LONG, COLLINS, DOYLE, PORTER

This isn't criticism in reaction to todays performance, I wasn't there, but I look at those players and none of them inspire confidence, reliability, leadership (by example) or dare I say ability.

Long; A talented shotstopper and his age gaves him the benefit of the doubt on his ability, but if ever a player needs a break (like Joe Hart recently) from first team responsibilities it is him. He doesn't give his defenders any confidence when their back is to goal. We need to get rid of Howard and get some adequate experience that can give Long a rest.

Collins; Decent at this level, but I don't see someone with his experience providing the leadership you'd expect. I'd keep him around but only if we have acquire stronger characters to lead ahead of him.

Doyle; I know there is a bit of man love for him at the moment after last week but for me it changes nothing, he is a squad player at best and certainly not a captain. Similar to Collins in that we've depended on people like him for years and look where it has gotten us.

Porter; In 2 years he hasn't cut it with us, he didn't cut it at Shrewsbury and even worse he didn't cut it at a high flying. L2 Chesterfield side where a striker they signed from Worksop Town scored for them today, something he failed to do.

The standard we've come to expect is still biting us in the arse and my worry is we are depending so much on these players to see us out of a relegation scrap.

funny how the same players that beat villa cant put in some graft to get a result at notts county. once they step over the chalk its down to their own pride in getting a result.

One thing I noticed about Doyle today was that he was looking decent, going for tackles and putting himself about, until their big lad Showomni put the fear of god into him during the first half, when he near enough had him in a headlock. After that he went missing.

I noticed that, the linesman did as must have the ref but nothing was done by the officals. We need a Booker/Derry/Trusson type in centre midfield in games like that and we probably need a Short/Stancliffe/Holdsworth type at the back. I think Paynter will be an upgrade on Porter (touch wood)

It shows the weakness of mind of the players. A lot have played at a higher level and slipped downwards. I don't think it's unreasonable to speculate that much of the reason for that is their lack of commitment, focus and responsibility. Or in one word, professionalism.

This is why I don't think the team can really improve without wholesale changes. Less talented squads do better than ours, and that's not acceptable.

Like a jellyfish without a sting.

Round like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending on beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain
Or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that's turning
Running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

We are like a cock without a blood supply

What if give to have Stuart McCall and Michael Brown of eleven seasons ago

Exactly! Over the last 10 years we have had leaders that have brought success and avoided capitulation; Kenny, Morgan, Jagielka, Monty, McCall, Speed, Beattie.

If we get relegated I sincerely hope that we stick with Clough and he reviews the leadership that these experienced 'professionals' are providing him. How much left on the deck do we have to clear!?!

Kenny is not the keeper I remember anymore judging him on yesterdays performance.

He used to command his box a lot better and demand more from his defence.

What's he that wishes so? My cousin lawlessdan?
No, my fair cous, if we are marked to fail, we are enough to do our club loss;
And if to survive, the fewer men who can actually trap a ball, pass and shoot accurately,
The greater share of honour.

I've been saying it for a while, we have gone soft as shite.
I'm not advocating indiscriminate "thuggishness" a la VJ; but we definitely need a few players that can put themselves about and have a "presence" on the pitch.
Someone like Booker, Bradders, Kamara, Billy Tightshirt.

Doyle's not the man for the job, it would be like being mauled by a dead sheep.....
I imagine.
