They made Hull and Barnsley look like Real and Barca and they had been the two worst teams to visit before today.

Over the years I have had a lot of time for Sunderland but they were utter gash today. Nailed on to be relegated on that showing unless they buy well in the JTW.

Mate I never ever call anyone out on grandma or speeeling but I can't help myself with a classic fail like yours. :D
Oh kinell, IT WASN'T A F*****G MISTA.... Oh bollocks to it.
For those who get my humour, thank you.
For those who don't, I'll like you're posts anyway as it's Christmas.
NOW LEAVE ME ALONE!! ;)

Um, the correct term is 'hoist with your own petard', a petard being an explosive device used to blow holes in doors and walls.

Shakespeare's Hamlet has the King of Denmark apply it in letters to the King of England:

"There's letters seal'd: and verily pigfellows,
Whom I loathe as but blood in stools,
They bear the rid'cule; they must yet be slain
on the day of fools and bounc'ry. Let it work;
For 'tis the sport to have the swine
Hoist with his own petar; and 't shall go forn'cate
But I will delve one yard below their farmes
And they shal't fall: O, 'tis most sweet,
When both bird and cutlass directly meet."

"Hoisted" is actually an alternative usage.

Interesting thing is, they didn't look like a team of quality players that aren't gelling, they look like a team of really poor players. The number of basic technical mistakes they made under no pressure today was shocking. Massive credit to the Sunderland fans still turning out in numbers to watch that shower.

Agreed, I loved the way we got back to that pressure game again today, it's been missing recently for me. Did not notice that a player of O'Shea's supposed quality was on the pitch tbf.

I can't remember the last time I saw a team so utterly devoid of any character whatsoever. It was like watching the Adkins side multiplied.
Something seriously wrong with the entire culture within that team.
The away fans stayed behind to give them a round of fucks, and I don't blame them one bit.

I read a few things last season about player behaviour there, some of the mad stuff in the contracts...they really are in the shit.

my mate remarked they looked like 11 blokes that turned up in Graves Park for a game and got handed a shirt each

It was unnecessary for me to feel frustrated watching them play, but it brought back the trauma of the Adkins era where we would perform like they did today and then get told after, by the bronze, barmy gobshite himself, that there were positives.

I've only seen the highlights on Sky but Stearman and Baldock's goals gave the impression that Coleman had made sure his players spent Xmas carefully studying our defending from the Villa game... so they could replicate it today.

Incredible that they were amongst the favourites for promotion. In fact looking at all the relegated sides reallly emphasises that the gap between championship and prem isn't that huge at all.

Sunderland were laughable. Often literally, especially the clown of a number 3 who couldn't even cheat without failing spectacularly.
