Our midfield

I would say McAtee is growing in basic composure on the ball, it's a slow burner but he's got an assured touch.

Doyle has been everything we've been lacking, but isn't fit.

First half at Norwich is the picture of a scenario we need to guard against. We looked nowhere near any loose ball, 50/50, nowhere at all. We need legs that can cover the middle of the park, it's as simple as that for now.

Doyle's been very good but I don't think he's been everything we've been lacking, as I don't think he's great when we're out of possession. We still get overrun through the middle of the park when he plays. Blackpool at home was embarrassing.

He's good on the ball and a live wire, but I think he belongs higher up the pitch. We need a physical, athletic presence at the base of midfield to screen the middle of the park, break up play and to shut the gate when others around advance in numbers.

Whatever division were in next season, the midfield needs addressing
Yep. They say you learn more from your defeats, well that showed we aren’t strong enough in midfield. Maybe going toe to toe was the wrong tactic this time but it was a game we could afford to lose. Final score could easily have been 6-4 a la Burnley.
Was a good game. Can’t say the Blades aren’t worth watching, we’ve had some crackers this season.

Thats probably the worst game Norwood has ever had for us. It just shows how integral he is to us.

When he has a bad game we’re relying on Berge to stick a foot in (FUCKING HAHA) or McAtee who tbf was our best player tonight but what can he do when he’s playing next to the fucking chuckle brothers

McAtee was our best player??!

Norwood had an off night, McAtee let his head go down after a couple of mistakes early 2nd half, and Sander hid. It was bloody screaming out for Coulibaly at half time to shore it up and bring some energy wasn't it??

No crisis, but you can't play them 3 together in midfield.

Can we not agree on a scapegoat anymore? Is it Norwood, Berge or McAtee? Can I nominate Bogle?

Doyle, fleck might both stick a foot in but aren't particularly powerful types who will stop games like today where we get overwhelmed at times.

Not going to come up against any other side flying like this other than Burnley.

Can't win any football game without a midfield, ours had a nightmare tonight

That second half was tripe form United

There’s no point having a midfield when the manager tells them to hoof it over there head

I'm still at a loss as to why McAtee, a left sided midfielder, was on the right and Berge, quite clearly a right sided midfielder, was on the left, for all the second half.

I'm obviously too old to understand but I'm sure there's a very good reason............................... anyone??

One of Osborn/ Couilbaly/ Doyle need to start in CM Saturday. Berge and McAtee arent central midfielders.
I hope it's not Osborn, but we all know it will be.

I can't figure Berge out. He's not an out and out defensive midfielder, he's not an out and out attacking midfielder. He's not got the pace to be a winger, he's not got the battle to be a central midfielder if we played 442. I've never been able to work out what kind of midfielder he is other than an expensive one and a waste of money overall due to his inconsistent performances. I'll be honest. I hoped we were going to sell him in January and reinvest the money to strengthen the first team. He frustrates me and I think he's massively over rated.

All of Berge's best performances have been when he's attacking down our righthand side. So I'm with you, why play him down the left.
Also he is horribly one footed, it is too easy to defend against him when he is on the wrong side of the pitch.

Far too many of our players are horribly onefooted.

He's the definition of a luxury player. He's someone that will, sometimes, produce a moment of brilliance that makes you gasp. Sadly, the rest of the time, he seems to canter around the place, waiting for something to happen that he can get involved in, as opposed to making something happen himself.

Weirdly, I think he'd look better in the PL. Seems like he needs to be reactive, rather than proactive. If he's in the midst of a good move created by other players, he'll look right at home, and do something great. He is not, sadly, the player who makes these things happen himself.

If we go up, keep him and see if he can shine at the top level. If we don't, try and cash in and get whatever we can for him. It's clear that he's not a Championship player. Whether that's because he's too good for this league, or because he's just not good enough, is up for debate.

(I'm a bit pissed, so I expect a lot of angry responses to this...I will try to reply to them in the morning)
