Philip Billing

He’s only just turned 29 in June so no problem with paying that for his age.

Town fans at work this morning reckon he was great for their promotion season and 1st year in Prem for them but lost interest & was lazy 2nd half of relegation season - which to be fair is understandable as they were pretty much relegated by end of January.

View from them is that he’d be a good player at Championship level - but with a few decent players around him.

Oh I like him a lot as a player. It's just too much money for a 29 year old for a team with limited funds, 5 incomings needed and a week and a half to do it.
How does anyone know how much we can afford though mate? I mean I know we’ve been very slow or at least it seems to be slow to react to any situation in the market but ultimately nobody knows what the crack is with this board, it just looks shite because of what’s gone off up to now.

Don't see us buying him in champ so presume this would be the last loan slot. Would need another player to cover the forward positions as hinted at on here, but we get all that we are linked with plus the forward player then I would suggest we look really strong

I think if we had £8.5m to spend on an asset with no resale value, we wouldn't have spent 2 months shopping in Sweden and Bulgaria.

I’d tend to agree but we haven’t got a clue who this board or who we as a club are even after. I know we have our opinions on who we should get but I don’t think our board do anything remotely like we’ve been used too.

Sure. I think the key to sustainability is buying resalable players where you can. We can't keep spending big money on players that will inevitable leave on a free transfer in 3 years time. Smart clubs buy young, sell high, repeat.

You mean like.... Souza, Anel, Brewster and half a dozen loan players all were on high salaries?
No, I don't mean in terms of plain finances. I mean place in the team.

Who do we drop to get Billing in the team? Someone has to be left out and I don't think the one that would be dropped would be interested in being a bit-part player.

How is Lucas Badonde getting all this info on us?
He works for Sky sports in Italy for their transfer team, so doing his job well i guess. Maybe the traction from our fan base following the Godfrey new has encouraged him to dig deeper into our activity. I imagine in the modern world of social media that follows add weight to your progression?

Think it would be Peck that gives way.
Agreed and the rumblings have been that he's open to moving. Maybe we've had a decent offer and this would be the replacement? Seems to be an odd area of focus given we have much more pressing needs in other areas.

Let’s see how it all plays out, I refuse to believe we don’t have substantial funds available when needed. Buying young players for decent mowlah doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get you’re money back too, we know with players like Billling he’ll be very influential right now and we desperately need it.

Get a couple of things right and everyone on twatter is in your mentions asking for further updates giving him more clicks and traction. Doesn’t bother me aslong as he is right

You may be right. It could well be the board has learnt that get players in before releasing them.

Let's hope so anyway.

Arsenal are paying £67M for a lad 2 years younger. 29 is no longer worry age in players. Diet, fitness etc is so much better, players are playing much longer now so 8-10M for a player who would be in our top 3 players in our squad who could give us the support we need to get promoted
Agree he should hopefully have a few good years ahead of him, injuries permitting. However, we seem intent on operating a player trading system where any serious transfer fees are committed to younger players with a high ceiling giving our owners the prospect of selling for a decent profit down the line. Billing wouldn’t fit that model and if we don’t go up we’d be left with a 30 year old on big money with a declining value.

Don’t get me wrong, I think he would be a great signing, I just don’t see it happening unfortunately. £8.5m to us in the final year of our parachute payments is a lot more significant than £67m is to Arsenal with all their resources.

Any fu(ker....we are a serious soft touch at present. Putting Billing in front of our back 4 at CDM would be a game charger. Hes solid in the tackle, can get forward and hes tall. Did you see our midfield at Swansea?

Id drop Peck for starters but more likely hed initially play instead of Soumare whilst he gets up to speed. Billing would make a hell of a difference to our midfield.

Absolutely zero idea if this is true, but a huge emphatic YES if it is.

Reminder for those perhaps unaware, but Billing was part of the Napoli squad that won Serie A last season. Even scored to earn them a draw against Inter Milan in one of his first appearances.

If we're able to do a deal for this guy, he absolutely should be a priority.

Does anyone know why he's not part of Bournemouth's plans?
They allowed him out on loan last season, so he's not been favoured for a while.

Likely just their manager wanting a different "type" of player to him. Probably just a case of him coming up short in certain aspects compared to their other options
