So according to Darren we are 24th in England - Play-Offs in the Championship. That seems about right and we're generally punching at about our weight. If you want to hark back to the "Glory Days" of Fatty Foulkes and Nudger Needham, then we'll surely be higher - but that has even less relevance than Forest banging on about their European Cup wins, Coventry their FA Cup etc etc, so if Lenners is banging on about the under-achievement of 85 years without a trophy, that has to be hope over expectation as Foxy says. Or to put it another way - to expect automatic promotion or Premiership status, or silverware is an unreasonable expectation - even though it's a hope all of us share.

Dreams, hopes, expectations, demands - people need to be very clear about where they stand, especially when basing their stance on limited insights, and when the potential of unrealistic expectation is turning our club into the next Leeds, Wednesday or Forest.

It has worried me for most of this season (just gone) that the general tone of our Forum has been of frustration taking the form of expectations. It's certainly possible for Forums (not just ours) to build up a critical mass of opinion that changes the way many of us view and feel about the Blades, and may even change the Club's decisions. In some cases that is all to the good - such as Robson - but in more complex times like this (IMO made more complicated by the financial situation throughout football - and in KMcC's case, property and construction - the injury situation, even Paddy's cough etc) and the fact that most of us never get to see the full picture - IMO some of us need to be more measured and thoughtful in how we show our frustration.

This isn't to say that the Club are above criticism - and there have been some well made points by various "knockers" over the last months - but there's been a lot a dross too. As Lenners has said on numerous occassions - "this is a forum which is about debate" - and IMO too many "knockers" have failed to contribute thoughtful "debate" - their posts being more like vitriolic rants.

Too much uninformed ranting -> unrealistic expectations -> instability -> failure - - and we'd be partly to blame.

I'm sure you've been called worse, Len. So are you going to DO anything as Nick asks? Are you? You could start by answering his question. YES or NO??

If I can win the lottery, I'll sort it all out.
But I trust we aren't suggesting that criticism of the club is not allowed? We aren't going all Lee Strafford over here, are we?

Now't wrong with criticism Len but a little praise wouldn't go amiss at times mi old son.

I always praise when praise is due.
Though I tend to find it ends in my fingers being burnt.
I definitely thought Harper was a good signing and said so.
I think I also made the mistake of being overly optimistic after we beat Spurs towards the end of the Prem season.
Never again, never again.

No

No.

Do you see what I did there, Len? I gave two direct answers to two direct questions. I hope that hasn't confused you.

.

I tend to feel that we are about where SUFC can achieve at the moment, in or around the play offs and the occasional excursion to the top league.

My problem is the method of play used, it's basically shit football.

So I didn't get a straight answer then. You are another McCabe, Leonard!

Nobody is suggesting that we "go all Lee Strafford", quite the opposite. What I am suggesting is that if the club is as badly run as you say ad nauseum, that you do something about it. You see Len, there are 2 sorts of people. Those who watch from the sidelines & simply criticise. They are pretty pointless, and certainly not the sort of people you want around you when the going gets tough. Then there are the people who stand up to the mark, roll their sleeves up, and actually DO SOMETHING constructive. And if you aren't prepared to do that, it renders any comment you make pretty redundant.

I think it is pretty clear which camp you fall into. Shame, because you clearly aren't stupid, but there really is very little point to you.

The ball's in your court, fella. I think there probably is a need for a BIFA style supporters movement just at the moment. Are you prepared to back up all your talk by pulling it all together? Or are you happy to continue with the safe, easy route you have chosen? Come on Len, grow a pair, man! Go for it! You would feel much better about yourself!

I suspect that plenty of folk on here can't play football as well as McMonty but it wouldn't stop them criticising his performance. I wouldn't expect them to ring up United and demand a trial.
Forums help amplify fans feelings, nowt more, nowt less.

I suspect there are plenty on here, and other forums not necessarily football related who can play football better than Monty. Doesn't stop them thinking he's shit either ;)

So why haven't they been signed up ?
The football scouting network must be pretty shit if there are "plenty" out there who have been missed ... or did they all turn down the chance of a football career ?
All these "better" footballers would not be able to keep hold of the ball if Monty was on the same pitch.

.

But there are plenty out there who have been missed, much the same as there's plenty of shit playing professional football. Let's not forget that the Talentless One was courted as a youngster by being in the right place at the right time. He was given chances that better players could only dream about, and percevered with due to a succession of awful managers and coaches passing through the corridors at Bramall Lane. No one else wanted him over the years, that says it all.

Let's be honest, Monty can't play football, but for people like you he's like an old pair of trainers. The tread's gone so doesn't stop you slipping about anymore, they let the wet in, they don't look good but you're comfy with them. Much the same as your beloved Monty. He still can't control the ball, he can't read the game, he can't pass or shoot and he gets in the way of our better players but no matter, you're comfortable with him so have accepted all those flaws, choose to ignore them and now try to make a case for him because it just wouldn't seem right to discard him, because he's that loveable footballing retard who runs around a lot like a good old boy :easy::rolleyes:

Somehow I can't see us reaching concensus on this one.

It says it all about your willingness to have an open mind on him, as he's had a number of potential suitors from the top two divisions. Unless of course, me, his agent, the club, him and other clubs are all lying to you?

Just because you've decided he is "shit", doesn't mean the professionals and other managers (who many have mentioned wanting over our own) share your opinion.

I 've seen his trainers........:thumbdown::thumbdown::thumbdown:

But then again I've seen yours....:shakehead::shakehead::shakehead::gallop:

Yep, it's a good job we don't sell any of our better players or he'd have been long gone.

Still got some Sun but's it's up to £600 now.

How could you all be lying, you've never said anything. All you've done is inferred, you've had no proof, you've had no facts, you've merely intimated that "Bolton would have signed him if he hadn't been injured" and padded that out with little of substance apart from dropping a few other red herrings shrouded in mist along the way.

You're just a poster on a message board so why should I believe you? As to the rest of the group you include yourself in well again, separating fact from fiction from that illustrious bunch would take someone with and IQ of Stephen Hawking.

Whether they're/you're lying matters not, I take it all as bullshit unless I see proof that it isn't.

No club has ever lodged a firm bid to sign him.

They may of been a few clubs send a scout out to have a look and perhaps we should give his agent the credit for creating a few rumours that clubs were looking at him. Transfer listed twice with no takers let us not forget.

Mart is right he is like the old pair of trainers you cant be bothered to get rid of and you cant give away to charity because they wouldnt take them.
