Paul Heaton - Concert at the Lane

What an absolutely fantastic night to round off the weekend. I had a really good day, caught up with a few people, drank a lot of beer and had a really good time. I thought Heaton was magnificent and Rianne Downey was fantastic too. The one thing I did notice is that even though the organisation might not have been the best. Especially with the bar queues but for all its quirks and foibles the old place pulls on my heartstrings like nowhere else.

I darent bring these up anymore, but do we know the attendance? I'd guess 33k? Same as we took to Wembley

Great gig, rain held off, South Stand was rammed but you could get wristbands and go on the pitch then use the bars and bogs on Cherry St side of the kop that weren't too bad. The Lane is actually a decent music venue apart from the fact that you're going to get soaked if it rains. Bar prices were taking the piss a bit and the choice was very poor. No soft drinks apart from water. No wine. Shit choice of beer. Luckily we got a few of our own in so I only visited the bar once.
They had wine at the fanzone bar

I hope they have more gigs at BDTBL and they give people training how to a) read their ticket and b) how to use a fucking QR code reader
There was 2 women who decided to open their Ticketmaster app inside the turnstile. Wouldn't load.
They got face on and started arguing with everyone behind in the queue when someone suggested they should come back out and search for the tickets.

They stood in there searching for a good 3-4 mins before heeding the previous advice to come out and let others in. Stupid twats

To be fair phone connectivity around the lame on matchdays is poor , why I still have a card entry .
I couldn't get to the ticket wallet whilst in the queue, thankfully one of the stewards hot spotted my phone from his and got us in no problem.
They'll always be folks who are awkward but good stewarding and helping folks goes a long way .

Why do people wait until they reach the turnstiles before downloading tickets. All ticket websites tell you to do it before reaching the venue.

As to the concert. I must admit I was a bit down after the match, but Paul and Rhian really lifted the gloom. First saw the Housemartins in 1987 and must have seen the various PH incarnations 20 plus times since. Last night was one of the best.

Got to agree about the queues for toilets and beer which were bad. BDTBL is a great venue though. We carry on regardless and hope that we have an Happy Hour again and again in the near future.

The stewards for the south stand were telling people not to have their qr code open until you got to the turnstile. Not sure why? My husband closed his down as he was told and then couldn't log back in, the ticket disappeared. We ended up in the ticket office and missed the Lighening Seeds. Absolutely loved the rest of the night though, it was amazing

As a bonus we did end up with a good old fashioned paper ticket though!

There were clear instructions in the email I received. Download the tickets beforehand into the wallet on your phone.
This can be accessed without Internet access then.
I had tickets for 3 people in my wallet. All 3 in in about 20 seconds
It's not fecking rocket science is it?

I thought the Lightning Seeds were OK tbh but wasn't impressed with Shed ( Shit Seven) as the are now reffered to and tbh, I'd never heard of them prior to lastnights gig 🫣
So basing a judgement on a short supporting set where the lead singer was struggling a bit due to illness?

Lightning Seeds are absolute gash tbh. That judgement has been made after many years of having their banal drivel shoved in my ears. Not to forget their plagiaristic rip-off of a New Order guitar bit. Glad I missed them and got myself nicely settled in for the excellent Shed Seven.

Good job there's no match this week.

John Street toilets were flooded. This one bloke kept staring at the floor and asking me, 'is that piss?' 😁

Echo most other comments, fabulous night which we continued into town unexpectedly with a big group of friends.

Quite nostalgic queueing for food on West Street at 3am.

Just the tonic after Saturday.

All about opinions but I think the Lightning Seeds are getting a bit of a bad wrap. Maybe not a big stadium band tbf but I saw them at the Octagon backend of last year and loved it.

I didn't see no rift raft on west st yesterday 😁

Did he mention Blades?
He told the story of his first game with his dad, mentioned playing in Currie's testimonial, said he couldn't believe "yesterday's game" but jokingly referred to the woman's match instead...
Then listed his band by football teams, but when it came to him said "lead singer, Paul Heaton, I fucking hate football".
He was class mate.

I never know why they don’t just have people walking about with those backpacks of bottles of beer. People would snap them up rather than queuing for ages.
There's a few things they could do to improve things eg..
Pop up bottle bars and ladies portaloos in South Stand outside area.
Utilise the fan zone for again more bars and loos
Play the concert on screens in the concourse to make queuing more bearable

I thought it was a brilliant night - my only criticism was ability to access alcohol (nigh on impossible,).

Great gig and set , really enjoyed it .

Definitely need to organise better to become a venue though.. lots of blades would give it some leeway as I did , however it wasn't great in terms of sound , facilities etc .
Been going to gigs for 40 years , folk who normally go to these type of events are not your regular small venue gig goers ...
I was saw coldplay @ Bolton Wanderers

You been living under a Rock ? Stick to football pal .
Leave music to the grown ups .
Shit seven how fucking old are ya

I remember seeing him at Oldham away first game in league one getting pestered for selfies. Made me think being famous must be a fucking pain in the arse.

He seems to be pretty grounded and untouched by it all too all credit to him

Bar on the pitch at bottom of Kop was fast moving. Took me maybe 15 minutes. I got 5 beers and 3 gin and tonics, my only visit to the bar. Carrying them back to the South Stand wasn't easy.

South Stand councourse is not fit for purpose when the stand is full. Kop bars and toilet faciities are actually a bit better than SS
