First half was very interesting, second half when he brought in the bored looking Staton not so much. Just watching the the difference between Mitchell and Staton when the attention isn't on them tells you everything you need to know about their respective characters.

Lose the next 2 games and the knives will be out, no room for failure with our fans.
I don't think so there has been a change for the better down at the lane, just about everyone can see we have a manager who knows what he is doing. He has built up more good will credits in the months he has been here than the two Nigels put together managed in years. We aren't going to win every game but we are going in the right direction.

If I was running a business in South Yorkshire I'd put my last £ on Mitchell, Wilder, Knill.

Football is not all about South Yorkshire though.

If the football world ended at L1 and L2 I'd stake my mortgage on all of them. It's not though.

Football is a global game. Thing is I would like to swim or sink with the South Yorkshire way ( yes Knill qualifies through residence!) I'd love to see more Academy players in our teams, not just the 'stars' but more the bread and butter. Sell the young 'stars' for working capital until we can afford to keep them, nothing wrong with that in fact it's an obvious strategy.

Something big is happening. Give Wilder a 10 year contract NOW. 'Sink or swim' with a thorough professional, show him we believe in him, back him and then let the Premier League get used to the 'South Yorkshire Way". We know it makes sense and will happen one day. Besides Wednesday have gone a different route and it is 'unproven' in Sheffield or anywhere in fact apart from at big clubs. We need to do something different. Reward Wilder NOW.

Ten years is equivalent to 460 league games after a CW reign of just 27 games??? hmmm
I am reminded of this
One of the few things I agreed with Enoch Powell was this
All political lives, unless they are cut off in midstream at a happy juncture, end in failure, because that is the nature of politics and of human affairs.

Substitute politics for football managerment
.
As always for football fans win one and we are going to piss the league and be Barcelona lose two and we are Bradford Park Avenue.

I too am really excited by CW perhaps more so than any manager since Ian Porterfield , he has achieved amazing things so far, many of the signs going forward look really good, but I'm long enough in the tooth as I'm sure you are too Woodwardfan to realise things can change very quickly.

As the old adage from financial investments always warn
Past performance may not be indicative of future results..

Boom or bust, t'was always thus.

Win a few games and you are a god.

Lose a few and you are nothing.

Can we just forget the 10 year contract nonsense and just concentrate on getting promoted?

OK then, fair enough.

Remember Allardyce getting a 10 year contract at Bolton many years ago and I thought it was a way of trusting the man at the time, giving him confidence to build for the future and also warding off any clubs who might fancy him once he got things moving. Allardyce was a young man at the time and it worked well for Bolton.

Wilder is not a young man, rather an experienced manager and has a growing reputation in the game. He is a blade and would commit I'm sure. Maybe 'eggs in one basket' but think about how we have scrambled around for a manager at times and what a lottery it is finding an average one never mind an achiever which Wilder has become at two clubs. Worth protecting our interests and giving him and Knill a good wage for 10 years and power to build the recovery.

Such a contract has a big value should a big club insist on buying them from us but I must admit I don't think Wilder's style would fit a really big club somehow. Having gone through the past 8 years I personally would be happy to 'sink or swim' with Wilder for the forseeable future. He might not prove to be a worldbeater but he would leave us far better off in 10 years than when he arrived last summer.

Take your point though Cocoa.

I think you are getting carried away with this Wilder/10 years thing.
He has done well in this division for us and I am really pleased with this appointment...for now.
But ten years is a big slice of football and no one know how it can/will pan out.
No chairman would be so rash as to do what you have suggested.

I remember when someone suggested giving Clough a 10 year contract. Jesus! I don't even want to think about that.

We're OK for now with Wilder but if we get promoted I'd like his contract to be extended by at least a year. I'd imagine he'll automatically get a pay rise. If it really comes down to it I'd like to think we'd offer him whatever it takes to stay until he got us to the PL.

It's still very early to make any assumptions about the future though.

The key difference is that one of them is a proper pro who knows the game; the other is a hack radio presenter whose opinion is no more valid than yours or mine (well, a lot less in my case, in fact).

Paul's tribute to Tufty was clearly genuine and couldn't have been more glowing.

Happy days ahead, Blades. Knee-jerkers, think on...

It's quite funny when they all witter on for 5 minutes about Connor Hourihane possibly signing for Wednesday. Then Mitchell chimes in "I've been told he's going to Villa"

Biggs says "Well we probably should have just asked you in the first place"

Yes. Yes you should....

OK 8 years then as a compromise. Let's make a statement.

Come on McCabe give Wilder and Knill 10 year contracts.

Great JTW, team back 'at it', loads of options on the bench.

At last we can identify and attract good players. At last the players are motivated and have great spirit.

Next season in the Championship the 'solidarity' payment is £5m. In League 1 it's £1m. On top of that we will be on TV more.

Imagine what Wilder will do with the bigger budget. I suspect he'll still shop mostly in L1 and L2 for permanent signings and higher for loanees.

We need Wilder over the coming years. Pay him well and ward off bigger clubs. Do it now!!

Interesting character Paul Mitchell, his non playing career has been spent in similar environments to that of Chris Wilder and his Sheffield accent was a joy to behold on last night's Biggs offering.
He had an excellent poker face as Rob Station was giving his take on some of the local happenings, no nods of agreement or clues to whether he agreed or not.
Spoke plainly and gave absolutely fuck all away other than categorically stating he thought Hourihane would end up at Villa this window.
As I remember him, he was a no nonsense physical centre back with plenty to say for himself on the field (even as a youngster he was very vocal). I played against him at the arse end of my playing days as he was just starting out in the man's game.
Though I'd never met him he knew my name and was in my earhole all the 90 mins and I finally emerged from his pocket in time for the post match shower and drink.
I reckon we're in good hands all the way through the football management team. Let's hope it remains so for a few years yet.
He was my lads first coach when he was a kid ,despite being the Worksop manager he would come and coach the kids on a Friday night on Valley Rd ,I learnt quite a bit myself ,his appetite for football was huge and genuinely a nice bloke. I asked Bradders brother about him as he finished his career at Worksop and he says hes a fantastic coach with great knowledge and actually put another 2 years on Darrens career. Big character with a great reputation ,good to have him I reckon.
