Just been on Football Heaven (in between news of Wendy's takeover, the appointment of Wendy's Director of Football, Wendy's new owner talking about Europe etc. etc.) that Paul Cook, Chesterfield manager, has been 'approached' by Portsmouth. Could be relevant to us?

It would be good for us if he did leave as Chesterfield are apparently the favourites to win the playoffs. No club wants to go into them without a manager.

How can Chesterfield be favourites for the playoffs? They'll be the outsiders surely?

So us and Chezzie are before 2 teams in the betting that have a lot more points than us over a full season? I'm very suprised at that!
They keep changing it on sky we are 3rd fav Chesterfield outsiders Swindon and my fighting for fav normal service resumed, sorry for the confusion

I know they're punching below their weight but surely he'll get a better offer than Pompey.

Paul cook always sounds like he's seconds from an asthma attack.[/QUOT

He does, either that or he needs to suck on a Locket.

Horrible scouse speech impediment apart, I like what he says in interviews and from a distance, he's done a really good job at Chessie.

I can't see any good reason why Pompey need to make their approach now and I really hope they fail.

Just depends if you mean in a good way.

Bladebri , i don't think it would be positive or good in anyway . The last thing we need as a club , never mind this season , is disruption on the management front . We've already had a lot on the team front , with negativity already . My thoughts about Clough is - your team , your building , prove how good you are , move this club forward , and finish the job you've started , with success.

Prefer to be outsiders . Anyway what does anybody know about league 1 . They must pull balls out of a hat to pass time whilst sorting premier league odds out.

They know that the league table exists and that Swindon and MK are better teams than us.

Of course, proving that over just 2 games will hopefully be difficult.

Preston or MK will have to pick themselves up off the floor for the play offs . Swindon we can beat . The dark horse to me are Chesterfield . Nothing to lose and everything to gain. Nerves and rub of the green come into it , but i really do fancy our chances this time .

Yes but wasn't it Warnock who "broke" the story? ;)

Think Warnock broke the story for political reasons over his contract wrangle that still hasn't been settled , although him and McCabe , seemed to have kissed and made up , at the blades dinner . You could say his parting shot was letting us have that CB on loan , who in a way cocked us up a bit , and yet to recover in all things CB.

Preston and mk dons odds of winning the play-offs will be slightly bigger than ours because they are not guaranteed to be in them - back either of those to win the playoffs now and you run the risk of them going up automatically and that's end of bet.

A real peculiar time for Portsmouth to make an approach , and really more peculiar that Chesterfield didn't keep it confidential in house or deny it , if released publicly by a third party .

Paul Cook , you never know , may well be instrumental in this , and if so it will be about money . No smoke without fire.

Portsmouth are a bit like us , a sleeping giant.

No positives out of this for Chesterfield , and all a bit disruptive , which can only be good for the team they meet in the play offs.

We perhaps will find out more in the 2 games left , the effect it has . Saying that they will go on and win there next 2 matches knowing our luck.

Good point HCDM. I should have put when the playoff positions are sorted we shouldn't be favourites. At this moment in time then Bladebri 's third post on this subject does have some merit.

There could be good value to be had with Preston or Mk then as prices go.
