On the plus side, they are getting football at a decent level – albeit one where Monty, Chris Greenacre and Paul Ifill have been at times some of the league’s best players.

On the negative side, isn’t playing in freezing difficult conditions important for them to experience as part of their development?

I think if they've lived around 20 odd years in England then they'll have played in the cold from time to time. It's a good move for them. I always look back to the Ferencvaros move for Lowton and see how that did him the world of good.

Yes – the cold, brutal, uncomfortable Hungarian league. My point exactly.

Coincidentally, they played Sunday at the ground near to me. I couldn’t go but my next door but one neighbour was at the match and said Sam Graham had a great game.

I was talking more about the experience of playing overseas and in front of a decent crowd. I'm sure they won't come back any more nesh than they were before. Everyone young kid wears skins and gloves nowadays anyway.

They are in the same team as Ross McCormack and playing against players like Richie De Laet, Andy Keogh, Adam Le Fondre and Steven Taylor. All good pros and probably better than what Lowton will have come up against. I did notice that Michael O'Halloran plays in the A League and he is perhaps the worst footballer ever but I'll ignore that one!
