Out of Contract Players

Least we've got a definite 11 to put out next season.. 😆

Grbic

Anel Robinson Trusty

Slimane Davies Souza Hamer Brooks

Brewster Osula

Harsh on Baldock, missed some this and last season, but prior to that he barely missed a game in 3 years. Maybe it's she that's increasing the frequency, but his a availability has largely excellent.
Maybe so but we can't afford to be in the championship and have players in the later stage of their careers, on big money and not available for half a season.

Letting a lot of these go, particularly the old guard, will free up a lot of wages and help any financial woes we'll face from being relegated.

Don't expect too many decent replacements as the Prince will wing it on cheap freebies, cheap lower league or foreign signings and Premier League loans.

I'll be surprised if we finish mid table next season let alone promotion, with or without the old guard.

The only one I'm desperate to get signed is Arblaster. From the bits I've seen of him in the backup squad and obviously his stint at Port Vale, we've got a potentially very solid prem level player here. All the rest............... well I'm not that bothered either way. I'd love to keep Oli Mac - I like him and his personality is infectious, you can see that with his presence behind the scenes. However, such a pity, but his injury record speaks for itself. I doubt he is ever fully fit even when playing. So for me, if he wants big bucks to stay then id let him leave.

I would like us to keep
Arblaster
Jebbo ( if nothing else other than I think he will eventually be sold for a reasonable fee )
Bogle
Egan ( satisfactory in championship )
RND
mcburnie ( on a reduced salary with pay as you play bonus )

interesting that Wilder said he expected Arblaster and Jebbo to sign but that the club were working on only 2 or 3 contracts for more established players. Hopefully, RND is one of them.

Assuming little money, at minimum:

Grbic
(New/Youth)

Baldock Egan Robinson RND
(Bogle/Curtis) (New) (Trusty) (Lowe/Boyes)

Hamer Souza Brooks
(Davies) (Arblaster) (New)

(New) McBurnie Osula
(Bogle/Slimane) (Jebbison) (Traore)
(Brewster)

Squad of around 26 players.

One additional perm Keeper
One new quality perm Centre Back.
One quality loan Midfielder.
One quality loan McAtee replacement.

I’d develop Osula cutting in from the left with perhaps Traore fitting in here as back up or have an no 10 also allowing Osula to be an option down the centre.

Opportunity for Bogle or Slimane to get in there but also prioritising a Gibbs-White/McAtee type. If Slimane can’t make it then perhaps Sorba Thomas in his place.

That’s modest recruitment but it is an experienced and hardened backline. I like the look of the current midfield though it needs depth. Some options for youthfulness and pace up front.

Evaluate whether Lowe can be eclipsed by Boyes/Buyabu.

Get rid of the old lads now on big wages and those surplus - Wes, Davies, Basham, Osborn, Fleck, Norwood, Coulibaly

Lose the loans (sadly in two cases) - Brereton-Diaz, McAtee, Larouci

Balance the books - Archer, Ahmedhodzic.

Said the same mate … we got out of the championship last time with a talented midfield ( McAtee , Doyle & Berge ) and magician in Ndaiye . Can’t knock Souza & Hamers effort but they are both too defensively minded and that’s one of the reasons we’ve lacked creativity this season & next season McAtee the only remaining one will have gone also .
As for replacing someone of Ndiayes talent that would require the owner to put his short arms in his even deeper pockets & that’s just not gonna happen 👍⚔️

I'm not sure I'd describe Hamer as defensively minded. He's also a brilliant Championship midfielder.

We will need recruits though.

But when we beat Palace tonight and go on a stunning run we'll be looking at Premier League players in the summer anyway 👀😄❤️🤍

I'd love to know who is on a free or cheaper than mcburnie with wages and a fee included who could go on a run like he did last year.

The vague hand wave of some new guy is always a massive gamble compared to what we actually know and can work with

Agreed. Injury record is a real shame, but he's a top Champ striker when fully fit.
I'd guess we're offering him reduced wages and thrashing out a deal from there.

I think Widler will look to keep the core and bring the youth through, adding where required:

Grbic-Amissah-New?

Baldock-Curtis-Trusty-Robinson-Egan-Lowe-RND-New?-Seriki

Hamer-Bogle-Brooks-Arblaster-Brewster-Norwood-Souza-Slimane-Davies-Osborn (I'd get rid of Norwood/Osborn/Slimane)

Osula-Mcburnie-Jebbo-Hackford-New?

Whos missing?

Difficult ones for me are Baldock and McBurnie. Baldock our only Prem class player imo and still a strong driving force and a leader on the pitch, we will need that with a virtually new and much younger squad next season. Question is as much Bogles future, if he has turned a corner with his fitness, younger, higher ceiling in the market, plus I understand we have an option on his contract, where a new contract for Baldock would be a big investment for a 30+ player, especially as he may have good offers from elsewhere. McBurnie I've never been a fan, but while his fitness and discipline are still as poor, he has improved with experience and we could be letting a 15 goal champ player go, possibly to a rival and again a player Wilder likes in the dressing room. I think a lot depends if it is all or bust on promotion again next year, or the club are prepared to allow space for a younger squad to develop.and accepts this may come with some inconsistency in the league.
