I think he showed balls to even pick up the phone, most in his position wouldn't dream of it. I am fed up being in league 1 but we can't make clubs sell their players, maybe they are tired of adding numbers just to appease the fans. Quality over quantity from now on, makes sense to me
I agree about bringing in quality rather than quantity. However, we have gone from bringing in quantity rather than quality to bringing in neither.

As for Phipps, he is a senior Board member so picking up the phone is the least he should do after yesterday's shambles. Then again, he talks shite so it doesn't really help.

I haven't said he's not intelligent, and he does seem a nice bloke. I just don't understand how someone in a professional position and who is a trained lawyer can come across like that. It's almost cringeworthy listening to him because you're just wishing he'd spit it out without resorting to saying 'uuhhmm' five times a sentence.

Its because he has no real truthful answers and is uncomfortable with the half truths he is having to peddle. If you are decent lawyer who has been brought up to at least try and tell the truth because it is part of your job, training and ethical code (if not your legal duty as in this country), you are going to Uuhhmm many times per sentence to ensure your words are "accurate" in the sense that you do not lie. Whether that is the absolute truth is a completely different matter. As some famous politician once said, he was "economical with the actualite".

I think its harsh to say he talks shite. Yes he puts a positive spin on it, that some will just say spin. but I truly believe that Jim was trying to say he understands our frustrations that basically stem from over spending during Clough's tenure. Where I don't agree with him is that we now have to wait until the transfer window in 2017 to sort it. Surely that's only the case if you the board are unable to spend significant monies in the window just gone and the one coming this summer, and for that matter the summer one in 2015. If we were really serious we could have paid off a few of them in the summer rather than now and therefore stay beneath the 60% cap on wages and then invest in the team as is required. Its expensive doing it that way but surely we could have added two or three this window, because we've saved money on the wage bill for Alcock, Higdon, Khan, Wallace, Freeman and Dimaio and have the money from the Murphy sale. Yes we are losing money, that's clear, but he Prince and McCabe know that in this league, its not profitable, hence we need the investment to get out of it.

I blame Radio Sheffield for the sound quality, they had time to call him back and try to get a decent line. Sounds like Jim was speaking from his mobile from Riyadh. He also sounds like he is still a bit under the weather. I like him, and think he's a genuine bloke. Basically he's saying that we had targets in this transfer window but for one reason or another they didn't come off. He sounded a bit downbeat and disappointed. He also denied that there was a rift between our two owners. "I totally share (the fans') frustration that we didn't get our targets" he said."There are things we need to do better and we will leave it up to the professionals to address these deficiencies". Dunno if he was referring to our negotiations in the transfer market, but could have been.

I expect we'll get at least one in on loan, but doubt whether we'll be able to strengthen enough to comfortably make the play-offs.

Incidentally have we ever qualified for the Play Offs in 6th?

Are we the only football club in the solar system that has trouble spending money?

I like the fact that the board has someone who communicates with the fans - that's where it ends. I haven't the foggiest idea what the board's vision for SUFC is, and even less how they hope to achieve this vision. This leads me to the conclusion that Jim Phipps has singularly failed as the mouthpiece of the boardroom.

No signings so we aren't stuck with them.
Loans to the end of the season but I'm not expecting much on that front, it could mean us going up.

We need a Charlton style clear out and staying down is the only way to do it.

Admitting that publicly is impossible for the club.

What's the saying ?? Just because your'e paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you - that's the one. The RS interview was appalling - the sound quality was awful, they were aware it was awful and yet instead of taking a short break and redialling the number so that people could actually hear and understand what JP was saying (I've listened to it again and I still haven't got a clue of half of what he said and I'm probably guessing the rest) they carried on with the excuse that they wanted to make sure people heard Phipps. And that awful pig-lover doing the interview. God,I hate his voice. Seemed to me they did everything they could to make the club sound as bad and unprofessional as they could.

I captured this photo, just before the interview.

Radio Pig and the Piggy Star should realise that subtlety should be used whilst Rome is already burning and the natives are restless. It's less obvious when the club's in calmer waters.

Truth is he's right! We are in a mess, we do need a clear out of high paid underperforming and average players and it will take time.

What's annoying it's the current regime that's got us in this mess. When HRH et al came in we were in the position to invest in players and management to walk the league. However, if my memory serves me well he came in the day after the window closed (contrived or coincidence?) and we went on a journey of unaccountable management debacles, poor scouting, questionable buying, personality clashing and uncontrolled egos fuelled by a modicum of success in the cup competitions. But all that was ignored by many because of the mystique that surrounded the mythical name of the house of Clough, a point they now labour when blame is being apportioned.

I believe it was all well meant and they naively thought our traditions, support etc and a bit of Yankee fist bumping would get us to the PL and rich returns in a few years.

There is a plan, not a palatable one that Jim has put out there and it appears we are back where we started with promotion two years away and the PL in 5 years. Hope they've factored in that football is evolving quickly and the Championship is the new PL in terms of talent and the funds required to get there and stay there because if they think they can do it on the cheap they are wrong. Look at the giant clubs above us Walsall and Gillingham, they were able to hang on to their star players and refuse £2 bids, hope they've got the stomach for the ride!

...don't want to piss on yer chips or owt but this league is pretty poor...we could still go up you know! :o

What standard of players do you expect to bring in, if we don't go up? We are struggling to bring in better players than we have got because we are in League 1. I seriously can't get my breath that fans think it would be better to stay in this division. One minute everyone is kicking off because we've spent 5 years in the division, the next we want to stay for another year. FFS!

This was exactly my point on another thread but you put it much better, cheers!

Also, why can't that twat McCabe pick up the phone instead of making Phippsy take all the flack. Will RS make this happen, will they hellers like.

My question would be,if Lee Turnbull, head of recruitment, can't find any players that would improve our squad then he should go now!
This is an ongoing process at every club be it Barcelona or Whitby Town, always looking to improve.

He did find players to improve our squad, but for various reasons - could be fees, wages, a reluctance to uproot to Sheffield, or a reluctance to drop down a division - said players didn't sign. The question is whether we should have identified 2nd or 3rd choices. Maybe we did, and they fell through as well. As people have said, there's no point in signing players for the sake of it if they are no better than those we have.

Phipps, KM etc want promotion just as much as we do. They don't have a hidden agenda to keep us in L1 while stripping the club's assets and milking it dry, as some people seem to be implying.

That's as may be but it's rather like my saying I want to live to be 104 whilst on a constant diet of Woodbines, butties and benzedrine and reaching for the remote represents the daily high point of calorific expenditure. Ain't gonna happen.

Too right Wizardry, like Phipps or not...and to be fair his Americanisms are never going to go down well in Sheffield when we are underperforming...when is the real architect of our predicament going to articulate the way forward. Where the @@@@ is McCabe ?

OK - in the absence of WHF here is what I managed to bullet point - took me nearly three hours (replaying and replaying to try and make stuff out so apologies if I got any of this wrong). RS questions in a piggy blue. JB in red.

Jim thanks for joining us – a lot of Sheffield United fans are getting in touch with the show tonight, getting in touch on social media. They are very unhappy that the team has not been active in the JTW. What would you like to say to the Blades fans tonight?

· Had hundreds maybe a thousand messages today. Has read through various forums.

· We hear you loud and clear.
(We didn’t hear JP loud and clear though thanks to RS)

· Disappointed in not getting our targets in the transfer window.

· Want to be in a spot that’s more confidence inspiring than the one we are in.

· This isn’t exactly the outcome we wanted.

· I think for those that assume it’s the end of the world that’s taking it a little too far.

· We can get to where we want to go but from here it’s going to take some effort.

· We’ll hear from the gaffer, what he has to say, this week and I am sure that we’ll all try to come together at the club to respond to our circumstances

· The furthest thing from our minds is to fob the fans off .
( Interrupted by RS)

Jim sorry to interrupt, one of the things that the fans have asked us about, look I’ve just had a tweet here from James, and he says that it was said that the Jamie Murphy would be re-invested and he says that it hasn’t. He says that this is a lie and a lot of Sheffield United fans are asking why hasn’t the Jamie Murphy money been spent on new players this window.

· I said the money from that transaction would be used in first team football, that’s where it is, that’s where it will be. It’s not a lie.

· We did try to do transactions this window. We didn’t get our targets. That’s quite obvious. That’s what we are all upset about.

· There’s no evidence of a lie, there is no certainly intention to deceive, it wasn’t a false statement. It’s not a false statement now.

· The money will be used on first team football. Other resources were available also to serve in this window. We just didn’t get our targets.

· And that’s not good. Unintelligible but think it was (Especially for those ????) who do that part of the work.

On that point we had a question from Simon who is a Blade and he wants to know essentially who does Nigel Adkins work with now to complete transfers, you know, in the past it was Nigel Adkins with Mal Brannigan , before that Nigel Clough with Mal Brannigan. Who does Nigel Adkins go to and say these are the players I want and who ultimately makes the final decision as to whether those players will be signed.

· Well it’s in press release we made - the personnel changes. We talked about the people involved there. That’s been true since then.

· We have been working to build a Technical Board that provides support.

· Certainly we are not as far along that development as we want to be. More progress needs to be made this month.

Is the communication at the club since those changes, is it good? Would you describe it, are people working well together?

· Oh yes. It’s not an issue in the slightest.

· They are working cohesively as a team.

· The people who are involved in the day to day know their jobs well and are doing them well.

In the statement that you put out it did say that promotion was imperative towards the end and when the club didn’t win promotion last season ultimately there was a managerial change. Is the club thinking more long term now, is that what we need to read from this JTW. Whatever happens this year are you going to be building for the long term with NA?

· I don’t think that is even a question

· We can’t be talking about changes there.

· We have so much work to do to get to where we want to be.

· Far from the finished product yet.

Have Kevin MCcabe and the Prince fallen out. Are you all still communicating as you need to :

· No. It’s absolutely fine. I have answered that several times today.

Where is the game-changing money, who runs the club and why does the club build the fans up for a fall.

· People have high expectations. We don’t set out to raise people’s expectations.

· We try to be careful about what we say and yet sometimes this is interpreted as not saying enough. Sometimes it’s twisted and turned into somewhat grander expectations than I had wanted.

· We are committed to taking the club up and investing sensibly and we have tried to do that.

· In the summer we brought in Billy Sharp and others, in the window before that Done and Brayford.

· Tried to do things that make sense

· We haven’t got everything right.

· We haven’t got to where we want to be for the amount of time and money put in.

· Nothing for it but to re-double our efforts, to build our understanding of things that need improving and to put our trust in those who we think can do the job.

· Board fully supports NA.

· Nigel knows where he wants to take the club

· Board supports the vision

· Shares supporters’ frustration that we aren’t in the right spot and not making progress we should be making.

· But we move forward, sharply, crisply and don’t give into the emotional part of not having what we want.

· There are things that we need to do better. Some things for some time. I am not happy we haven’t been able to deal with them.

· There are some positives, some of the results since December with a settled side have gotten better. Players starting to play together.

· Fully behind the gaffer.
