No. It’s the Cannon that has been woeful all season and last. The Cannon who had a chance of a gimme and screwed up. The Cannon who had a speculative shot that was pretty weak , deflected past a shit Wednesday keeper.
He took the shot
It went in
You can’t take that away from him.
AND is was a goal vs the Pigs at the Sty. They are far more special than any other goal.

Yes, he’s been poor but what if he needs to play in a front two with someone like Bamford and he clicks?
He was doing the business at Stoke on a cold Tuesday night in the rain. Maybe he can have another purple patch?

With 3 game weeks we probably do need to try and give Campbell a break, but you are right, it's easy to get carried away after a win against a side that offered very little

A break? prior to yesterday he hadn't played for more than 2 weeks.

We have had a habit of coming off the international break looking lethargic even with just a few players being called up.

Saw some effort from Cannon got to be better in a two

Break might be the wrong word. He fitness needs managing.

I'm just gonna put it out there that Forest over Leeds by some distance are the club that I dislike because of their distain for Yorkshire and their mockery of the miners. I know many will say this has nothing to do with United but as a Yorkshire club we are part of their mockery. It's just football of course but I do find that Forest fans and Notts folk generally really have a problem with Yorkshire. I'm not a fan of Leeds but at least Leeds is a Yorkshire club.

For me im getting mcgoldrick vibes, mcgoldrick was getting on, he was released, he was very injury prone before he came, he was a striker who, certainly in his time with us missed some absolute sitters, but wilder used him in slightly deeper position, which meant he didn't have to be as dynamic as being played as a front man meaning less injuries, he played as hold up man and to play neat balls to the main striker. Its quite clearly early days but I think wilder sees him as his new mcgoldrick

Is it the same Cannon that took that first touch from bamford fired into him

Just maybe you should back him and he will come good

If he carries on for the rest of the season with what he showed yesterday my opinion of him will change to admiration and a admission I was wrong , I'd love to see him start with Ings as a front 2 and ohare in a 10 role .

Criticised Cannon a huge amount, but he does need to play in a 2 before he can be fully written off. He has proved he can't play upfront by himself or out wide.
Bamford might be the perfect partner if he keeps playing the balls like he did at the end.

And, yes, his shot was deflected, but one of my biggest annoyances is that we don't shoot enough when in decent positions so don't give ourselves a chance of that occurring normally.

I saw enough in that cameo to think the deal is worth it, but if he carries on like that we would struggle to keep him once January arrives.

I know they were dogshit, but he puts cannon clean through with one of the best passes i've seen from united this season, and he's been on the pitch 5 minutes at best.

Should have had a goal and an assist.

However, not gonna gush too much, he might get an injury in the next game and then its not worked, but competition for places up front will keep the rest on thier toes, I can see him starting against Portsmouth..

Yes that same Cannon whose second and third touch after that put it too close to the keeper and fucked the chance up. No he won’t come good. Played for nearly 46 years and managed for another few. I’m confident in my judgement.

I see your point, but to be honest, at the time, from that distance with defenders in front of him the shot was speculative and potentially wasteful. His better option was to the right. He got lucky. He is still not very good. He is not bright nor football bright. We will see.

This is where wilder excels, bringing in cheap or free players that most aren’t interested in - I think his man management skill when the lad ‘owes him one’ is a perfect fit

As much as a twat I always thought Bamford to be, I’m warming to him, the presser, performance and his general persona

Probs still a twat, but our twat so its alreight

I think we take too few shots from that distance. Still need to be aware of better options but we’ve conceded quite a few from that sort of distance where the keeper is potentially unsighted.
Don’t shoot you don’t score

Indeed, but there’s a time and a place and crucially normally someone with a recognised skill needs to be taking it on. For instance this season I wouldn’t be bellowing for Peck to shoot from anywhere except the goal line. Cannon on recent performances is not one I would back whereas Hamer Burrows Brooks I may have sympathy for.

Yet he scored…

Bamford did okay in the 30 minutes he was on the pitch.

I like 'deranged' and I can live with that, but I'm more concerened about your definition of 'normal Blades'.

Why don't you stick a poll uop and see how many 'normal Blades', have no issue at all with our Yorkshire brethren at the top of the M1?
I have every issue with Leeds fans, especially living in North Yorks, but I have no issue with an ex player of theirs provided he does well with us.

I hate Leeds as much as the next old blade. I hate wednesday more.

When someone signs for the blades, they play for us now. So they get my support.

See Alan quinn, Bobby Davison, Danny Wilson, Gary Madine, and vinny jones, just off the top of my head.

Billy sharp played for Leeds before re-signing for us. As did Brian deane.

Utter drivel.

Providing he is fit and still putting in similar performances, I can see us putting a 2 1/2 deal with option to extend on 1st January. When you look at his age and other clubs, he won’t get a move to a Premier League side, then you look at Championship sides, I doubt ‘boro would be interested as they play 1 up top and he would be in competition with an up and coming Conway, Stoke also play with 1 up top. Bristol is a distance and an upheaval.

Looking short-medium term, we are likely to lose Hamer at some point to a transfer although his recent injury might delay that to the summer. He is on £30k a week so does free up some wages, sending back the loanees that we can and replacing them with sensible ones would also do the same.

Quality debut, showed exactly what we were missing and unlucky not to bag a goal himself.
Created one key chance and unlucky not to score. Pretty much showed what we’ve been missing in about 20 minutes.

I think he could end up being a master stroke provided he remains fit. We have plenty of younger players. We can accommodate the odd experienced one in the right spot.

His career stats,

111 goals in 357 senior slub appearances. isn't that impressive for a striker.

BTW, he gets marked down IMHO for being DirtyLeeds scum. If you don't get that, you weren't there in the 80s and 90s.
Are you sure it isn’t?

Take into account the actual minutes and he averages a goal every 191 minutes and a huge percentage of those games is in the top two divisions with a fair chunk being top flight. He also averages an assist for every 2.5 goals he scores.

If we can get him remotely near his average we’ll have played a blinder.

We have more entries into the box than anyone bar Coventry. We have more corners than anyone. We’ve been crying out for someone like him to make us complete.

80’s and 90’s ?

I think you’ll find that Leeds earned the title Dirty in their time under manager Don Revie which was between 1961 and 1974 and rightly so .

Even though they had some of the best players in the country at the time including the likes of Eddie Gray , Johnny Giles , Allan Clarke , Mick Jones etc. they often resorted to to some of the worst football thuggery and referee intimidation I ever witnessed .

One of my favourite non Blades related matches of all time was the 1970 FA Cup Final replay when Chelsea matched them toe to toe in the thuggery department and came out on top . For those who’ve never seen it , it’s well worth a look on You Tube .

I thought he did very well when he came on, albeit against a piss poor pig side.
Dropped a bit deeper into some nice pockets of space to receive the ball and create a link between the midfield and attackers with some good link up play.
Sent Cannon through with a great ball that he could/should have done better with but i'm not going to criticise Cannon as he was making some good runs for the ball and made up for his miss with a good goal.
Almost got on the scoresheet himself with the improvised flick after the ball was played behind him.
Looked fit, comfortable and keen to get involved. Regular performances like that and I will be more than happy.

Gives us different options up top which is very much welcome.

Billy Sharp scored 129 in 377 for us that is also not that impressive but people still refer to him as a legend

IIRC, a modern ref reviewd the footage recently and saw something like 9 red cards.

It was a briliant match for the neutral who enjoys a bit of fisticuffs.
