Are we ever going to get out of this damn league? I'm grateful for the investment on infrastructure but if you don't put any money in where I really matters then we'll get nowhere. I sure hope it's a release clause that's been triggered and he hasn't been forced out. Also, we better get £2m at least for him.
That's if we sell him. We better not, awful timing, terrible news for Adkins. If we play badly tomorrow I can see the atmosphere being very bad tomorrow. Maybe it'll make the board think at least.

Moves heaven and earth to keep the likes of Collins and Doyle for years on end but can't wait to get rid of Maguire, Murphy and Mcdonald.

It's why we are where we are.

Still it could be worse we could be Pompey.
Genuine question, but in what way has the club moved heaven and earth to keep Doyle and Collins?

Surely it is just that you get left with your lesser players because nobody wants them.

Selling all saleable assets is the Blades' way. We all just need to relax and resign ourselves for a few more years of mediocrity. In the meantime I'll enjoy watching the likes of Stoke, Bournemuf, Leicester and fuckin' West Ham here on NBC Premier League.

We are stuck with the likes of Collins because they realise they can't get a better offer or club that match our wages / facilities, so they will happily sit on their contract till it runs out unless we pay them up.

....can hardly blame them. That's the whole point of an employment contract isn't it?

Yeah, and then people are who think 'Collo' is a top centre half after he comes on a sub against Morecambe, helped keep a clean sheet and scores a goal, then is almost in tears whilst talking to Andy Giddings.

Some of our supporters are no better and disgust me with how quick they are to swallow all the bullshit that comes out of the clubs and players mouths.

Nothing will come close to how mad I was when we sold McDonald

I think our plan is to go where Pompey are.

100% this!

Don't forget we have billy sharp to score goals without the supply from Murphy!

True. Watching their match a couple of days ago, they seem so skint that they've had to sell their TV gantry

Start of season 2013 / 14 McDonald, 2014 /15 Maguire, 2015 /16 Murphy.
The only way they can justify selling Murphy is by using the money to bring back McDonald and Maguire

what about deane & fjortoft ?
I was too young to understand how big Dean was to the club, and although fjortoft was by far my favourite player growing up I don't think I fully understood the implications. The Macca one- you couldn't write it. Every aspect of it was done in the most painful way(short of him signing for THEM)

Regards Mcadonald.

When we tied him to a new contract he was desperate for Championship football and if we failed to gain promotion then he wanted to consider his options. He would only agree to sign a contract if we agreed to let him be sold on the cheap if we didn't gain promotion.

We were ambitious and thought we'd be promoted and we wanted to keep our best players so we agreed to the clause.

As soon as we field to gain promotion McDonald couldn't wait to leave and was able to negotiate a big pay rise with Wolves because the sale price wasn't that high.

These kind of compromise deals are what players use to signing deals.
Jagielka did something similar when he signed. We didn't plan on relegation so agreed to clause.

Wasn't it also the case we gave him a one year contract on quite good money for L1. When we didn't go up we offered him a contract for less although still pretty good for a L1 club but with a low release clause because we didn't think a championship club would come in for him and most league 1 clubs couldn't afford both the fee and his wages.

Next summer Done or Brayford? Maybe sell Sharp again as well.

We offered them new contracts!
I'm fairly sure that the new contracts were extensions, based on smaller salaries to get the current wage bill down. That was because we needed money to invest elsewhere, and we were up to the limit on FFP. It was perfectly sensible business, albeit by the previous "regime", I believe.
