Paul Heaton - Concert at the Lane

Brilliant concert but you know what, at nearly 55 years old and having been coming to the lane since 1978, tonight made me realise what a pull the ground has on me. Yesterday’s game and all that, all those years of joy and heartache and I sat there for an event that didn’t involve Utd and got quite emotional. It’s home and I hope it doesn’t change

Great gig, rain held off, South Stand was rammed but you could get wristbands and go on the pitch then use the bars and bogs on Cherry St side of the kop that weren't too bad. The Lane is actually a decent music venue apart from the fact that you're going to get soaked if it rains. Bar prices were taking the piss a bit and the choice was very poor. No soft drinks apart from water. No wine. Shit choice of beer. Luckily we got a few of our own in so I only visited the bar once.

The bars should have had 2-pint pots like other venues to reduce the trips needed. They should have got a load of portaloos in too and had them in an area outside one of the gates as the queues for the ladies were atrocious.

Also not sure whose bright idea it was to not get the parking bays shut on John Street but there were cars blocking the turnstiles.

We saw PH at Edgeley Park a few years ago and their set-up was absolutely spot-on.

I've loved it today. After yesterday I couldn't be arsed, but I'm glad I went.

Great concert, and PH was top notch.

Organisation wasn't great though. I was in SS, massive queues for the toilets, particularly ladies, and this lead to all the gangways blocking up. Bar queues massive too, with beer going off and slow bar staff.

Bit embarrassed about some of it tbh.

Great gig.
Nice long set, Rianne Downey can proper wail.
Shed Seven were great as usual but I think Rick was struggling a bit with his voice, maybe a cold or summat

I didn't see the Lightning Seeds because they're shit.

I hope they have more gigs at BDTBL and they give people training how to a) read their ticket and b) how to use a fucking QR code reader

I know exactly what you mean. The one constant in most of our lives. I’ve moved around a lot over the past 50 years but BDTBL is the one constant.

what a great night, all 3 bands were fantastic but Paul Heaton as good as he was all those years ago!
That's terrible. Why do people feel the need to invade the pitch and spoil it for everybody else? Why can't they just stay in their seats and let everybody enjoy the turn? I hope they managed to get the pitch cleared and the concert carried on without further incident.

Great gig and set , really enjoyed it .

Definitely need to organise better to become a venue though.. lots of blades would give it some leeway as I did , however it wasn't great in terms of sound , facilities etc .

Like we needed another fine. If PH's band laid into one of the support bands that's another one too. Even heard PH's manager skulked off too. Loads of fans moaning about Kop pillars too allegedly.

Excellent stuff last night.
Thought it was going to be rubbish when my phone kept showing my season ticket when scanned so took ages to get in.
Disappointed Lightning Seeds didn't do Sense and then no Dolphin by Shed Seven.
Massive queues for the bar in John Street.
Rhianne Downey just gets better. The Leadmill gig really showed how good she is and then last night I thought she was great again. She has to contend with comparisons to Brianna Corrigan and Jacqui Abbot.
The setlist was good, I saw that someone had mentioned that they were disappointed because there was no Woman in the Wall, I was disappointed when he didn't do I'll be Your Shelter (just like a shelter)
Saw one bloke nearly get a clip for shouting Sunderland are Massive as we left the pitch at the end

I've seen Paul Heaton and the South loads down the years but last night was amazing, I do wish they'd have finished with Woman In The Wall, but was pleased he did Pretenders to The Throne, a great set list overall, that Rhianna had a great voice as well.

The Sheds were great but don't think L Seeds that great live.

Overall great night

Did Lightening Seeds do that embarrassing "It's Coming Home" rendition? They did it at Co-op Live last year and it was a bit cringe worthy.

The current set up as-is at the Lane is simply not set up for concerts; we all know how long it takes at half-time to get served - couple that with all the people on the pitch coming in, and it’s no doubt the queues were as long as they were. Some bloke near me said he missed the entirety of Shed Seven in the bar queue! We went down to John Street bar straight after the Sheds finished; queuing for 15 minutes - the guy at the front of the queue literally hadn’t moved so we left it and went back to seats.

I thought the Lightning Seeds were OK tbh but wasn't impressed with Shed ( Shit Seven) as the are now reffered to and tbh, I'd never heard of them prior to lastnights gig 🫣

We got in about 6.30 and queue was ok in just.. and organised much better than match days

Went again just as She'd 7 finishing and it was crazy busy and an absolute shambles in q we were in.

Sone of staff are not trained properly. They don't work together.

Obvs at footy not everyone us drinking. At gigs I'm guessing most are.

Other that that it was a quality gig. Heaton was on top form.
