An exiled Swinton Blade here.

Loads of United fans in Swinton/Kilnhurst/Rawmarsh/Parkgate. Quite a lot too out in the Dearne Valley - Wath, Bolton etc.

Might have changed now, but growing up in the area, I always felt United outnumbered Wednesday. Wednesday tended to have more fans from Mexborough/Conisbrough - heading out to Donny.

Wath was heavily pigs when I was at school in the 90's, from memory there was me and another lad who were the only Blades at Wath Central. Literally all my mates were pigs, going to school after the 93' Semi-final wasn't fun. Funnily enough our next door neighbours were pig ST holders, the son and father went to the semi-final too, we got delayed coming back for whatever reason and I remember it was pissing it down and thunder lightening, they were waiting for me and my dad to get home.. nice family but not perfect.

Once I moved up to the Comp the United/Pig divide got smaller, probably more 60/40 in favour of the pigs. I do remember plenty of Blades fans who played for the same pub team my dad played for, went on a few away days with them too tbh.

Moved form Wath a good number of years ago so things may have changed, Whiston seems to be a United stronghold, though.

I’m a bit younger than you then. My time at school coincided with the Warnock era, so I think that picked a lot of new fans up. That said, being from Swinton, I don’t have a great mass of knowledge on who supports who in Wath; more anecdotal evidence, so I might be wrong, but never met any pig fans from Wath.

every blade I know live or have lived in sheffield.
2 of my brothers now live in Kiveton and some of the family in dinnington and tickhill but we started in central sheffield
I have lived in Spain but came back last week for my birthday and got fridays game in
Wednesday of course are based in owlerton which came under Ecclesfield parish council and only officially became Sheffield in 1935
So were outside the city boundary which was parkside road at the side of hillsborough park which only became sheffield in 1890 23 years after the wednesday were formed

I've never lived in Sheffield (I'm not counting university as I was a Blade for many years before I went so it had no bearing on my allegiance). My dad hasn't lived in Sheffield either and he's the one responsible for me being a Blade. His Brother in law and his BiL's dad were the ones who took him to matches and they didn't live in Sheffield either.

My father and my uncle both lifelong blades, born in Warmsworth near Doncaster. Neither ever lived in Sheffield. From my experience growing up there seemed to be more Wendy fans in Donny but as I got older, I noticed more who were Blades. I think there are those who switch especially if Donny have a "decent run".

You 'have lived in Spain' ? . Does this mean you no longer do or did you just come home for your birthday?
I 've recently moved to Lanzarote and wondered if there were any Blades living here too?

Wath will always be red and white.
More pigs towards Thurnscoe, Bolton and gold Thorpe.
Mexborough always seems to be more pigs ,however Swinton has a few blades .
However I do feel the tide is turning .

Does this mean you have stopped calling football heaven??

Wath Central ! Yes, that was my junior school 63-67 before jumping across Festival Road to the big school. (67-74) - memories also of a third bottle of milk everyday.

Even in those days, there weren't many Blades around Wath, and I was convinced I was the only one at senior school, but plenty of pigs. There was at least one Blade and he borrowed my season ticket during the 3 day week when United had to kick off at 3pm on Tuesday due to no floodlights.

Still pigs around Wath/Goldthorpe/Thurnscoe/Wombwell etc now and all seem to have a car reg ending in ..........OWL which even at my age now still gets the comment as they drive past...."piggy b@stard". Some things will never change :)

UTB

Edit: my saving grace, born in Sheffield moved to Wath in 59.

Did some research on the subject of our supporters clubs (been asked to piece a handbook type thingy together for it) and yes there has been surprisingly quite a few SUSCs in Rotherham / North Notts areas ... Aston, Swallownest, North Anston, South Anston, Dinnington, Whiston, Catcliffe, Parkgate, Thurcroft, Harthill, Swinton, Worksop, Gainsborough, Retford.

While there's been some on the north side of Sheffield the majority over the years have been in the south east / south of the city ... Eckington, Beighton, Norfolk Park, Hackenthorpe, Killamarsh, Woodhouse, Coal Aston, Mosborough, Intake, Ridgeway, Woodseats, Handsworth.
Parkgate has been a Blades Stronghold since at least the late 60’s when I was a lad. The other lot tended not to last too long or hid their colours where the sun didn’t shine. UTB

You old bugger!!! I had no idea Wath Central was open that long ago, always seemed quite new when I was there. Plenty of times I had to chase the football down the almost vertical banking right next to the playground.

Can't believe this thread has people bragging about been from Rotherham and supporting the Blades - same goes for supporting Wednesday or Leeds.

If you're from Rotherham with no obvious connections to Sheffield why support another town's team? Never made any sense to me and when I see one in Wickersley in their stripey red or blue shirt I genuinely feel embarrassed for them.

And that prat with the Blades flag on Sunday was about 4 rows in front of me. He got told by a few dozen of us to get rid of the flag. He didn't realise how close he was to getting some fist. The lad behind me was going mental but he was oblivious to it. Maybe trying to wind the piggies up but he ended up winding up every Miller that saw it.

from memory the playground was behind the school and away from festival Road - I had a case ball at the school and we played with it on that playground until a lot of it scuffed away and split at the seams!

Yeah the playground was behind the school with a huge playing field backing on to that which you could walk on (that may not have been the case in the 60's..) You could see the old pit at Manvers from the playground too. You always had to walk down along the front of the school and then around the beck to get in.

I’m from Rotherham… certainly never bragged about it.

What’s the sudden difference if you’re born in say, Catcliffe, compared with Handsworth? Does that half a mile separation prohibit you from having anything to do with the technically different town/city?

There’s nothing stopping anyone born in Sheffield, supporting Rotherham. Or is there?
