Loughboro must have been watching a different game to me. That or scoreline journalism!?

Here's the dilemma.

Should I accept LoughboroBlade's view? He's somebody whose posts have exuded a maturity beyond his years since he was but a young lad on Viewpoints and who seems to understand the game and assesses it rationally, without ego and possibly even sober.

Or do I go with Olle? :-)

I had this debate with Ollessendro after the game before I had a bad pint of beer which damaged my sobriety. I agree more with LoughboroBlade but with qualifications.

We were solid if unspectacular. I'm firmly of the belief that you make your own luck and that we really should be pushing on for a second goal whenever we go 1-0 up but Saturday was yet another game where we sat back after scoring. We didn't create many chances but Doyle (Gallagher?) should have scored following a flowing move at 1-0 and there were a number of times where we shot from distance (Cresswell, Kitson, McMahon, Gallagher) where there may have been better options.

In terms of the team performance: the defence starred. Hill's reading of the game was excellent and in the first 20 minutes he really set the tone by nipping in and winning the ball two or three times. Maguire was solid too and handled Lisbie well all afternoon. However, for me the man of the match was Long. He might not have been called into action too much but he set the tone for a confident performance five minutes after coming on by claiming a corner which had been aimed into an area which required a decisive choice. Add to that some solid distribution and a wondersave - it doesn't matter that the free-kick had already been given - and the nervous kid who was at fault for at least two of Exeter's goals at the Lane last season really gave an indication of why he's so highly rated.

Going forward I'd say that Flynn was good - almost every time he took on the fullback he beat him easily - but Gallagher poor. I don't know whether it's a different ball or new boots but he seemed to put far too much onto his deliveries.

Finally, it's nice that Nick Blackman reads and respects my opinions.

Scuse me but didnt Olle spend several hours savouring whatever various ales he could quaff prior to the match??????
From his own post.

" I thought that we were a tad lucky today. I usually agree with Deadbat, but am perhaps slightly more clinical. From opinions on here and after discussing with Unite fans after the game yesterday, then perhaps I am being a bit harsh. I did sink 5/6 pints in the pub beforehand, so perhaps this affected my opinions."

and thats what he's admitting to ! I know whos opinion i'd go with.

I've heard nowt but positivity since Sat-di. Either you're all a bunch of clappers or:
- All that ale affected my judgement and my memory is very hazy
- I'm a negative, cynical twat
- I'm a numpty who knows nowt about the game
- All of the above

:D

Well the viewpoint depends on how you look at things
We have many saying we wont do it wiothout Ched
Last season we went to Orient were winning 1-0 Ched came on after 55 minutes they go down to 10 men and we only got a point
So this sides done better
We are a point better off after 11 games than we were last season
We are 3 places higher
We are unbeaten

So why oh why is there still sooo much negativity
It baffles me at times how some of our fans cant be positive , not singing dancing in the streets , just not so feckin miserable day in day out, just that little bit optimistic , just as a change
If we were where Portsmouth or Coventry are now , yes , theres heavy dark clouds there , but we do have some blue sky ahead
Football fortunes change , 15 years ago Man City were where we are now
We probably wont get a billionaire , but we could be back in the full sunlight of the prem

Ive seen us with Curries and Woodward and with Wiggan and De goey, so know only too well things change

We are also only -0.83 of a point down on the same games last season.

And we won`t, IMO, need 90 to go up this year...

Made that exact point when I left the ground. Last season's game:

- we passed the ball poorly, and barely looked the better side
- our goal was a complete and utter mess
- our keeper dropped a right clanger to cost us the points

Improvements on all three counts on Saturday.

simmo cost us the game last year.. just not having him in the side anymore won us the game

Reactions: God
How do we come to be less than a full point worse off?

Due to averaging the points gained at home against the three teams that went up, and the 4 that went down.

We averaged 2.5 ppg at home against the teams that went down, and got 3 against Shrewsbury hence we are 0.5 points up

We averaged 0.33ppg at home against the three promoted teams, and got a point against Donny hence we are +0.67 against that average

So in total 1.17 points up

But we dropped 2 points against Bury and Notts County, and gained 2 points against Orient, so -2.00 overall

1.17 - 2 = -0.83

If only there was something more reliable like a Creepometer.

Dear Balham Blade,

I do indeed. So do the rest of lads. We were wondering if you could let us have advance notice if any of us are on the clock on Saturday? It really did the trick for me, as you know.

Thank you in anticipation,

Nick
