Our problem is that concede 60-75% possession every game because our players aren't good enough to keep the ball when we have it.
It's not the system that's wrong because what ever system we played the result would be the same.
You can't set the tempo of any game, in any system, if you keep giving the ball to the opposition, and you can't compete for 90 minutes if you're forever chasing the ball and trying to get it back. Eventually you're always going to crack and concede a goal.
It amused me before the game when SKY showed a stat to say that we were working harder, in terms of yards covered, this season than we did last year when the reason is obvious. We can't get the bloody ball to play with it, and when we do we kick it straight back to the opposition.
The bottom line is that no matter what system we play the players we have aren't good enough and that's not aimed as a criticism, it is what it is.
I don't think that there is anyone not giving it their all but we just don't have the budget to buy players with the quality we need. Again, that's not a criticism of anyone it's just a fact of life.
If this had happened to us last season then nobody would have been surprised but because we performed so well pre covid expectations have been raised beyond the sensible.
After today I don't see a way back for us this season but I'm already looking forward to August and the prospect of 3.00pm Saturday kick offs and to quote
raul the football being a two hour break in the day's drinking.
