Fuck me what a shambles that is.

Now admittedly we arrived at the stadium at about 19:50...couldn't set off until a plumber had been to my dad's house but then made excellent time down the M1 and found the stadium very easily. That is where the nightmare started.

We asked the youth at the club car park entrance, who told us that you have to pre-book a spot in there. OK fair enough mate, so where do you recommend we could park? "Erm, I dunno really. Just sort of have a look round." Hmm, cheers mate.

Then drove round for 10 mins, spotting several HUGE car parks with tons of space in them...all completely deserted and with entrance barriers closed! Surely you could spare one of the army of stewards that were lurking on street corners to man the booths and make a bit of extra cash from late-arriving away fans?

Next asked another youth in a LCFC hi-vis vest on a street if he knew of anywhere we could park. His response was a simple "Anywhere you can mate, all the parking is gone now (it clearly wasn't, in the closed carparks at least)."

Finally pulled up next to the stadium and asked a very friendly copper if he had any suggestions. Finally someone gave us some useful advice, and we eventually found a space in a pay and display place next to a Morrisons. Having arrived at the stadium only 5 mins after kickoff, we eventually got through the turnstiles on the stroke of half time.

Sort it out Leicester. At least educate your "stewards" on where people may park, but ideally keep your carparks open during the match.

Sorry to hear this. Yes the ground staff can be a bit clueless at times! Was the Morrisons car park already full? You can usually get matchday parking in there.
If you go to Leicester again, Park up on Kingsley St/Oakland Rd/Knighton Fields Rd (or sidestreets off there)/Victoria Park Road - all free parking, then 10/15 minutes walk.

The local constabulary had obviously contacted South Yorkshire police and borrowed their nationally renowned book on how to control large crowds!. I don't think the local plod read past the first page though. I got in 10 minutes after kickoff.

Yesterday stewards at Bramall Lane were preventing fans going on the coaches from parking at Bramall Lane. All because of the Tony Currie dinner! A Blades match takes priority!

Morrisons had loads of space, but having recently got a (completely unfair) parking ticket near the lane during the Bolton match, I was wary of the "3 hours max and only while shopping here" sign, and opted to pay the £2 for a couple of hours in the pay and display overspill bit of it. Given the amount of cars coming out of Morrisons post-match in hindsight I'd have chanced it, but at the time £2 seemed better than the potential for another ticket!

You did well for £2. I parked in the Morrisons (a few years back) and the bloke asked me "Matchday parking?" I said yes and it was £5. I imagine it costs more than that now.

£2 for 2 hours on the machine. Given it was pretty much HT by this point, we reasoned we'd be back at the car by 22:25.

We ended up parking at the Egg-Chasers ground.. £10!! But Lady HB found £5 on the ground as we walked back to car (it's already spent, if anyone tries to claim it) so that made it more palatable.

Yes but...

You don’t have to pay those tickets, you do realise?

Parking on private land like Morrison’s, Waitrose, or Meadowhall even, is not enforceable (unless they can prove you damaged their business by parking there).

Unless a parking ticket is issued by a local authority, like the police or council, on public highways, it has no legal enforcement. (Except as I mentioned).

You will get lots of letters threatening action. Ignore them. It’s a test of nerve. Most people give in and pay the fine. You don’t have to.

That’s all!

Sorry but as has been pointed on here before, that is no longer true or a sensible response. Some Private Parking Cos do take people to court and win. Your best bet is to use a site like PePiPoo.com to see what the experts say.

Ditto to what one or two have already suggested park in a Morrisons, Asda, whatever car park. Step son always does, he's had plenty of letters but just ignores them, he's in the forces and currently in Cyprus, so he doesn't give a flying one about it anyway (apparently living on base the company issuing the fines struggle to track them down).
