Well last year, we didnt have all the play-off period to secure new players and that screwed us up.... didnt it?

Good to see we're not going to be ready for the start of pre-season.
Set of absolute clowns.
Nearly a month gone, fixtures out in less than three weeks and we can't even nail down the signature of a freebie from Barnsley.

Most of the delay is down to greedy agents and players seeing what the best deals they can get from clubs. Most clubs are having to watch what they spend and it's no different with United.

Sadly, I imagine that was said pretty much word for word last summer. And it was bollocks.

Have I missed the mass movement of players elsewhere in our division?

So come on len. Give us a run down of what you think should be done in the situation we are in. ;)

No movement and there never is at this time of the year but always the same old negativity. yes we need players and I am sure that they will come but don't let this confuse the more simple minded.

Well this time we've tied Morgan down, in advanced talks with Bogdanovic and we were in talks with Williams.

Since we realised we weren't making the play-offs last season, all the noises from the Club suggested it was because we were in the play-offs and it meant we couldn't do any deals before they had finished. Now, I'm not saying I'm getting worried about the lack of movement, but I can understand why people would be concerned after saying it would be much different this time round.

The most concerning thing for me is that potentially three players have already turned us down (Williams, Mackie, Ward) with Bogdanovic possibly doing the same.

I wunder why the Blades find it hard to attract the reight kind of players to BDTBL ?

As Tizer says, I've also obviously missed the mass of signings in the CCC. Of course the fact that most football contracts haven't expired yet has nothing to do with anything that has or hasn't happened. The fact that what is said is that the play-off puts teams 2 weeks behind everyone else meaning any signings are delayed by two weeks, rather than missing out on signings made now, means nowt.

And that makes it all OK does it? No one else has made a move yet so SUFC being SUFC couldn't take the radical step of being first? We couldn't show some ambition and try to pick up the better players early rather than being left with the scrubbers at the bottom of the pile? Who knows, if we look like we mean it, we may even attract a few players because we may look a tad progressive.

But no, let's be patient, let's not say anything bad about the club because they sure do know what they're doing. My oh my some of you are easily pleased, you'd sit there and let the club shit on you rather than rock the boat. You deserve what you get, f**k all, so keep clapping, but ffs don't start whining when next season turns out to be an even bigger crock of shit than the last one.

:gallop:

Exactly.

I know signings dont start really being made til June BUT like you say it would seem players are turning us down already.

True there has not been massive movement of players at any other clubs yet but I hope we are not left behind like last season.

At very worst I hope we can atleast afford some new fitness staff to hopefully stop another injury crisis with the few players we actually have.

Nothing wrong with patience. In 5/10/15/whenever he thinks he can get away with it years time. We'll be great. Honest. Just be patient Blades, think of your Grandkids. They will be only decades away from our policies realising.

Can we not just stop expecting/hoping? Lets just watch football week by week. Historically, we're about the 30th best team in the country so lets stop pretending anything will ever change.

Exactly, chillout, plenty of time to bid £2m for Tommy Smith, £500,000 for McIndoe etc and then get them loanings in.

Patience needed ? ............ Well i started being when John Harris was at BDTBL..................... any idea how much longer ?

BECAUSE.blackwells crap, and he couldnt attract a skillful fly to land on him if he were a pile of fresh shite.BECAUSE.kevin mccabe has STILL not been into thornberry to have his CHEQUEBOOK removel operation from the inner depths of his anus.

Notice how supremo TB mentions 5 players we're in talks with and yet not one of them is Paddy!

Strangely enough, this mornings rags are now mentioning our interest in Simmonsen

However, to counter that, BM poster knows Paddy and has been out socially with him and says that Paddy said how can he leave the Blades after all they've done for me? Well we all know money talks, but at least I find that encouraging. Wonder if the board feel the same way? Simmonsen to replace Paddy and £900k in the bank? Small matter of wages, but if Simmonsen is serious about wanting to play games.................................well you never know?

I will be gutted tho if Paddy does leave. Equally, witnessing the potential systematic dismantling of the squad, particularly when we don't have a squad, is really disheartening.

Anyone laying odds on Monty? Rumours are he's turned down a third and final offer

Fingers crossed!

Thing is pal, would you blame him if he went?I for one am not a huge monty fan,but do realise that he inparticular,is now a key member to a ghost ship of a team.So to hear that utd cannot tie him down is soul destroying.TIGHT TWATS.board out.

I thought the statement from the Lane was about what you'd expect to hear in late May - and the posts on here to be unfair at this time (They'd be fairer in late June)

How can people get wound up about common sense statements such as -
"(we) are aware and realistic that some players won't declare their hands until they have looked at all their options"
and -
"continuing negotiations with those whose Lane contracts are about to expire"
or -
"there are plenty of discussions going on behind the scenes"

All of this seems just what you'd expect.
The club is holding talks with targetted players, who may well be talking to other clubs too - and who will make a decision for themselves after they've considered all their options. In the meantime the club are working to secure contracts for those (soon to be) out of contract players at the Lane who we haven't released.

What more (in the real world) would you expect them to say? Maybe -
"We've already signed all our targetted players by offering far more money that any other club (and lets look forward to adminstration and ten points deducted next season)"
or -
Let's give you a blow by blow account of each of the discussions we're having (so every other club knows where we're at - and is therefore better positioned to sign our targetted players)

You lot need to either get yourselves on the board if you really feel you have to know more - or more realistically, just relax - let events run their course, and enjoy the summer.

It's not what I would have expected them to say, more what I would have expected them to do!

Some of these players such as Monty, coming to the end of their contracts could have and should have been renegotiated months ago and not waiting whilst arguably could be deemed "too late"

They have left the door open for anyone and everyone to step in and take our players. Paddy's deal could have and should have been sorted as well as Monty's months ago imho. I don't buy all this "we've taken out the option of invoking the 12 month extension on their contracts" All that has done is delay the inevitable for a few months. We are in exactly the same boat as we were when they did that, only now there are even more players contracts coming to the end of their term. Wardy for one now only has a year left too. I suspect others too.

Hindsight we all know is a wonderful thing! Foresight however, is even more wonderful!

The club have shot themselves in the foot and they only have themselves to blame. Unfortunately, we the fans will suffer the most!

I hope he has - start the car. Can't believe we are trying so hard to keep him.

"How I learned to stop worrying and love the Blades".

Yeeha! :)

Life is a lttle boring at this time of year as even the media are being extra creative. Many of the stories are just linking us with an ex-blade player - yes they were aware, took a look and said no for the same reason he was released in the first place (money, performance etc.) - not completely made up, but no substance. The other rumours come from knowing we are looking for a fullback - so we get linked with every shining light that becomes available - again yes we looked, he's on the long list of possibles, but may not be on the short list - yet there we go losing another player. When we hit pre-season then it will get real as agents and players start to make choices. The only player we know that was on the short list, cause he said so, was Boggy. Even so we don't know how critical this was to any plans. So we make it up and have fun, curse the managment for the bad (imaginary) decisions and demonstrate our wisdom by the choices we would've made. At least it fills the void till the World Cup. Myself, I can't wait for Linz's pics and commentaries on the preseason games. Kinda draws me back into the season and excitement. Post on one and all. UTB!

I really think expecting more out of BDTBL at this time is unreasonable - and IMO the majority of posts on this thread seem to show frustration more than a balanced view.

And if people want to get frustrated - then fine, it's a free world - but it seems a bit daft IMO wasting that frustration on things you/we have little influence over.

On a more concerning note - I look at many clubs where the fans expectations have out-stripped the club's reality, and this has led to years of instability (changes of management in particular) and under-performance. Wednesday, Forest, Leeds, Coventry all spring to mind as clubs where this has happened - and reading many of the posts I worry that we're well along the same road. It's all good and well banging on about ambition, when it's some other buggers money you want to be ambitious with!
