cant remember his name, warnock got him in to play burnley at turf moor the poor lad had a fuckin mare ,looked like he was going to shit himself whenever they came near our box.
That's lee Baxter. I only get to about 5 games per season and that season burnley away was one of them. His performance in the first half was atrocious and if I remember he got subbed off at the break. He never appeared again. I still haven't recovered from witnessing the performance so can't imagine how he feels.

Didn't he go on to play in the champions league for one of the Scandinavian teams?

Kelly for me. Tracey was also an outstanding keeper though but a bit too prone to losing his head through emotion. Kelly was just cool, calm, and just absolute top notch.

Also liked Burridge and he was very underrated, but he struggled with crosses and corners as he wasn't the biggest fella, and he was as daft as a bucket of frog's wearing wigs.

Kelly for me.

I've seen them all since Burgin. This is a topic not worth a debate

HODGY, HODGY, HODGY! The popular song in these parts during his era stated that he was better than Yashin![/QUOTE

Eye yie ya yie Hodgy is better than Yashin .

Mick Jones is better than Eusibeo and Wednesday are in for a thrashin

Good times and brilliant song , sung by all on the Kop.

Also

Sing something simple , you simple twats .

Phil Jagielka
This sets a side issue debate going - the best outfield player in goal. Both Woodward and Jagielka were surprisingly good. Is it rose-coloured specs, or did we always win with Woody in goal? Jagielka's punch v Wigan does not count.

Whilst the best single save I ever saw was Tracey's unbelievable tip round the post at Anfield, in terms of consistently brilliant performances, there can be only one.....

1 Mcallister
2 Tracey
3 Kenny

Best performance
1 Brown at Newcastle
2 Rees v Liverpool
3 Kelly v Coventry

For me, Alan Kelly. But as others have said, Mel Rees shone briefly for us but very brightly.

Alan Kelly since I've been going to games ('97). Tracey or Kenny after that.

I enjoyed that era where Tracey and Kelly would fight for the shirt.Would love a GK top from Sheffield united this one, please.

Been going since 1978..

Toss of a coin between Alan Kelly and Simon Tracey..

With a mention for Mel Rees.. I shed a few at his passing..

A few have mentioned Paddy .. not for me.... spent too much time posing for the TV cameras... I remember him costing us a win against Everton.. all he had to do was catch the ball.. instead he tapped it over the forwards head, went too far and he brought down somebody outside the box.. they scored from the free kick.. if anybody says "look how many points he got us with his saves....."... that's his job!!!.... and I haven't forgiven him for gonna QPR after the club stood by him after his ban

In my time watching the Blades it has to be Alan Kelly shaded it for me over Simon Tracey

ps. I think I saw Mel Rees play a game or two for us but don't feel qualified to give a rating as I was very young and only saw him a couple of times.

Kelly
Tracey
Kenny

Could it be Moore going above them all in 10 year time? Who knows...

Tracey for me, very close between him and Kelly though, someone mentioned natural ability which i agree Tracey probably had more of, having said all that, best goalkeeping performance i've seen, Alan Kelly v Pigs at Wembley, maybe he was at fault for their goal (freekicks and organizing a defensive wall wasn't Kelly's strong point) but the performance from then on saved us from being on the end of a hiding.

I'd agree with Kelly, but Simon Tracey a close second for me. His first 2 seasons back in the top flight were excellent and he was a brilliant shot stopper. Kelly was the best though, also a fantastic shot stopper, and had great command of his area and rarely made mistakes.
ST for me; I even grew my hair as a teenager to look like him, that's how bad it was! I was on John St terrace west when Dane scored the first on Nov 17th and ST ran round in circles winding up the piggies behind him. Only time he ever moved quickly.
