I doubt we'll ever see a United midfield as good as Coutts-Fleck-Duffy again in our lifetimes. Absolutely sublime football.
I think a combination of 3 of these
hamer.
blaster
brooks
Peck .
O'Hare
Performing in the championship not league one has the makings of a better midfield.

That midfield (replacing Coutts with Norwood) got us promoted to the Premier League...
And if Coutts hadn't had the leg break we wouldn't have spent the season looking for a replacement ( Evans etc) Norwood was the one a sublime player but if Coutts didn't have that injury who knows what would have happened. His midfield stats where head and shoulders above others in the Championship

Both legends. After an underwhelming start under Clough and Adkins everybody loved Coutts. Norwood had a very weird amount of doubters and criticisers however, never understood it, it can’t be denied Norwood took us up an extra level.
We'll never know if the same could have happened with Coutts in the side. The cruelest piece of bad luck deprived us of Coutts, and at the time of his injury he was playing superbly well.
I thought the club did well to get Norwood as a replacement for Coutts, but to my mind it was an entirely realistic possibility that if Coutts had remained a Blade he would have taken the Blades to promotion.

Coutts is one of my all time favourite Blades. We looked lost without him until we found Norwood. Both should be appreciated in their own right IMO. Comparison is the thief of joy.
