Then stand back with truncheons at the ready for target practice.

Coppers can probably claim overtime on a Sunday
It's overtime for them no matter what day or time it's played. No police on match duty are taken off other duties - they are all working on what would be their time off and so are all on overtime. That's why you see so many fat ones - they are the desk pilots grabbing the extra money. Lots of "office" coppers work matches. It's easy money most of the time.

And they get to be tossers and abuse the power.

"Sorry we are an incompetant bunch of tossers and can't be expected to do our job on a Saturday afternoon".

Wankers!

I hope the reason is: "We hate that drivel creating prick Strapon, so lets move the game to a Sunday and that way we'll have to charge him extra!"

Or perhaps they know this is the day that the Blades relegate the piggy bastards and the rozzers expect even more trouble than normal? Way things are going it could happen so fingers crossed.

What? Who's trying to be "hard"?

If the Police cannot allow a Sheffield derby on a Saturday afternoon then they are not fit to do their job.
Did the police in the Seventies insist (or even advise) that games couldn't take place at their scheduled times despite the fact that nearly every game had some form of violence attached to it? No, of course they didn't. They got on with the job.

oooh. Lets all slag coppers off! How hard are you lot.

Erm... I've heard coppers slagging the top bosses off because they hadn't got a clue about how to organise the force to Police a Sheffield derby.

Were they being "hard" too?

Lets hope we stuff them & get them relegated!!

Extra added spice now too with the WC debarcle added!

Can we ban Strappon from BL? :D

right. lets have a go at the coppers rather then the knobheads trying to create the trouble. Some of you guys make me laugh with the "don't treat all football fans the same, we aren't all trying to cause trouble" then lump ALL coppers together with the abusing power and doing it for extra money on over time crap. Most of the coppers I've met would rather be at the match having a day out on their scheduled day off, rather than having their rest days cancelled to try to seperate sets of knuckle draggers. How much would they have to pay YOU, not only to miss the match, but to be in the middle of that crap?

I wasn't slagging coppers off. Far from it - my Dad was a copper with South Yorkshire Police for thirty years, and one of my brothers is a detective based in Rotherham. A few forum members may have seen him with me occasionally outside the Lion or at matches. I was stating that coppers on match duty aren't pulled from other duties, so they are still sufficient number for catching muggers, rapists, burglars and evil motorists. The majority of football matches are not played during office hours, and so there are a lot of police officers on match duties that are working outside their normal hours, and often sacrificing a day off. Would people suggest that somebody entitled to the overtime according to the terms of their contract of employment shouldn't get it, just because they are a police officer?

If it wasn't for the dickheads who like to cause grief there wouldn't need to be the number of police on duty that there is. The match will have been moved because there will be less opportunity for said dickheads to drink themselves silly at one than at three. Yes, some will manage it, but moving matches to avoid trouble does work.

Let's be reight, coppers can be nobs. See after the play off final. Not all are, but a good few are.

Sky might come along yet and move the game again. Power to the police eh!

How many coppers did you have dealings with after the playoff final? I bet it wasn't many. Two? Four? Eight hundred? That's like saying all ginners can be nobs. Not all are, but a good few are.;)

Why blame the Police over the forty year-old morons who can't help but act like 12 year-old tossers on a match-day?
